our market's become less and less friendly towards striving musicians, and after the priceless impact music has had on all of our lives, we have little right to complain that music isn't worth that much. You can always get the tracks a dollar a pop online anyway.

its a weird time for music. the whole foundation of the business has been crumbling. its nice that musicians are coming up with ways to keep themselves afloat (and with the world's economy right now, its nice that we do get some things for free)

 

i remember Richard Ashcroft was saying once, that after his music is released, its not really his anymore, but that it belongs to the people in which it means the most to. and while I like the idea of that (and agree to an extent) if bands gave away too much, they wouldn't be able to sustain the expensive task of keeping themselves at that certain level that they've always strived for.

 

(honestly i don't know the first thing about this :P) but, it does strike me as silly to expect to get these things for free, when a) it costs quite a bit to put these things out, and b) they've already given us quite a bit free of charge.

 

also, an awful lot of very successful musicians (coldplay included) are quite philanthropic. its all recycled sound, and its recycled money.

I think it's a brave move to release another CD in the current download/filesharing climate. I know it's Coldplay and it'll probably do quite well, but it's not been hyped nearly as much as Viva La Vida was - although it was a good move to announce the stadium gigs on the release date of PM and for Glass Of Water to get a few radio plays, all part of the marketing plan. I'd be interested to see what the sales figures for Prospekt's March are like compared to Viva.

They probably won't be half as good. If anyone was a fan of a band they liked though, they would do the right thing and buy the cd.

Fat chance, Parachutes era ended when Chris played the first C7 of politik. The band wouldn't be half what it is today if they did nothing but make indie-pop ballads of that sort up until now. Band's need to evolve in order to improve and survive, one of the reasons Coldplay is more succesful than say the strokes, the shins or jack johnson. They change because they've exhausted their abilities in that genre, If AROBTTH had tried to imitate parachutes, it would've been weak and subpar.

It's Coldplay's love of music that keeps them expanding their horizons and their musical pallete. If that's trying to be u2, then I think every band should have a little u2 in their blood.

It's obvious this quy just wanted attention and so he started this thread knowing people would reply to his complaining. If you don't want to buy the EP, that's on you. Go ahead and download it... I bought the vinyl and the digital on iTunes so technically it's like I bought you a copy :)

Dude, it's at a reduced price. It's not a full album, so they're not charging for a full album. Why shouldn't you pay to hear music you haven't heard before, or support a favorite band? Coldplay have to support themselves.

 

If it bothers you that much, just download it illegally.

It's perfectly ok to release an EP after an album. But I really hate the fact that they re-release the album with the EP and it's cheaper than buying them separately. Last time they released a tour edition of X&Y here with a DVD, which really pissed me off. I wouldn't buy this EP if it's not a limited release.

 

Come on what is the point of buying the album in the beginning? Let's all go and get free download and later buy the re-release...

They gave us Violet Hill, they gave us a limited edition of VH vinyl with ASARY, they gave us DWNC, they gave us Lost! video, they gave us VLV videos, they gave us LIJ videos, they gave us Glass Of Water video preview, they gave us PM previews. What else should we ask?

Coldplay dont try and sound like radiohead or u2 or whatever, they just try to play their own stuff and be coldplay! Who cares if two things are similar! Two things that are similar can be good. And also how many sounds in the world possible to be created by bands so that every band can be completely unique! Not enough

You can't critise them for not giving you extra songs. They probably worked emtremely hard to get the ones on the Ep as the did and we should be lucky to get to hear them at all.

there was no need for this ep - could have taken a couple of tracks of vlv and swapped, then use the others for b-sides.

To be honest i reckon EMI pressured them to release this as they haven't been doing so well of late.
