a_face_of_light
You know what, as world leader go I actually admire Putin a great deal, he's an inteligent man and has really bought Russia forward in terms of economic prosperity, I don't think they will take sanctions from the EU very seriously even if they do lay them down which is also unlikley, there are NO superpowers in the EU it's mostly just a bunch of burocrats in Brussels thinking of the best way to squander money and come up with pointless laws and resrictions that stifle growth and further weaken its members, I can't speak for other countries but I think the government Britian has had for the last few years is quite frankly an embarasment and I will relish the day they become stuck in oppisition for what I hope is a very long time. a_face_of_light
I don't think they could do any worse though, I'm so sick of the way the current government have ruined the country with constant taxation and nannying, in my opinion David Cameron will be a better PM than Gordon Brown, but then that wouldn't be too hard!!. bart
Gordan Brown is useless ... does not present the confident image that Blair once had... I thought Ian Hulme would have been a good replacment, ex home office minister....... Â I wish Blair never went to War with Iraq as he would still be there.. a_face_of_light
I was too young to remember him in power but from what I've read and seen I think Major made a good PM, his party at the time though just had too many problems.

a_face_of_light
I agree with you, he seemed to be a good man and have the 'substance' that Brown drones on about but doesn't actually possess and seemed more upfront and less spin obsessed than Blair or Cameron, if he entered the political arena again now I would vote for him. I'd prefer China, they treat people better. At least with the American empire we let western Europe enjoy freedoms and wealth, i doubt very much Russia would let that happen. Just ask the Eastern European nations, they know what it's like. Btw in America you speak out on our government you get famous and popular, in Russia you get shot. Man, Russia is such a good nation! Any nations that has felt the wrath of Russia, will say they'd sooner have America's empire then a Russian one. But I'm sure you know nothing of Russian policy. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7590719.stm

Matter-Eater Lad
There are a ton of other stories of writers being killed for being anti Putin. Simply speaking out against the government has gotten many killed.
bart
it depends how they are speaking out....... sometimes people need controlling for the greater good and saftey of all. Â Personally I wish one person was in control or one one body of people was in control of the world. Anyone whom thought they was better than the next person would be made to think otherwise. Yes it sounds daunting, but as a human race we would strive forward and survive. At the current rate we only have around 5 years. Â Mate, I urge you to watch a programme in the coming months and I think it will be screened in the US called spooks... it based on the day to day adventures of M15 in the UK, it is fiction loseley based on facts of what happens and the decisons goverments take, it shows a shocking truth of coverups, kidnappings and exuecutions of inocent people by the British US and Isreali goverments. IF you rely on fiction movies for fact then i have nothing left to say, its beyond ignorant.
Matter-Eater Lad
You don't need a fiction movie to find out what governments do to people. Its out there in facts the murders and kidnappings, your government, my government, Russia's government.... My point is this; as a whole America treats western europe better then Russia treated its closest allies. Both sides do bad things but not on the same level. I would imagine you believe Russia does not do these things.
bart
Your Goverment and the isrealis have complained about this programme a number of times as it seems to be very close to the truth.  There is one episode which tells a story of the Saudi Arabian Embassy being taken over by what are portrayed as Islamic terroists trying to derial a deal between the US and UK goverments in giving them nukes. These terroists are asking for the realese of key terror tells held in Saudi goverment. Holding the Saudi Arabian Royal Family as hostage.  It later comes out that it was the Mosos mascarading as islamic terroists as they are scared that the Arabs will have too much of a power base in the middle east. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spooks#Single_Episodes  please give it a chance
