Q. Wise Oracle, why does the Roadie book say "If you want to show off your dance moves, make sure Chris Martin's dad's watching."? What does Matt (the author) mean by that?

The Oracle replies:

I mentioned this in relation to another question about the dancing roadie - Wayne - but you must have missed it.

  • I can't give you the reasonings on why things changed, but I can give you an update from what I observed. The Oracle was run by Debs Wild. Debs is still with the band and helps out fans, for exam

Q. Dear Oracle, time ago, I read in Wikipedia that the name of Coldplay came from a poem. I been trying to find it but I'm not sure if it's right can you give me an answer please. I will be very pleased if you can tell me what poem is or if it's real or not... anyway thanks! I just love Coldplay and its music it is pure poetry.

The Oracle replies:

It's not one single poem; it's a collection of poetry called Child's Reflections, Cold Play written by Philip Horky. There really should be more copies pressed up due to its increased popularity since the band took the name but at the moment if you can find a copy it's actually [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Childs-Reflections-Cold-Philip-Horky/dp/1861062044]expensive[/ame] to buy.

Here's some good Will-doesn't-look-like-he's-about-to-knife-someone photos:

Aww, no he doesn't! In the first one he looks very coy/flirty, and in the second one he looks like he's about to turn into Cornholio from the coffee.

Q. Dear Oracle,

Knowing that Will celebrated his last two birthdays in Toronto, do you think he's gonna try and keep up that little "tradition" and come back there again this year?

Cheers

The Oracle replies:

It's not really been a tradition but more of a coincidence through touring. As you know they aren't currently on tour so there's no reason to be in Toronto (other than one of tradition if it were so).

As far as I know Will travels back to the UK in time for his birthday so is probably spending it at home with the family.

Q. Hi, Oracle. Nice to meet you. :)

I love stars so much, it has a special meaning in my life. That's why Yellow is one of my favorites songs.

My ex-boyfriend - now friend - knows that. I think he's with someone else right now but days ago he wrote in his facebook profile: "Look how they shine for you..."

What's going on in here?

He dedicated my favorite song to someone else? Or He still thinking of me? :O

The Oracle replies:

Oh no, you're not Daniel's ex are you??

Don't try to work out what he's thinking; seriously it's a waste of your time and energy... Maybe being friends with him is not that good for you?

Q. When you look up at the big, black sky at night, what is the first constellation you look for?

The Oracle replies:

Hmmm well I am not going with your theory of the sky at night being black but always without exception The Plough.

Q. I have a question about leftrightleftrightleft disc. Is there a chance to buy it somewhere? My mother was at their concert and got it but now it has been stolen and I want to try to get back to the disc, so there is no chance that they can buy it and not download it?

The Oracle replies:

I'm afraid not. The only place it was available as a physical copy was at the live concerts. If you go to our homepage and click on the butterfly icon underneath my Oracle teaser, you can download it from there. Other than that I am sure there are some copies available for sale online but I'd rather not point you in the direction of profiteers!!

Q. Hello Oracle! In response to Nikolina, Sweden from 30th July, it may be of interest that there is a LRLRL swappage project happening where fans can send CDs to those who have none. All they have to do is go here and put their names down! Hope that is of use for Coldplay fans who want to help share the love!! Sorry this isn't a question! xoxo

The Oracle replies:

Not a question but a very informative submission. Thanks to the three other fans who also sent these details.

Q. Servus Oracle,

have you experienced the same:

If somebody is yawning next to you, even you're not really tired it catches you as well and you have to yawn?!

Why is this?

Thanks

The Oracle replies:

Fascinating isn't it? When I was younger I used to think that the other person yawned because the yawner had sucked their share of air with their yawn & they then had less oxygen to breathe! Ah how I loved my theory...

Anyway there's some interesting articles on the contagiousness of yawns...

Maybe you can decide what you think after reading some of them?

Q. Is this outrageous?

Yes! Please don't spend that much money on a book that is actually £14.99 here in the U.K.

Q. Dear Oracle,

Which is more important... the amount of friends you surround yourself with or being true to yourself? I know it sounds like an easy question but friends are an important factor.

The Oracle replies:

It's not an easy question if there was only one definitive answer but of course there's not; we can have both in life.

I think if this was a situation where you had to imagine you only had the one choice to make, being true to yourself would matter most to me. It would be all very well and good having a load of friends to hang out with but if I were a faker it would kinda make all those relationships fake too. That seems pointless to me.

So there you go, I say have both but always remain true to yourself regardless!

Q. This may be a bit personal, but why does/did the band request lemons and ginger on their rider? And why does the band NEED a rider, specifically? Wouldn't it be easier/less diva-like to leave that task to someone who knows them best who is on tour with them? I mean, there's a wal-mart in every city, nowadays, right?

The Oracle replies:

It's not exclusive to Coldplay; all bands have riders and trust me theirs is not at all Diva-esque. The riders are compiled by "someone who knows them best" but there is so much to do on show days that it's not possible for said someone in the crew to run around shopping on top of all the other things that need doing. Also to be honest, sometimes the venues are actually very far from grocery stores. Having experienced this on the Latin American tour if you did need something once at the venue it takes at least two to... co-ordinate leaving such a vast arena/stadium, getting transport to and from without hitting a lot of concert traffic on the way back and the actual activity left for; that's just not a productive use of time.

It's much easier if everything the band requires is there at the venue. The lemon and ginger are for Chris' hot drinks pre/during/post gig by the way.

Q. Why are the band laughing in this [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNv3H0wNobo&feature=related]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNv3H0wNobo&feature=related[/ame]video?

The Oracle replies:

When the video gets to around the 1 minute 45 seconds mark the band laugh as Chris has just sang the wrong lyrics! For verse 2 he repeats the second line of verse 1...

Q. Wise Oracle, how is it possible for my friend and I to have practically the same exact dream? The dream was about our friends trying to climb this mountain to get to heaven. Then I remembered before I went to bed that night, I listened to the Coldplay song 42. And the line in the song that says "You didn't get to heaven but you made it close" really related to our dreams! -Ali

The Oracle replies:

It's not all that uncommon; it's happened to me. I was sharing a twin room on a business trip and I swear my friend stole my dream as they had the same one as me! Here comes another theory of mine: I reckon my dream was above me hovering in the room as I slept and it ended up in their head on its journey back instead of back to me.

Listening to 42 and its lyrics certainly explains your dream content and therefore it's not exactly a coincidence or anything extraordinary...

Q. Hello, Oracle!

Last summer when I saw Coldplay in concert, I purchased a bottle of water and was surprised when the cashier wouldn't let me keep the cap to the bottle. I politely questioned this, and she said it was the band's request. Were they worried I would throw the cap at them or something?

xo,

Gretchen

The Oracle replies:

I'm not trying to diss the cashier or anything but that is not true at all; it is standard venue policy. Sadly at times it is quite common for people to throw their bottles and if the cap is off there's more chance that any contents are dispelled in travel causing less damage should said bottle land on someone's head for instance.

Q. I just heard the bit of Chris singing Parachutes during the Guadalajara show. Was he getting a little choked up by emotion? Thanks!

The Oracle replies:

No but I think most of the audience were! That was something that took everyone by surprise as none of us had heard that song live for quite some time.

Q. Greetings Oracle,

This message is directed at Phil or Dave, a response from either or both would be equally desirable.

I have a question regarding the abysmally awful state of documentaries about Coldplay. I've seen nearly every one of them, as far as those that are available here in the U.S., and not a single one of them is of any quality or credibility to reflect that of the band. Please advise if possible. Thank you, and best wishes.

Ethan

The Oracle replies:

You are entitled to your opinion of course and whilst you'd like a response from Phil or Dave, you're stuck with me. After all it's my name at the top of the page ;)

So in reply I direct you to the best [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PZardXOYIQ]documentary[/ame] by far (in my honest opinion) and hope this appeases you Ethan.
