Q. Dear Oracle,

In your honest opinion, do girls look better with or without a ton of makeup?

The Oracle replies:

Personally I prefer natural beauty. Don't get me wrong, I think make-up can enhance your best features but it shouldn't be worn as a mask. I think too much make-up caked on a face looks terrible!

  • I can't give you the reasonings on why things changed, but I can give you an update from what I observed. The Oracle was run by Debs Wild. Debs is still with the band and helps out fans, for exam

Q. Hi oracle! One question... has The World Turned Upside Down ever been played live? If so, when? (By the way, I'm talking about the Fix You B-side)

Gracias!!

The Oracle replies:

I've never heard it being performed live and there doesn't appear to be a recording or footage to show otherwise so I would have to deduce that no, it was never played live.

(It was actually played for for a fair few months during the AROBTTH tour in 2003 )

Q. Dear Oracle, there's something weird going on...

I was taking a look at the tags of your answers when I found the tag "will's nose". I thought "-wtf?! this can't be a tag" and, when I press the link it said that there's no item tagged as "will's nose". So, why is this a tag?? This made me laugh haha :D

Is it some joke?

greetings from Brazil <3

The Oracle replies:

Ah yes, its a mystery as to why that tag doesn't take you to a bona fide Oracle entry. Will had a little mishap on the Viva tour when the end of the drumstick came off hitting him in the nose when he whacking the bell during Viva la Vida.

Q. Will Coldplay ever play [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaOgR2MrD88&feature=related]this[/ame] version of Talk live? I would do anything for that! It's incredible and almost everybody agrees!

Thanks.

The Oracle replies:

It's extremely doubtful. This wasn't the version the band decided on for inclusion on X&Y. Although they gave it a techno re-vamp for the Viva tour, it's not likely to appear in the guise of one of the discarded variants. I love it too though it has to be said but then I like all incarnations of the song; there were a few.

Q. Dear Oracle,

Mr. Will Champion has spent his 2008 and 2009 birthdays performing live on stage with Coldplay in Toronto, Canada. Last year, in July 2009, my friends and I waited for hours outside of the arena and had the best seats in the house when we got in, front and center on the floor. Right before the band played Politik, we all began singing Happy Birthday to Mr. Champion, and the band laughed and waited in the dark for us to finish singing before they started. Do they remember this? It's too bad Will did not get to spend a third consecutive birthday in Toronto, we missed him!

-Suraj

The Oracle replies:

Trust me, if they did hear that they will remember it; it was a special night. As you were there you'll know that the band had a cake and balloons for Will and asked everyone to sing Happy Birthday to him. Looking back the footage available does show a slightly longer gap before the start of [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOQDpxZOyJI]Politik[/ame].

Q. Hello Oracle, I wonder if Chris has gone to the gym because in the presentation of Apple he was very muscular.

The Oracle replies:

The band all work out regularly and have a personal trainer who put them through their paces. This used to take place in a gym but moreover they use their own equipment.

The Oracle sucks at picking questions.

She used to pick better ones. :blank:

Q. Dear Oracle,

Please provide me with some of your wisdom. My boyfriend whom I love with all of my heart is leaving for college in 5 days. We are planning on staying together even though he will be over 800 miles away. Many of my friends think this is a bad idea but I can't just let him go. I need to try and fight for us no matter how much if hurts me emotionally. Do you think we should break up or stay together?

Laura

The Oracle replies:

Laura forget what your friends think; it's what you and your boyfriend think that counts. For what it's worth I think it will be very difficult to maintain your relationship and there's inevitably going to be occasions where the distance will come into question.

I would say that if it is hurting you emotionally it's not good for you. Sometimes to look after yourself you need to make sacrifices. Maybe you and your boyfriend can plan to meet up again after college and see how you cope with the temporary, yet long, separation...

Q. Hi!! I have been wondering for a while...where were the pictures of the band taken on the back of Parachutes? It looks like a spot in Hull. I really want to go there! Thanks

The Oracle replies:

It's not Hull; it's Blackpool.

Q. Oracle! I hope you are doing well.

Have you ever been to New York City with the band or at all?

The Oracle replies:

My NYC history goes thus:

1. A very brief stop over due to a delayed flight connection to a holiday destination many moons ago.

2. One cancelled flight 11th September 2001 (to see Coldplay who's trip was also obviously cancelled).

3. One non-Coldplay but music based trip (July 2002).

4. One trip to see Coldplay perform at both the China Club and the following night Madison Square Garden (June 2003).

So yes, I have been lucky enough to go there and to also see the band perform in both a tiny venue and one of the world's most famous arenas.

Oracle should change her name to Dr. Love or something. Those pathetic love problem questions are really getting on my nerves.

Q. Dear Oracle,

I am in need of your all-seeing knowledge. Recently I visited the page for Viva la Vida (the album) on Wikipedia. It said this:

"Lyrically, the album is a concept album of a man's consequences to escape from London in order to marry a woman in the fictional city of Strawberry Swing, and is a musical departure from previous releases.[citation needed]"

I just visited the page again and that sentence is gone; edited out. (Maybe 'citation' was never provided.) But is this sabotage, the speculation of an overeager fan, or is it at all grounded in fact? It has been driving me crazy for weeks! Thanks!

Aaron

The Oracle replies:

Well Aaron, I can put you out of your misery by telling you that there is no truth in that sentence at all! Wikipedia is known for being a great source of encyclopaedic information yet due to how and where it derives its content, there's room for error and unfortunately quite often mistakes do appear. "Citation needed" is usually a sign that the provider of the "fact" doesn't always have the necessary access to truth to back it up. In this - and other - cases the details are incorrect.

Q. Hello Oracle! Do you know where can I find/download/buy/anything a version with better audio quality of this song? I tried everywhere I could think of...

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjTY-Bv2SQM]YouTube- War Child - Bono, The Killers & Coldplay - All These Things That I've Done[/ame]

The Oracle replies:

As this was a one-off charity event there's no place you can buy an audio version. It would be great if it did appear on a future War Child album of course so let's hope they're reading this...

However, there are many different clips of that performance online.

Q. Dear Oracle,

Will there be a list presented on the website to show the winners of Guy's Old Photos contest? Thanks, Colin

The Oracle replies:

It's not a contest; signed photos are being sent out to a few lucky submitters but it's just a personal project. There's no news or developments to report on it right now.

Q. Oracle, did you know that today is 8-9-10? I found that very amusing this morning.

My dad told of one time when his friend asked him if he knew what time it was. He said he didn't, and his friend told him it was 12:34. He said so what? His friend said 'It's 12:34, the 5th of June, 1978. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8!'

Has anything like that ever happened to you?

I'd love to know.

-Charlotte

The Oracle replies:

Yeah that happened last year 12:34:56 7/8/9 and some people thought it was worth [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkmHQwlbHzY&feature=related]sharing[/ame].

Q. Hi Oracle,

I recently bought this wrapping paper, and when I came home I saw the layout was 'donated by Coldplay'.

So did really the four band members draw it?

And what is the last thing written on it? (and most important of all ...)

The Oracle replies:

I'd not seen wrapping paper available in the Whatever It Takes Coldplay design before to be honest and never seen it on any product lists.

The last part are initials... but their meaning remains private...

Wow. Oracle had a cancelled flight to New York on September 11th 2001. I wonder why that was? Bet she was flying Virgin.
