Death Will Never Conquer

Featured Replies

I like Will's version of the song better since it is the first time we have heard Will sing lead on anything that Coldplay has done or have seen Will play guitar. Will has a great voice and I wish that we could hear more of him on lead besides him singing backup on drums or on piano and that can go for Guy and Jonny as well as we would like to see what they sound like singing lead on a song.

Plus, my avatar says it all.

While I am a first time poster, but not a first time reader of this site, and based on what happened to the person who uttered the words above I'm a little scared to say anything, but I do have a similar opinion about this new 'free' song.

Let me preface this with stating my devoted allegiance towards one of the greatest bands of my lifetime. I have traveled "O'er Hill & Dale" to see these guys in some of the coolest venues and CP is one of my top live bands I've seen. (Radiohead being top, which Chris, Johnny, Will & Guy would probably agree with)

"but"

This song was a huge disappointment for me. I just don't get it. I tried to read to better understand if there is something behind the song I'm missing, but the only thing I could come away with is maybe it's a really cool live song they've been doing that just didn't quite translate with to someone who hasn't seen them perform it live.

Viva was rough to me at first, as a whole, but I always will give them the benefit of the doubt and listen a hundred times and I definitely came around on Viva and listen all the time now, but this song hurts my ears. :-(

And please don't hate on me for voicing my opinion. I just am hoping someone can fill me in on any meaning behind the song? Some sort of story that makes it better?

I'll hang up and listen. Thanks for the cool fan site. I enjoy reading and finding new stuff about my fav band. Please don't hate me... just a concerned die hard fan.

It's supposed to be folky.

It's this album's Johnny Cash tribute isn't it ;) And it's great, especially with Will singing and the clapping.

^ um its really more like the pogue's "if i should fall from grace with god" or some kinda bob dylan song rather than a johnny cash tribute. the goldrush is prob their j.c. trib song

Ive always thought of it as an homage to old spiritual... Like an early Irish folk song. Its inspirational and its positive message makes for effective live entertainment. Especially with Will on lead vocals.

^ exactly

I liked it. I probably wouldn't like an album full of those types of songs, but as people mentioned above its just a little free give away, so I'm enjoying it.
