Q. Will Stephenie Meyer finish and publish her book Midnight Sun?

The Oracle replies:

You wouldn't believe how many questions I receive about the Twilight saga. Weirdly one comment this week was from a Coldplay fan that hates the series and spoke on behalf of all fans saying you'd all appreciate the band having nothing to do with it. I totally disagree and seemingly the majority of Oracle querents do too.

Anyway, as you're a fan of both, you should know that as with Alice, I am only able to see the outcome of a final decision once it is made. So if Stephenie changes her mind the course and end result will change also

ONE comment?

  • I can't give you the reasonings on why things changed, but I can give you an update from what I observed. The Oracle was run by Debs Wild. Debs is still with the band and helps out fans, for exam

Q. Hi Oracle,

In the song When Love Takes Over by David Guetta and Kelly Rowland, there is a piano part which sounds almost just like Clocks. Is that them copying Coldplay?

The Oracle replies:

Diego from Mexico also wanted to know whether permission had been sought for that melody line. The thing you have to remember with music is similarity does not mean copy. Granted the piano riff in the above mentioned song sounds almost identical but the point is, it isn't and therefore there was no breach of copyright.

Q. Dearest Oracle. What do you think of skinnies (or skin tight) jeans on fellas?

The Oracle replies:

I happen to think the rule is the same for guys and girls. Skinny jeans just aren't flattering on everyone so it depends what you're putting into them. The Oracle isn't shallow but I believe it's better to wear whatever suits your shape

Not every male can get away with wearing them but when you look at Kings of Leon, they totally get away with it. Maybe it's because they're rock stars?

Q. Oracle,

Wow...not only do you know everything you're fast. Thanks so much for answering my question about the new live version of Clocks. I realized after reading your response I realize now I should have been more specific. Following the verse "nothing else compares" and before "home home..." Chris repeats a phrase. Sorry I wasn't clear the first time.

The Oracle replies:

Thanks to Gonzalo from Argentina who was the first to spot that you probably meant the live version of Clocks on LRLRL.

"Don't you think Julie, from the USA, was trying to ask you about the phrase "uno, dos, tres, cuatro" repeated by Chris over and over again in the track Clocks in LRLRL (right after the verse "nothing else compares..."), in the question she asked on 12th June?"

And to the others that asked, it means "one, two, three, four" in Spanish.

Q. Oh Wise Oracle,

I noticed that in Lost+, during Jay-Z's solo, he says the "n"-word. Now, I realize that Jay-Z himself probably wrote the lyrics himself, but why would the members of Coldplay to allow that word in one of their songs? I was surprised when I heard it, as I can't recall any swearing in any of Coldplay's songs.

But other than that, I thought it was a good solo and it added to the song.

Hugs and kisses,

Jen

The Oracle replies:

Ah a sensitive subject but nonetheless an interesting point you bring up. As we all know, the N word is considered offensive by the majority of people yet is commonly heard in certain films and music genres. The word has been reclaimed and that is why it is deemed acceptable to be said by certain people.

Q. Hey lovely Oracle!

I have questions I hope u can answer =)

1. On the mailing list, I put my name and everything but when is says an email has been sent, I checked my email a few days later and I still didn't get an email. then I put [email protected] and I tried again but I still didn't get an email. Why aren't I getting anything?

2. Not really Coldplay related, but do you think Will Ferrell looks like the drummer from the Red Hot Chili Peppers (Chad Smith)? I find them identical! People say Chris Martin looks like Hugh Laurie but I don't really see where they're coming from, What do u think?

Thanks in advance i hope my question will get picked =))

The Oracle replies:

Ha ha ha you have really made me laugh with the comparison between Chad and Will! You are spot on! They really do look alike but I had never noticed before.

Anyway, about your other query, keep an eye on the website for any Messenger (newsletter) announcements and if you see it and have still not received an email, contact [email protected] and I'm sure she can forward your details directly to the Messenger.

I subscribed for the newsletter as well but never actually got one :(

But I always see them here, thanks :)

Q. At the Quest Center show, there seemed to be a very long delay between supporting act Snow Patrol and Coldplay. It lasted at least 45 minutes and included a stagehand breakdancing to Jay-Z and the blaring of a quirky orchestral piece. Does this happen before every show, or was there just some technical difficulties? If this is a common occurrence, what is the title of the orchestra piece?

The Oracle replies:

That's around the standard time between the support and main act. There are a few changes that need to be made between the two. Backdrops, lights and instruments need to be in place and checked before the main show. Also the opening act's gear needs to be removed. It gives time for everything to be ready plus the crowd can use the facilities!

Q. I'm a cake decorator in Des Moines, Ia. Today a woman picked up a cake from me and told me it was for the band. I really need to know if this is true, because i'd love to tell people. Also, if it IS true, what's the occasion? And did they enjoy the cake? (HONESTLY?)

The Oracle replies:

I have no idea if they enjoyed the cake but one was bought from you. In Roadie #42's birthdays blog it mentions several birthdays in the Coldplay extended family. Your cake was bought for Dan Green.

Haha, we've seen her tweet about that before!!

Cool that she asked the Orcacle.

Q. There was a group that played before Coldplay. All I know; they were from Australia. They sounded bad ass. I need the name of the group?

Thanks Oracle.

I saw them in the San Antonio, TX June 10, 2009.

The Oracle replies:

That'll be the fantastic Howling Bells.

Q. I was watching an episode of the BBC tv series The Tudors the other day on dvd. One of the characters who is a good friend of Henry the King, but I can't find his real name or character name, is a double for Chris, and this guy gets up to all sorts! Then again maybe he's not a double, maybe Chris took some time out to do a bit of acting!

The Oracle replies:

This will hopefully help you find the actor but I assure you it isn't Chris!

Q. What should one expect at a Coldplay concert? Lighting of the candles? Replay of song lyrics by the audience? ??? Dancing in the aisles? What?

Obviously I'm a newbie!!!

The Oracle replies:

July 13th right? I hope this means you've now found someone to go with Lynn! You can expect a fantastic show, great lights, visuals, balloons and butterflies. There'll be singing and dancing for sure. Hopefully no candles as that would be a health and safety issue. There's no official gig etiquette, you just let your hair down and enjoy yourself.

Q. Dear Oracle,

It has been a hectic week and I am exhausted. Please, please say something funny that makes my day. Thank you!

The Oracle replies:

I was at the airport, checking in at the gate when an airport employee asked, "Has anyone put anything in your baggage without your knowledge?" To which I replied, "If it was without my knowledge, how would I know?" He smiled knowingly and nodded, "That's why we ask."

Q. Oh ever-knowing Oracle,

Is it true Coldplay are releasing a Viva La Vida Tour DVD? I heard Chris was talking about it then I heard that Coldplay's Video Manager said that the filming in Vancouver was "for the archive."

Oh please answer, Oracle.

Thanks a billion

-Andrew

The Oracle replies:

It's usual to document the live shows for archive but there are no further plans for the footage as yet.

Well Debs is clearing all our questions!!

Q. Dear Oracle

You told Lynn that there is no etiquette at the band's concerts.

I only have a fig-leaf. Is it OK?

E V A

The Oracle replies:

Well I didn't want to list unwritten rules about respecting your fellow audience members as I have faith that everyone knows that already. This also answers Siobhain from Australia who asked about standing up in the seated area. That may be a venue rule rather than obscuring the view of the person behind. Some people want to stand and dance and some don't. Trying to compromise would be a good idea. There's usually some standard rules printed on the back of the ticket or on the venues' websites.

I would hope people don't need me to tell them how not to behave, hence me telling Lynn to let her hair down and have fun. Wearing a fig leaf is probably breaching some indecency laws so clothes are the best option!

Q. Hello, I hope you have a good day. The Bakery was a new building? And how much cost were taken to built it? And how many floor, 3? Is the Bakery like a bungalow house? Hmm..I think I ask you too much but that's all. I hope you can answer it, thank you very much.

The Oracle replies:

Greetings Malaysia. The band didn't build it so no, it wasn't new when they moved in. It was once a real bakery and that's why they refer to it as The Bakery. As you walk in, the ground floor is the studio area. There are stairs leading to the first floor and a spiral staircase up to a mezzanine floor.

Q. Oracle, you never answered the question users have asked about why Chicago was filmed and for what. You answered the Question about the Vancouver show pretty quickly though, what gives?

Thanks

The Oracle replies:

Hmm, maybe I had a dream about answering, as I am sure I pointed out that you will always see cameras at all the concerts. They have to have some way of getting the images on to the screens for the people at the back to see!

This has to be our Mike that asked this!! And I think she is totally dodging the DVD question. Those giant camera booms in Chicago were not for the big screens as there weren't big screens last summer!!:D

Oohhh..... mistery :sneaky:

Q. Hello omniscient Oracle,

I was just curious about the live performance of Moses on the Live 2003 DVD. Is he using the Rico-sound input of the Rickenbacker or the standard input. I've been trying to play it but it just doesn't sound right on my Fender 12-string. Thanks for reading this if you do.

The Oracle replies:

Chris would be using the standard mono output on the Rickenbacker 12 through a Fender Deville 2x12 on the built in overdrive and possibly, more overdrive settings.

But Ricky 12's have a specific sound even on the regular output and you may struggle to reproduce it on another guitar.

I should also point out that Chris doesn't use normal tuning on it; the 'b' string is lowered 1 full tone to 'a' i.e. the tuning is (low to high) E A D G A E".

Thanks to Hoppy, Chris' guitar tech, who gets each guitar ready to play.

Q. Oracle,

I hope you can guide me on that one. I am a pop singer, recording a demo right now. I'd like to send it to record companies. I tried and tried to find their address but it seems impossible. Their is one site where you can pay 15$ and they supposedly have all the addresses. Would you trust that? And if not where can I find all this info.

Thanks a lot for your help.

See you in Montreal.

The Oracle replies:

It shouldn't seem impossible as labels do give that information on their websites, you just have to look for it. For example, EMI list their addresses for demo submissions. Click the FAQ link.

There are lots of sites that will take your money and many may be a waste of that hard-earned cash. However, there are some useful sites that give information about key A&R players as well as the way the industry works with in depth interviews with personnel. One that I quite like is Hitquarters with an annual subscription service of between $9-19 per year.
