Comedy Film Recommendations Please?

Featured Replies

Hello Lifeforms!

I was wondering if some of you could recommend me some great comedy films? (But not American Pie or teen films like that please :D)

I like films like "Monty Python's Life Of Brian/ Holy Grail" , "Annie Hall" by Woody Allen, "Trading Places" by Whoever, "Trains, Planes & Auto-Mobiles" and all that kind of comedy.

Thanks! :D

Airplane - great, tacky, awesome movie .

Is it? Well I like older comedies better obviously. I really don't like all the teen rubbish that people seem to think are so funny :dozey: .

Aww I've saw that! Yeah that's good :D

An old comedy that I love is The Odd Couple starring Jack Lemmon & Walter Mathau.

From recent years, have you seen Stranger Than Fiction? It's a very quirky film, really funny but also very sweet and will make you think

It's great - and if you like it, you should check out Barefoot In The Park which is by the same writer, I think, and Some like It Hot, which also stars Jack Lemon (and of course, Marilyn Monroe)

Well, if you liked Airplane then you should like Naked Gun (or have you seen it already?)

Thanks alot! :D Yeah I've seen Naked Gun. They're great :D

If you haven't seen Caddyshack then you must see it. It's Bill Murray at his best.

I prefer Groundhog Day, but he's great in everything he does.

Scrooged is fantastic - but maybe you should wait until next Christmas to watch it...

yeah, caddyshack is great, just from one-liners alone. I also concur with red girl's recommendation of "stranger than fiction" It's very subtle, but a nice film nonetheless. Outside of that... "something about mary" and zoolander (both with Ben Stiller) are must-sees. Recently: "forgetting sarah marshall" is hysterical, but I don't think I've ever laughed harder than I did while watching the original " The Producers".

Oh and while we're still talking aboiut Bill Murray..."What about Bob" is also hilarious.

I prefer Groundhog Day, but he's great in everything he does.

I've never seen Groundhog Day.

Bill Murray is awesome. He's just so freaking funny.

I really liked Tropic Thunder last year - I'm a big Ben Stiller fan, although it might be a bit to "obvious" for your tastes, there's nothing subtle about it! But I don't like those teen comedies you mentioned (why would I, I'm old :P) and I liked Tropic Thunder so you may want to give it a go...

two things...

1. american pie is HILLARIOUS! and you know it! stop jumping on the bandwagon by slating it :P

2. The Ex - with zach braff, is awesome! oh and wedding crashers, another hit!
