Q. Hi dear Oracle

I would like to know why you guys decided to call your first song "Ode To Deodorant" like that? It's such a great song a I would really like to know!

Good evening! Thanks!

The Oracle replies:

I swear the first time I heard that song I thought it was a euphemism for something else. I'd never heard a song about something so random but totally believe Chris when he says that is in fact about deodorant!

Q. Oh, all-knowing Oracle!

Is it true that when you create something (such as a painting or a novel), a part of your soul goes into it? This is not meant literally, is it?

I hope that you will be able to answer this! Thank you.

The Oracle replies:

A common expression used to convey the passion felt for something is to say that you put your heart and soul into it. This can sometimes extend to blood, sweat and tears which basically means you worked very hard and put everything you had into it, but as you say, not literally; probably more spiritually.

Most creative types do put a huge amount of their personal pain, grief, love and other emotions into their work and that can be very cathartic and often therapeutic but the same could be said of a wedding planner, teacher, doctor, gardener... in fact anyone who shows passion for their vocation in life. Come to think of it so does being a parent or partner.

Q. Mr. Oracle,

I realize that in the Lost+ music video there is a double video shot. Is that true and I would like to know where is the place was? I realize at the beginning of the video I see Chris wear a white shirt whereas Guy wear a red shirt with a black vest. After Chris put down the guitar, the video switch into the two of them wear another shirt like coat they always wear it also appear Will and Jonny.

Oh..another one, I see the first video like an old view and the stage exactly almost the same!

Thanks for answer my question.

The Oracle replies:

The videos were directed by Mat Whitecross and filmed at United Center in Chicago on 22nd/23rd July 2008.

It's quite usual for live videos to be a hybrid of 2 shows where possible. It means that the director can give it a different feel just by using shots from both nights. The Live DVD 2003 was filmed over 2 nights also.

With the Lost videos Chris starts the song without his jacket and takes it off as he starts singing but the differences are very subtle. Obviously the main difference is the onstage television set, used to good effect to incorporate Jay Z's rap.

Q. I've been quite confused about this and was wondering if you could help clarify: Does the artist Santogold spell her name and her album's name Santigold or Santogold? Thanks in advance.

The Oracle replies:

Santi White a.k.a Santigold, was formerly known as Santogold. The 2008 album was both titled and credited to Santogold as this was before the change of spelling earlier this year.

There's a well-established company called Santo Gold and so Santi had to alter her stage name slightly to avoid any legal confrontation.

  • I can't give you the reasonings on why things changed, but I can give you an update from what I observed. The Oracle was run by Debs Wild. Debs is still with the band and helps out fans, for exam

HAARP was awesome. I couldn't stop watching it every night for a month  :embarassed:

I'll superimpose your picture onto the recording Pris :D

Q. Dear Wise, All-Knowing Oracle,

I was browsing the Online Coldplay Shop, and there was a drinking glass reading "Coldplay" on it, but above it was a picture of a robot. What does the robot have to do with Coldplay?

Another quick question, did Coldplay get in any trouble for the picture on the "Viva" album, due to a bit of revealing imagery?

The Oracle replies:

The robot is taken from the Talk video, which features the little fella.

There were a couple of places that weren't able to stock Viva la Vida due to the cover; some just used price stickers etc to cover her modesty!

Q. Is the song Don't Panic by Coldplay trying to say about global warming and what we are doing to our beautiful world?

The Oracle replies:

It's actually more about being optimistic and seeing that every cloud has a silver lining, which means that even though there may be a negative situation, something positive can come from it.

There were a couple of places that weren't able to stock Viva la Vida due to the cover; some just used price stickers etc to cover her modesty!

That made me

That made me

Yes, I smiled as well when I read it! :laugh3:

I'd love it if they made a really chunky DVD package for the Wembley DVD. You know, with several discs..one with the concert, another with a massive and in-depth tour diary (I got so sad when the live2003 one finished...just as they were going to Australia!!). And then possibly a CD of the concert (just audio) and another disc with bonus features (studio footage and extra interviews with the band etc etc).

Wow..I got so excited typing that!! But how freakin good would it be when you finally get the DVD and you're holding it in your hand and it's all heavy from the multiple CD/DvDs and booklet...and its one of those fold-out cardboard covers.....SQQUUEEEE!!!!!!!

YAY!! I'm so excited for something that doesn't exist yet and I'm totally making up..but who cares! SQQQUUEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be cool if a tour diary was also made, together with the Wembley concert, of all the different legs of the tour so far... US leg 1, 2, 3, the UK leg, Australia/Asia leg, plus the summer arena tours. That would be really awesome :cheesy:

And you'll be in every single one of it...except maybe the US tour

And you'll be in every single one of it...except maybe the US tour

*books air ticket to US and Coldplay concert tickets*

That made me

Haha me too

I'm jealous, you travel almost all around the world to see them ! ;)

My bank balance isn't too happy though :uhoh:

For someone who can manage to come to Australia for Eskimo Joe, I doubt that..:inquisitive:

I wonder what would have happened if the crotch of the dead fella down to the left was exposed as well . . .

Interviewer: What do you think of your album?

Jonny: The cover has boobs on it!

Chris: . . . & a crotch! :wacky:

Guy & Will: :shifty:

Q. Is it true Coldplay is touring with Amadou and Mariam? If so, have they considered performing a duet?

The Oracle replies:

Amadou & Mariam will be opening for Coldplay from 10th - 24th July but there's no plans for a duet.

Q. Hail to the Great Oracle,

Is Will Champion a man of few words or silent person? Sometimes his composure is so calm that it makes me wonder.

Best Regards,

Chris

The Oracle replies:

Will's definitely not silent! The fact he's calm, thoughtful and articulate makes him a perfect spokesman for the band. He may appear serious at times but I assure you he's not a man of few words and great company.

Q. Guten Tag Frau oder Herr Oracle,

I was wondering if Coldplay's fifth album would contain all new material, or withhold tracks previously unheard like Famous Old Painters, Lukas, or Blasphemy? I don't know whether or not this question has been answered, and if so please tell me so. Haha

Wie immer ein riesiger Fan von Coldplay,

Cody

P.S. The Boys were terrific in ATL

The Oracle replies:

It's not very usual for such old tracks to appear as new material. As ideas develop for a new album, many tracks are discarded. In My Place is a rare exception. That song was played on the Parachutes tour and survived demo and recording sessions to end up on A Rush of Blood. Other songs that had been considered initially were either used as b-sides to singles or abandoned completely.

Q. Dear, my lovely Oracle.

I read that it took a month for Chris Martin to learn how to sang backward for The Scientist video.

So here's my question. What does the "backward" means?

Well, my sister and I has been argue about these for a few days and its start to annoying me.

She said that Chris only need to read the syllable backward when I said he need to read the lyric backward for every single letter.

Example: no-bo-dy = dy-bo-no (her opinion)

n-o-b-o-d-y = y-d-o-b-o-n (mine)

Which one of us is right and please give the explanation also cos we both really need to know before we start to kill each other because of this.

Huge thanks and love for you.

Salam

The Oracle replies:

You're right. When you say/sing anything backwards it has to be letter by letter not syllable by syllable. When you play the reversed version backwards it has to sound as the forward version does. That would only work if the letters were reversed.

Q. Oooh dear Oracle! can you tell me which songs are the best to make the love with my boyfriend and made it unforgiven? Thanks

The Oracle replies:

You mean unforgettable rather than unforgiven...

I'm not entirely sure it's appropriate to recommend any songs, as that's a very intimate, personal part of your life. I can think of plenty but think it may be best for you to find your own!
