London sees first October snowfall in 74 YEARS

Featured Replies

Jack Frost is obviously a little more impatient than usual this year.

Just two days after the end of British Summertime, the first snowfall of the season turned large swathes of the country white last night.

Even London was hit by a light dusting last night - the first time the capital has seen snow in October since 1934.

A car heads through blizzard-like conditions in Stevenage, Hertfordshire

That was the year footballer Stanley Matthews first pulled on an England jersey, Adolf Hitler became Fuhrer and Alcatraz prison opened its gates off San Francisco.

Other areas of the South-East, including Hertfordshire, just 20 miles out of London, were covered in a thick blanket of snow.

Thousands of homes in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Essex were today without power as the unseasonal weather led to substation problems.

The last time it snowed in the region in October was 1974.

We just broke the record in Orlando last night for the coldest day in October ever and on average this month has been colder then usual.

it hasn't snowed in london since the 30's? that would suck. i feel bad you guys had bad weather and no snow to boot? no snow days for the school kids

Global Warming huh?, I wonder if someones feeling like an inconvienient twat

hahaha so true

btw were all going to die from global warming, give the politicians more money to waste so they can "fix" it.:\

Don't look at one or two events, and think that's proof for or against climate change. Some predictions suggest that if the North Atlantic Conveyor Belt stops, then Europe will get much colder, and some parts of North America and Asia as well. But this weather event is a blip on the radar screen, just like the record hot days in summer a few years back. To see the truth, we have to take the average, and look longer-term.

we have to take the average, and look longer-term.

I agree, but that is the opposite of what global warmest are doing! Lets rely on hard science, facts and history not fads when so much is at stake. Like funding and research taken away from saving plants and animals dying out, pollution that causes cancer.....

Look at the hard science...and that says were not in danger from global warming. Actually we'll see in the future global cooling

But I'm sure someone will yell the sky is falling with that and ask for more money and regulations.
