I like it, I think that is really cool.

Sounds easy enough the install in the average car garage, so just park and charge overnight, you're ready to go 1st thing in the morning! Clean, neat, and no fuss - I think credit goes to the Japanese for making the electric car easier to refuel than a gas car!

PS - wonder if this can be applied to toys as well?

- maybe to car racing sets, toys need to keep pace with the technology too, gets us started early with the latest greatest technologies! Imagine a racing set where there's no electric feed on the track, just pull over a charging pad, let your car pick up the good vibrations from the electromagnet below, and you then pull out of the pit stop, ready for racing action! I'd go for that!

So green, it's growing moss on top, would you say?:laugh3: Reminds me of my old Toyota, when the rear axle rusted out so badly, the left rear wheel and tire were dragging on the well. Then the tire blew:stunned:, and something had to be done!

Hm, front right-hand suspension being in many pieces, a bushing needing replacement? Trying to picture a suspension bushing.. oh, you must mean a rubber bushing then? Well, just take a piece of rubber from a tire and cut a new one, or make one out of some thick rubber hose. Your car will lovingly accept any part you offer it. ;)

The part has come, just needs fitting.

And my friendly local mechanic has gone on holiday and is back on Tuesday.

Nissan LEAF Will Feature Wireless Charging Technology

by Beth Buczynski - November 30, 2011 - 5:19 pm

The Nissan LEAF made history last year when it hit the market as one of the most affordable all-electric vehicles. Since then, Nissan has continued to make headlines by pledging to install free quick charging stations all over the world.

Now, the LEAF is jumping out ahead of the competition again by becoming the first electric car in the world to feature wireless charging technology.

Today at the Tokyo Motor Show, Nissan unveiled a flat floor unit that will enable LEAF owners to fully charge their battery without installing a charging system or searching for an extension cord. The pad could be placed in a garage or driveway, or in a parking lot. By simply parking over the charging pad, sensors on the bottom of the LEAF trigger an electromagnet that draws electricity from the car’s recharging coil.

Nissan says the wireless charging will not be effected by various weather conditions or weather changes. The charging time does not change either, which presently is eight hours.

The electromagnet induction process is the same as technology used in cordless phones and toothbrushes, and is considered safe as it transmits at a low three to six watts.

The company says it’s wireless charging technology will be available in Leafs starting 2013. Unfortunately, if you’ve already purchased a LEAF, you may still have to deal with cords and outlets, as the technology will not be available as a retrofit.

So Nissan are using the same wireless induction system that Rolls Royce did for it's electric concept :P

In future, car-parks will have induction pads built into the floor so when an electric car parks up it gets recharged

> Braun Toothbrushes came first (early 1990's).:P While not automotive, they sure give your gums a workout, and the inductive charging is pretty cool, letting you race around the track with your organic engines!:laugh3: Organic Engines

>The first inductive charging system for cars came out in 1998 (Magne Charge, developed by Hughes Electronics for GM),

& was used by several types of electric vehicles including the EV1, and from what I gather was a sort of paddle you inserted into a slot in the car. Inductive charging - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Then came the car crusher for the EV1's, and the California Air Resources Board decided to go with the "Avcon" conductive interface during the 90's/ 00's era of the electric car.

I think credit can be given to MIT's wireless project and a team led by Marin Soljacic (i believe, a Czech!:hat:), and this team in 2006 discovered an efficient way to transfer power between coils separated by a few meters, extending the distance between by adding resonance to the equation, via an apparatus using some sort of curved coils and capacitive plates. Perhaps useful for levitation as well!.

Since then, several companies have developed charging plates for inductive charging, including Rolls, but not limited to just them!;) (granted I would imagine they have the very best one though.)

And my friendly local mechanic has gone on holiday and is back on Tuesday.

I've heard of banker's holidays, but mechanic's holidays, now that's a new twist!:laugh3:

Well everyone needs a break, unfortunately your car's break happened at the wrong time - sorry to hear that David. But when you're without auto, there's always pedal power! ;) Organic Engines to the rescue!!:cyclist:

I tested my car today (I drove a long distance). It gets about 42MPG on the highway! :smug:

I've got a replacement car anyhow :P (a 2010 fiesta)

Hopefully my "chipped" car will be back on the road soon. Damn police chipping my car :P

> Yay!! It's Fiesta time for New Years!!:sunny::jester::sombrero::jester::sunny:

> Chipped by the police? Pardon moi? :inquisitive: I knew a stunt driver for the TV series Chips, is that what you mean?:P Or did they bump into you?:laugh3:

Every idea is hatched from an egg of though, an incubator is essential to follow a unique perspective. So winter is ideal for thinking and tinkering, combining ideas, blending things to create new forms. Green those thoughts, be creative and free of obstacles in the mind, let your dreams flow into new streams of though in this new year, the year of the Mayan rebirth! Drink that chocolate, put on that wild headdress:jester: And have~~~Visions~~~

When it was owned by the police, they played with the brain to give more power (110 horsey instead of 100) :P

Ah, I see - a performance tweaking of the chip. ;) More horses than anyone needs, imagine turning a corner with 55 draft horses pulling?! That's a lot of muscle. Well, be gentle on the reins David, more smiles per mile, less oats!:P

The fiesta is good, but it's slower to react (smalller engine 1.4 v 1.9 with less horsepower & torques).

> Ah, if it's fast response you want, add some supercapacitors and an electric motor, that should make it lightning fast in response time!

A fiesta is more festive!:sombrero:

I would consider it as my next car but for 1 big problem, due to the roof at the back, you can't see much out of the back windscreen

> hm, yes, some vehicles are like that - poor rear vision and side vision issues, I drove a Cadillac recently which didn't allow for easy checking of the blind spot, and that can be a problem when changing lanes!

>Perhaps you could mount a camera in back and use a computer & screen in front to provide a view electronically of what's in back of the vehicle? It seems that many newer vehicles have problems with not allowing the driver to see to the sides or behind the vehicle..

> Or, replace the upper half of the vehicle with clear plexiglass! Guaranteeing a 360 degree view. ;)

Or make sure I have the rear parking sensors fitted :P

put the pedal to the metal

Or make sure I have the rear parking sensors fitted :P

They make them for a fiesta?:stunned: If it can be obtained, that sounds like a great idea! ;)

I keep gravitating back towards the original concept of the automobile - light and simple motorized transportation, with optional pedal power. Less fuss to maintain, add a little motor and a PV panel, some lithium batteries, and I'm happy as a clam.

...The only problem is, all those other drivers on the road!:laugh3:

They do make them for the Fiesta, they have rear parking sensors for every car these days.

Get yourself a Sinclair C5 Chuck :P

Or one of these: http://www.sinclairzx.com/spec-x-1.html

I did not know that! Thanks for edifying me.;)

Larry had a Timex-Sinclair, aha, so it's by the same maker, I see! Certainly light and elegant in design then, will consider that as an option - thanks David. I might make my own cycle-car though - from two bicycles, some tubing, make a shell, seats from another car; pedal and electric optional, simple yet sufficient to do the job. Or, if I'm too busy, I'll order this one!:)
