Homepage which isn't mine, grrr !

Featured Replies

I've got always my favorite homepage which is neuf.fr and now when I open Internet Explorer there's another homepage (from time to time only that I have to change again) even though I have noted the same homepage (+ i have applied it, then ok). I don't know the reason why it may happen my homepage changes for another one I haven't choosen. It's annoying in addition as the unwanted website which comes up. When i had my old computer, I didn't have those problems. Thank's in advance for helping me.

Switch to Mozilla Firefox :shame:

Ditto.

In fact IE is crap full stop! Firefox rocks!!;)

Like I said the other day: download the program Ad-Aware, scan your PC with it and delete all spyware it found.

Optionally switch to Firefox after that - it spares you a lot of annyoing stuff like this.

IE is junk in itself!!

Once you've used Firefox you won't want to go near IE ever again!!;)

I've used Ad-Aware. There were 73 infected files. I couldn't remove them. Apparently, i couldn't remove them because they were not serious. I'll tell you whether it happens again. I hope it won't. :inquisitive:

wow 73... you don't have an anti-virus patricia?

i hope the problem is solved now :)

i agree with what mark, emma and felix (winnie, right?) have said: Mozilla Firefox is much better than IE, the only good thing that IE has is that it keeps everything you've seen on it... with the good and bad side it has.

I have already had Internet Explorer and no problem up to now. Besides, it's a new computer where i've installed everything from my old computer (that is on sale if anybody interested with a French keyboard). Weird !

How do you deinstall Ad-Aware now ? It can't figure out why i can't do it where all programs are installed whereas I have no problems with those I sometimes need to deinstall. Thank's in advance. It's a free software.

You have to install an "anti-Ad-Aware" program!!:P

NEWS :

I've finally got rid of the unwanted website that popped up on my screen, my homepage is back too. It occured because I've downloaded the new version of I.E. 7 as I was asked to do it online. I've accepted it but after downloading it I still had the old version of I.E. Instead, I caught spywares. From now on, I won't download a website without knowing where it comes from. Actually It was a trap. Now everything is settled to my relief ! :)

Did you by any chance possibly download an unknown Active X?

It may contain Spyware that is tampering with the memory in IE

This topic is two months old, perhaps you should check before you post

Tom, no I don't know what happened. I've got now my normal homepage but unwanted websites pop up several times a day. One of them has even junk music that suddenly shouts. I'm careful now. I should clean up my computer and reinstall everything which would take several hours. I've got an antivirus that I renew once a year. It can't help it though, not to mention the junk mail I receive everyday as I've registered at some employment websites but they directly go to the trash as I've set it that way. Nowadays, who doesn't receive junk mail, i'm just wondering, no one, right ?

Spambots like to take your email address off sites you're registered to

Same as MSN spambots, me and my friend kept getting them and we concluded it was from a site we were both signed up to and had our emails on link to

That's the reason why I don't authorize websites I've registered at to give employers my address in order not to receive at home junk mail. I think it's enough to receive junk email.:veryangry2: I intend to change my email address sooner or later to be in peace, but not now.

It sounded like you got some nasty spyware on your computer from somewhere which hijacked your browser.

The best way, sorry I forgotten your name, is to have a number of email accounts, one for personal and one for signing up to stuff.

I've got 2 email addresses. Junk mail doesn't bother me that much. It's rather to have unwanted websites that pop up which is annoying. I'll clean my computer one day when i've got time. I think it's the only solution to get rid of them. I've seen a software at a store to get rid of those websites but i don't intend to spend 50 or 60€ for it.

You don't have to pay.

Get Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D and CCleaner, run all 3 free programs and it does a good job at clearing the crap, change to Firefox (or get away from shItE) as it gives better security

Thank's ! A guy out there has already told me to take Ad-Aware. I think i'm going to clean up my computer one day. I don't dare to download stuff out of fear it gets worse. I mean it.

A good spring clean of your computer does wonders, even by looking though your installed programs list and getting rid of any you no longer use, checking to see what programs boot up at start etc.

  • Author

That's what i'll do. I don't know when though as it takes some time to reinstall everything.

Well if you find a program you can't remember the last time you used it, get rid of it.
