I'll say only this, I know I'm boring, exuse me, but I want to share it with you.They are all very kind, modest, offcourse they are stars in some way, but I don't know, I think that their strenght as a band is in fact in this simplicity, they're not pretentious rock stars, they seem very nice and simple and we love them for being like that.So, couple days ago they were in front of me, now, they act like machines, it's so automatic, because nowdays they don't have a chance to miss, this is their chance to be the biggest, grandest, coloristic, woowooowooo, wow band, and in fact they are lost!

I know what you mean, they had this sweet sadness and intimacy to their older stuff that I really loved. But the world is so dark right now, and their new stuff is so full of light and life, it's like the perfect antedote to all the darkness. I don't see how celebrating life can count as loosing your spiritual side.

 

I don't know about anyone else, but hearing lines in happy songs like "I have no doubt, one day the sun will come out" and "it's such a perfect day", and in a display so full of colour and joy, I think it's wonderful. :nice: Wish I could see it live.

AROBTTH was the album that got me hooked onto Coldplay, but I can't really put down the songs from VLVOD just because it's 'happier'. Sure, the more melancholy songs can really help us emotionally and touch us deeply, but so can happier songs. I know Strawberry Swing and VLV got me to 'see the light', so to speak.

 

Like Erin said, the world is a shithole now. It wouldn't hurt to show some of the better things in life.

this is a great way of putting it, one that i'd never thought of before. generally, i enjoy their "sadder" stuff more, like "see you soon" and "careful where you stand" and all that, and i really do miss that melancholic sort of "help me, i'm in a hole" sort of thing they had going on up until X&Y. i have to say that i do kind of miss the reason i loved them from the start, because the love that i have for the new stuff is different. but you're right: things have gotten pretty bad in this world, and the brighter, happier stuff like "strawberry swing" and "lovers in japan" are the perfect antithesis :nice:

 

i do, however, still like the acoustic version of "lovers in japan" much better because it has that tiny hint of old-coldplay melancholia :uhoh:

Yes and Britney spears is happy, so does madonna, so justin oh yea owww, thet are all antithesis, no it's just easier to sold

I actually think their "sadder" songs lift up my spirits and make me really happy.. it's nice to feel connected to something

I don't believe that coldplay has gotten any more "bright" or "dark", they have always been the same. The same band who picks me up when I'm down and keeps me happy when I need to be.

 

If they had "big band syndrome" They wouldnt play at all these venues this many nights on this tour.

I saw them for the first time over summer, and I cannot tell you how amzing they are towards their fans.

They make you feel as if they truly are sooo grateful that you love and support them.

 

Yes, Coldplay sounds different this time around. But Chris said from the begining that the first three albums were a trilogy.

 

Coldplay is experimentign with new sounds, but if you listen carefully you can still hear the same meaningful lyrics that we all have been loving for years....:D

well, but with that tour they'll bring some new fans (like me ahaha)... but i understand you totally... i'm rhcp fan since calif. and saw them 2 years ago for the first time and i was disappointed too.. it's just because you know everything about them, and you have some expectations...

Yeah a dark place makes it intimate but I found Live 2003 boring after a few runs.................Viva la vida i think is amazing.... but hence i dont have the album yet. again

Welcome to our newest member, Happiness

Hey, I've had all those feelings about them, even when seeing them live. I miss the old days, with songs like 'See you soon', or 'We never change', although I think that the new stuff is pretty awesome. The best way to describe their latest record is to say that it's colorful, as the band themselves did.

Oh, and one more thing.

While seeing them live in Prague, I obviously enjoyed the show, but I was at the same time a little bit sad, because what I saw wasn't exactly the same thing that I see when I think of them, if you know what I mean. The show was perfectly planned, and there were no setlist surprises till the end. It was the time they've played Fix you again, I realized that it's still the same, cool old band, and nothing have changed, because no other band would have done so for their audience, and for that we love them ;)
