I think the idea for using cafepress is because any profit goes to Oxfam, plus we already have a shop there. so each person would order individually from the shop, rather than one person having to pay hundreds of pounds out & hope to get all their money back.

Ok then...

I think telling that you can open a "shop" there as well doesn't help, does it?

I just thought that everybody in Europe can buy his own shirt, people in the US would order as well on their credit card / whatever but insert an European delivery address...

Do you know if there are more options when you own a shop on cafepress?

Like adjusting the size of the print?

More colours?

I saw on their site that shipping outside Europe isn't possible.

But we were able to organise the postcard thing - organising a shipping on our own shouldn't be a problem I think.

I'd offer to take part / care of it...

What do you think?

I like it!!

I don't want to annoy you all with too many questions and be too critical about cafepress...

BUT

Just regarding the Wembley gig - aren't there more people from Europe coming than the US?

All the shirts would have to cross the pond...

Seriously - I'd prefer to have a shirt the way I want it to be that wouldn't have to be sent around half the globe as well.

It's a "greener" way, price is the same, shirts would look better and profits / donations could go to Oxfam as well...

I'll try out how a general shirt could look like now!

not sure. think Ian is in contact with the person who set up the cafepress shop for us though.

At the moment I'm not happy about not having regular contact with Nadia. I think we may have to set up our own cafepress shop.

ok, so after discussion with Ian & some research, here's the latest position.

We're going to have to set up a new shop, and it will be a Jen/Ian account so we don't have to worry if we can't contact people. Which means I'll need lots of help in the t-shirt designer bit.

There are 2 current choices:

1) Cafepress

2) Spreadshirt.net

I've put together a comparison based on the info each site has available, and based on my understanding of it. Let me know what you think.

1. Cafepress

Variety:

They have the Custom Yellow T-Shirt in a dark yellow or a Custom Women's Light T-Shirt in a pale yellow.

Pricing:

Basic Price:

Both t-shirt prices start from $14.99/£10.32 (GBP).

CafePress.com base prices cover product creation, customer service, transaction management, returns/exchanges and online shop maintenance

Additional prices:

$3.00 extra to print on second side

2X-4X sizes surcharges of $3 per item

Shipping & any customs charges

So:

a small t-shirt printed on the front will cost $14.99 + shipping & customs.

a small t-shirt printed front & back will cost $17.99 + shipping & customs

an xxl t-shirt printed on the front will cost $17.99 + shipping & customs.

an xxl t-shirt printed front & back will cost $20.99 + shipping & customs.

These prices are based on us not earning any commission on the t-shirt.

Shop:

A basic shop is free & enables us to list over 80 products in a onepage shop.

It produces each item when ordered using print-on-demand technology

It handles all payment transactions including major credit cards

It ships products worldwide

Manages all returns/exchanges

Men's Classic T-Shirt in dark yellow - £12.60

Men’s contrast T-shirt in yellow with green neck & sleeve edges £13.90

Women’s classic girlie t-shirt in dark yellow £11.90

Women’s long sleeve in washed yellow (a paler yellow) £18.90

Womens distressed hoodie in washed yellow (a paler yellow) £26.90

Additional costs:

Design using plot-printing; single-colour £ 2.00

Text (1-5 lines) single-colour £ 2.00

+ shipping on top, varies by country & size of order. Can't order from US.

I can't work out from this how much one of the ideas we've had would cost.

This gives you an example: http://www.spreadshirt.net/en/GB/Service/Help-1328/categoryId/8/articleId/11

They also advise:

Every article you create is one of a kind: Your design will be placed as exactly as possible on the t-shirt according to your specifications. Because we print your shirt by hand, slight variations may occur. It is also possible that your design looks somewhat smaller or larger on the shirt than in the T-shirt Designer. This is due to the fact that the shirts in the Designer are almost always size M.

Shop:

A basic shop is free

They handle everything from collecting payment, producing and distributing the products through to after sales service.

I need to check it out but it may also be possible to have US shop at spreadshirt.com

Spreadshirt.com have the following for comparing basic prices in us$

Men's Heavyweight t-shirt - $12.90 (yellow)

there's no equivalent for - Men’s contrast T-shirt in yellow with green neck & sleeve edges

Female slimfit AA t-shirt - $16.90 (pale lemon)

Women's heavyweight t-shirt - $12.90 (banana - pale yellow)

they don't do men's or women's long sleeve t-shirts or hoodies.

What I love about spreadshirt is that when you choose a pre-set design, there's still the "personalise product" option.

(See here for example)

So we could put a general design there in the shop and still everybody can add his/her own stuff to it!

Like writing the username on the arm, or adding a picture or whatever.

Like this:

th_sideex.jpg

I couldn't find that option on the cafepress site.

Thanks!

I did a better version with the letters being cut out instead of being yellow:

cafepresspreview14.jpg

With that I'd prefer to have "Wembley '09" written in the Viva font as well.

Like here for example:

Is it possible for those that are going to concerts in other places get cool t-shirts like that?

Umm, ok, nobody throw any tomatoes at me:uhoh: but here's my 2cents...

With regards to cafepress vs spreadshirt, it's the same to me, as long as we can upload the main design that is agreed upon. The second site has a better brighter yellow, but really as it's not my fave color either is fine, and I'm not getting this shirt for fashion purposes anyway:P. I think even if it were a light yellow, when it's close to 100ppl (isn't that the number now?)in front row, or as close as we'll be able to get even in smaller groups, it's gonna stand out and be noticed. And that's the point, right???

The whole thing with spreadshirt not delivering to the US, that kinda sucks. I know there are a lot more people going to show from Europe of course, but there are quite a few of us U.S. peeps(and I think others from other countries too, so international delivery would be a plus). While I'd have no problem having it delivered to Europe <coughCarlacough>, I'm not sure that everyone has an "European-Coldplayer buddy." So that would be a bit more difficult for some, but I'm sure that there could be a way around that, so it's not a huuuge deal, but I wanted to raise the issue anyway.

The thing that I really want to bring up, though, is dropping the "Wembley 09" from the design.:( I thought the whole point of these shirts, how the whole thing started, was that it was supposed to be for the big "Coldplayers' queue party" for the Sept 19th Wembley show:huh:. I thought we started talking about all wearing the same shirts, to stand out as a group, since we're all gonna try and be together(as much as possible), for this specific show, right???:uhoh: Now it's becoming a general Viva La Vida tour shirt??? Aren't the official ones already for that purpose? And if it's a coldplaying.com shirt, aren't there the ones from CCC already?

I guess a solution would be to design ones with "Wemblely 09" for that gig, and ones without that for everyone else. But I kinda think that takes away from the "special-ness"(I know I just invented a word!) of the shirts & the whole idea of them. And, so far, the show on the 19th is the last one for the tour, so it'd be really cool to commemorate that, and this huge Coldplayers meet-up, with something different from other shows, and a bunch of us representing coldplaying with these tshirts would be great:).[/rant]

(sorry this was so long)

WOW! A rant from Noelia!:stunned: :P

I think - someone correct me if I'm wrong - that the shirt without "Wembley 09" was purely for others wanting a Viva tour shirt for the non-Wembley shows coming up.

Is that right?:inquisitive:

 for Noelia

Jen found out about spreadshirt.com, the US site!

So Jen and Ian would end up having 2 shops if they choose it - one for Europe, one for rest of the world!

Great for saving shipping costs and the environment in my opinion.

And I really love the spreadshirt site.

A friend actually recommended it to me when I told him that a cafepress shirt would have to be shipped from the US.

I prefer the intense shade of yellow they have, not the pale one that cafepress has.

Intense yellow is easier to spot and more attention-attracting (AND we could all personalise it as well).

So many people will see us wearing the shirts who probably never heard of coldplaying - having the best appearance to "advertise" this forum should be a point of consideration as well in my opinion.

Ok, now I def. sound like I work for them :laugh3:

And the second part... well, I think it's the language barrier...

I don't know if I understood you correctly.

Do you mean there should only be a shirt for the Wembley gig and not for others?

Umm, ok, nobody throw any tomatoes at me:uhoh: but here's my 2cents...

well problem solved right? ;)

for the second part, I think what cooky means is that a lot of people have been asking if these shirts can be used for other stadium gigs also by replacing the 'wembley '09' with I dunno 'parc de princes '09' for example.. though off course there is no law against that she would (and I would too) prefer it if the wembley shirt would become a sort of 'limited edition' T-shirt, if it were worn throughout the entire stadium tour, it would loose that unique-ness and become just another viva shirt..

maybe a simple solution to this is if people really wanted a 'parc de princes' limited t-shirt also, they could order it in a differnt colour (violet?) so it wouldn't shadow over the wembley shine? okay that;s it I have to run to work now...

discuss :P

heading back into the cafepress vs spreadshirt debate, I have little more to add to that later, but as I'm heading out soon couldn't describe it very well in the time I have. I'll just add that it is going to be a permanent shop going forward.

As for the Wembley shirts, they are indeed a special ltd edition one off, not because its Wembley but because its the gig that most people are going to & is therefore a special, unique, one-off, unlikely to be repeated because of the logistics, official Coldplaying meet-up. Ian & I wouldn't even be going if we hadn't seen how many Coldplayers were signing up that morning & started to feel that we might miss out on something awesome. We had already decided we could only afford LCCC, but changed our minds last minute as we watched you guys in the thread.

So as far as I'm concerned, the Coldplaying shop would have a Wembley '09 shirt, and one other (viva La vida '09 or something similar with a similar design but non-specific as to date)

I think we should keep the yellow shirts for Wembley 09 b/c it is a unique meetup with Coldplaying.com and last show of the tour. Other colors could be offered for others if you wanted to do that. But originally, this was an idea for the Coldplaying.com Wembley goers am I not right? So we could stand out from the massive crowd and find each other in the queues. Opening up for anyone would just ruin the whole original idea that was started. Just my opinion.

It would be prudent of us to make more t-shirts available in different colours after the concerts, mainly for those who went to Wembley but haven't found us yet. As far as I am aware the only Wembley merchandise we will be producing before September is the yellow Coldplaying tee of which ever designs get chosen :)

I like the idea of creating other non-wembley designs for a permanent shop though, it will help fund the site in the future :)

We’re setting up a new, permanent, Coldplaying shop, of which the Wembley designs will be the first items. The account will be held by Jen/Ian so that we don’t have to worry about being able to contact the account holder whenever we need. Whichever option we go with, I’ll be needing lots of help setting it up/designing the t-shirts etc.

I’m going to set up a poll for this thread, so we can canvas your thoughts. Some of the info is the same, but I've tried to pull it all together into 1 post for the purposes of directing people to the discussion.

There are 2 current choices:

1) Cafepress (one site based in US, all orders coming from US)

2) Spreadshirt.net/Spreadshirt.com (we’ll have to have two sites, one in US & one in UK. US doesn’t have as wide a range of product as the UK.)

I've put together a comparison based on the info each site has available, and based on my understanding of it. All prices are the basic price with no commission on top, so that’s no money to charity or to fund Coldplaying. Please let me know what you think.

As for the shirt design, my personal opinion is, that it should read 'Wembley 09' instead of 'Sept 19th' or something like this.

Surely the majority goes to the gig on saturday but I for example have also tickets for the 18th and why don't wear the same T-Shirt both nights? :)

Jen, can you please add that there are more options on spreadshirt?

Beginning with adjustment of the size of the print to a "personalise" option for each customer to add something personal like the board name?

The options on cafepress are really poor compared to spreadshirt.

When you add a design on spreadshirt there are far more and better editing features!!!

Spreadshirt also offer the availability to personalise your order so you can potentially add your screen name on, this may well cost you extra.

the personalise option is already mentioned in the post above.

and just for the record, I haven't voted yet, because i want to give people a chance to decide for themselves. which is why I also haven't said much about either option, just tried to compare them.

the poll is up for 7 days, and will automatically close then.
