??????????????????????????????????????????????????

Coldplay practically tries to sound like Radiohead.

You need to listen to Kid A.

Seriously... I would do almost anything to live in England where its cold, rainy, and the sun doesn't come out - No I'm not depressed - I'm prone to depression, but have wanted to live there for quite awhile. Point is, you don't like Radiohead?

????????????

Yeah, if only she listened to Kid A she would witness the obvious similarity .

Please, if you're going to prescribe a radiohead album that sounds remotely like coldplay, make it 'the bends'. Because frankly, nothing sounds like Kid A (certainly not anything coldplay's churned out) She would probably break her mp3 player less than a minute into "the national anthem".

I always found the radiohead comparisons ill-founded and absurd. the closest you get are their early pop hits like high and dry and fake plastic trees. But going from coldplay to "everything in it's right place" is like visiting a whole other planet my friend...

Yeah, I agree with this. In fact, I heard an interview where Thom Yorke said that Kid A was an attempt to create something that other bands could NOT copy. I can only guess that he was lumping Coldplay into that list. But a song like "High and Dry" certainly sounds a lot like Coldplay music. Especially the low to high vocal progression on the chorus.

  • 2 weeks later...

If you want a Parachutes sounding band try Damien Rice's O or 9

For A Rush of Blood to The Head try Muse's Origin of Symmetry

For X and Y try Mew's And The Glass Handed Kites

And for A Viva La Vida Album try U2's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb

Yeah I have to agree with the posters here, you do have to work at understanding Radiohead, but once you get them you can't stop listening. Personally I'd perscribe 4 or 5 listens of OK Computer and/or In Rainbows, after that you can go onto discover the rest. Honestly though, Kid A is a bit much to take on board straight up, it's a little too weird if you don't get the angle they're coming from.

But the biggest Coldplay band that isn't coldplay is Keane, they've got some decent tunes but it's still a bit naff.

All those who had an OK Computer, raise you're hands.:P

To find similar, hmm.. Lastfm does a "coldplay radio" that runs samples from a lot of similar bands - I've done that, and it's a nice way to see what you like..

Going back, hmm.. let's see - there's the bands that influenced Coldplay - AHA was one, and possibly Limp Bizkit, Echo, maybe even Hendrix's guitar influences!

Pink Floyd has that slow motion feel..

I would even suggest Leslie Feist, as she's pretty experimental, and has that Doris Day feel to her music..;)
