drunken ass people.......... :P

It would be best if they get nominated in all those given categories and win them all at the same time. Then we can have a party all year round! :D

I hope even if they don't win anything (which is pretty impossible in my mind) they perform! I would love to see them perform. I always enjoy their grammy ones.

Yeah! Viva La Vida would be awesome with a full orchestra!

I think it is better to receive only one nomination and win it, rather than receive five nominations and lose in all of them! :D

I agree

wait... so did Clocks win song of the year, or record of the year???

they should win all of them, only best video not

they should win all of them, only best video not

Agree!

I'd love to see them SWEEP all their nominations and win all of them - that would REVIVE the album in every sense of the word. And I'm not just being a loon when I say that, I genuinely think they deserve wins in most of these categories, primarily ALBUM OF THE YEAR. No album this year has come CLOSE to VLVODAHF.

PS. Grammy nominations will be announced on the morning of December 3rd.

There are Nine days until Grammy nominees are announced.

Grammy voters may be challenged when it comes to naming a best rock album at the 2009 ceremony, which is set for Feb. 8. The reason: Three-time winners of the best rock album Grammy, the Foo Fighters, will not have a release in contention this year.

How much does Grammy love the Dave Grohl-led band? The Foos will be performing at the Dec. 3 nomination announcement, so you can bet the act will get nominated for a single or two. But the 2009 best rock album winner? That will be Metallica.

The act’s “Death Magnetic” has been one of most successful rock albums of the year, and critics were on the positive side of the spectrum when it came to reviewing the album. Although it probably won’t top many year-end lists, it was widely viewed as a significant leap forward from Metallica’s 2003 “St. Anger,” and the music biz loves comeback stories. Metallica already has seven Grammys to its name, but none for best rock album. Bold prediction that Pop & Hill will likely regret: That will change come 2009.

So who will join Metallica as the other four nominees in the category? Here are the best bets for best rock album:

Metallica’s Death Magnetic”

Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends”

Kid Rock’s “Rock N Roll Jesus”

Kings of Leon’s “Only By the Night”

R.E.M.’s “Accelerate”

Reasoning: Kings of Leon’s “Only By the Night” will be considered a breakout album for the group — best reviewed, highest charting — and it’s the strongest record of the above crop. Plus, voters would be wise to bring in some new blood. R.E.M. will get rewarded for releasing its best album since 1996’s “New Adventures in Hi-Fi,” and Kid Rock will be rewarded for having one of the most surprisingly consistent sellers of 2008, as well as one of the biggest singles of the year. Coldplay, however, may get slotted for best alternative album, but that’s a mistake. In the alternative field, Coldplay would lose to Radiohead’s “In Rainbows,” so it should get a push for best rock album. If not, see below.

Potential nominees:

The Eagles’ “Long Road of Eden”

John Mayer’s “Where the Light Is”

Neil Young’s “Chrome Dreams II”

The Raconteurs’ “Consolers of the Lonely”

My Morning Jacket’s “Evil Urges”

Reasoning: The Eagles will rack up noms, but “Long Road Out of Eden” will likely get the country push. As for John Mayer, he shouldn’t be nominated for a live album, but Grammy loves the man, and everything he touches gets a nom. “Chrome Dreams” is a fine record, but Young has been overlooked when it comes to the Grammys, and this probably won’t be the record that gets him rewarded for past omissions. The Raconteurs and My Morning Jacket are long shots, and could get slotted in other categories as well. But this isn’t the Raconteurs’ best work, and “Evil Urges” dreadfully over-experiments.

Better alternative:

Local’s H’s “12 Angry Months.” Pity Local H. The duo of guitarist-vocalist Scott Lucas and drummer Brian St. Clair is essentially forgotten, lazily categorized as “post-grunge.” But “12 Angry Months” is an angry swirl of rock ‘n’ roll venom, full of scorching classic-rock solos, and thundering, unremitting rhythms. As relentless as “Death Magnetic” but more focused. So a concept record about being dumped is anything but new, but it’s all in the details. For much of the album, you’re on Lucas’ side, especially when he’s asking an ex who gets to keep which bars.

EXCLUSIVE: BRITS STORM THE GRAMMYS

WATCH out Yanks – British girls are set to the conquer America’s prestigious Grammy Awards next year.

Duffy, Leona Lewis and Estelle are all tipped to get major nods when the nominees for the music industry’s most respected awards are announced on December 3.

The lovely British trio are all front runners for one of the event’s so-called Big Four gongs – Record Of The Year. Last year the award went to our own Amy Winehouse, 25, for Rehab.

My source polishing the 2009 Grammy statuettes in LA told me: “I’d be surprised if Leona, Estelle and Duffy don’t get major nominations. The buzz is all around the Brits again.”

Duffy’s mega hit Mercy is a popular choice with the Grammy voting commitee.

Although it stalled at No 27 on the US charts, Mercy received plenty of exposure when it was featured on top-rated TV show Grey’s Anatomy.

The 24-year-old Welsh babe’s track was also rapped over by hip hop star The Game and covered by Bon Jovi on their summer tour.

Also groomed for Grammy success is Leona, 23, whose Bleeding Love became the first track by a British female artist to top the US chart in 17 years, not mentioning being the biggest-selling single of the 21st century so far.

The X Factor babe, who releases new single Run digitally on Sunday, is even tipped to perform live at the LA bash on February 8.

Then there’s Estelle’s popular American Boy – which, with help from a Kanye West rap, cracked the US top 10 and is widely considered to be the musician’s choice.

Estelle, 28, told me: “It’s the Brits who are way ahead of the Americans right now.

“Whenever I’m over there they ask me, ‘How did you get this sound?’ or, ‘Where are all these UK artists coming from?’ They’re paying attention to us now.”

If the girls don’t take the award then British boys may clean up instead.

Coldplay’s song Viva La Vida is a shoe-in for a nomination and, of course, the accompanying album is a favourite for Album Of The Year.

If all goes to plan it promises to be a great comeback for UK artists – especially considering our disappointing show at this year’s MTV Europe awards.

Great!!!!

Can't wait to hear the nominations!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

& Mtv Europe awards were a big dissapointment indeed...... :\

I hope violet hill wins best rock song, viva la vida song of the year and record of the year, I doubt viva la vida or death and all his friends wins album of the year, but I still hope so

I didn't see this thread when I created a thread on the nominations being announced on Wednesday. For the folks in the US, CBS is airing the nominations live along with a concert. At the moment, the only artist I know that is performing live during the special is Celine Dion.

I do not know how they are doing the nominations. Usually the nominations are announced first thing in the morning but this year might be different. I don't know if all the nominations (there are a lot of categories) will be announced in the morning and then the major categories repeated during the concert, or if the non-major categories will be announced in the morning while the major categories would be announced during the concert.

I predict that Coldplay will earn five or six nominations. I think they will be nominated for either all or all but one of these categories: Album, Song, Record, Rock Album, Rock Song and Pop/Group of the Year. I don't see the video for Violet Hill as being nominated.

I hope they are nominated in all those categories and that they will win something!

The Brits have been awesome this year with music. I hope the artists will get recognized properly.

AMAs =/= Grammys (by such a longshot at this point, maybe).
