Dark Coldplay

Featured Replies

Yep, coldplay is defined mainly as a soft rock band, with mellow ballads and lovely songs; but it is not like that all the time, Coldplay has some obscure tracks, Which one do you like the most? Or which one do you think they are?

Here's my list:

42

Well, a song begining like a calm piano ballad doesn't sound dark does it? Well maybe it's not heavy, but the chords, even Chris falsetto and the lyrics and the atmosphere around the song are dark, but the piano fades aways slowly to some strings and then perhaps the darkest sound coldplay has ever made kicks in, the bass, the drums and the guitars, especialy the guitars, being this one of the few songs were Buckland uses power chords.

Amsterdam

Wtf? Amsterdam? Yes amsterdam, a piano lead ballad with an epic ending. Even the fact that Chris' voice is just beautiful and lovely, the song is dark. Its obscure atmosphere is heard throughout the whole song, but especial when the rest of the bands starts playing. But what makes this song dark are the lyrics, despite being deep and touching... what a way to end an album.

Twisted Logic

Heck, not everyone likes this song, I myself love it, but it depends on my mood. The lyrics, kind of political or ecological, are very obscure, and don't forget the music, the four members do an amazing work.

A whisper

This is probably coldplay's darkest song, whether you like it or not, you have to recognize that Guy was amazing here, his heavy bass lines along with Jonny's chords make this song dark, very dark, and the lyrics and the way Chris sings it, listen to it in the night on bed, and try to get involved with the things Chris is saying, and you'll feel this song as it shoud be felt.

what about you?

PS: Yes, I do have better things to do, I'm just in a coldplay mood right now

PS2: I have drinked only water and a guayaba milkshake

I was thinking about it, but I was not sure since it was sort of more... uh, related to sex

oh yes :D I was not thinking of parachutes and older stuff

Coldplay are definitely dark is some of their songs. What about a rush of blood to the head. I reckon thats pretty dark

wow, this thread is made for me jk

heyy don't worry you are not a fool:D

ans i really like the way you explain the songs, and how you seek in every "corner" to find that darkness :)

i'm totally agree with you for 42 ( only the fact to call the song 42 is strange :stunned:)

and specially for a whisper, it differs a lot from all the other songs, i have not found a single common point between a whisper and the whole other songs, the music into it is very deep and the fact to repeat a whisper a lot of time makes it more deeper and everything which is deep is dark for me

ps: sorry for my poor english, i tried my best to be understood

it's unique

The darkest song ever is "Easy To Please".

The wind, the keyboards, the piano, the chord progression, the vocals, the lyrics.

Their darkest songs?

Animals

Spies

A Rush of Blood to the Head

Politik

Twisted Logic

42

Such A Rush

To name a few.

I am not sure about politik, the music may be a little agressive but it's not exaclty dark from my point of view

A lot of AROBTTH is dark imo, esp Politik. But it makes for an amazing opener.

I'd add Lhuna to that list. It's very...macabre, I think. Like a twisted sort of sexiness.

Surprised no one's mentioned Bigger Stronger, Pour Me, Animals, Brothers +Sisters or especially the blue-room version of Don't Panic! Almost want to include "idiot" as well up until the outro.

The obvious one's though are Spies, Politik, AROBTTH, maybe X&Y, Twisted Logic, Cemeteries of London, Yes!, and Violet Hill.

i absolutely love this song to death. this is a bit extreme but possibly the only reason I still hold on to this band. it's so genius.

as for dark and haunting:

other b-sides like I ran away, Bigger stronger..

and some parachutes/rush of blood songs like SPIES, Politik, etc.

Personally, I think their "dark" phase ended with Rush of blood album. I don't find anything on X&Y to be dark and haunting, alas. As for VLV, perhaps cemeteries.. that song is also genius.

I believe Violet Hill is pretty dark, it certainly has instrumental aspects of dark, moody music.

For some reason Spies seems dark to me.

Cemeteries of London

I guess it depends on your definition of "dark"

How You See The World is a little dark isn't it?

Definitely, forgot that to mention that, and murder of course. I don't personally consider "easy to please" all that dark, it's more melancholy.

  • Author

hehe how did I miss murder, animals and cemeteries of london?

I cant listen to Spies enough!! i think it is dark, and maybe even Trouble is a little dark.

Also...def. Animals and Murder, Luhna and Yes, (even if their sexy they can still be dark and god Chris's voice is so sexy in those two)

42, Cemetaries of London, Twisted Logic, violet hill maybe some, and the music vid. for God Put a Smile upon your face is dark i think

i Second the How You See the World Notion.
