LP5 Discussion Thread[Updates in First Post]

I don't understand why it wouldn't be out before the end of the year. After reading Roadie #42's recent blogs it seems like the only things left is to choose which songs to put on the album and then refine the songs a bit. That can't take too long right? I mean, there's still about 6 months left of the year.

That's a great point. I agree with you.

I'm guessing there's more to it than that :dozey:

There is more to it, the most important bit...recording the songs!

And that can be VERY time consuming!

Crosses fingers for a release this year! :D

AHHHH!

I've just clicked on the MTV website for the article and the bit about the album not coming out this year has been deleted, instead it has been replaced with :

Though a spokesperson for the band could not be reached for comment at press time, Coldplay have said they're aiming to have the new, yet-untitled album in stores by Christmas.

I want it now but dont rush it! If their music sounds better with the wait then I wanna wait for it.

thanks for the info! Is the EMI press release that they mentioned knocking about anywhere?

Couldn't find the original, but the site hosts that regularly receive direct primary information from the Australian music labels themselves wrote this to me:

Hey Alex,

The news is on their official website, but this was the press release from EMI;

"15 June 2010

UK mega-band Coldplay have reported their fifth album is almost finished with plans to release it by the end of the year.

The Grammy Award-winning four-piece recently spent two months in an abandoned church working on the follow-up to 2008’s Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, which spent four weeks at #1 on the ARIA Album charts.

They’ve taken the last fortnight off but re-enter the studio this week to complete it. The band have remain tight-lipped about the new songs, but they’ve let their mysterious ‘Roadie #42’ do the talking for them on a recent blog post on coldplay.com.

The blogger wrote: "The songs haven't assumed their final beautiful form yet but they're a very long way from their skin and bones phase. What's impossible not to conclude is that they have some killer tunes."

He also revealed Viva producer Brian Eno is once again working with the band. The record is rumoured for a release just before Christmas. "

nooo! I don't wanna have to wait!! D: Well it better be good enough to live up to the 3-year separation. haven't all their albums except X&Y and A Rush of Blood to the Head been 2 years apart?

There was three years between X&Y and Viva, so only Parachutes and AROBTTH were 2 years apart.

tricky MTV!

Whatever...if this actually gets released in time for christmas, BEST COLDPLAY XMAS GIFT EVER.

It'll be one of the best christmas's in awhile for me lol...they seem to get a bit more boring the older I get :D:P

if they changed dates like that, it just shows that the boys really don't know when they gonna finish it.... My bet is for 2011.

Nah, didn't Viva come out '07 and X&Y was '05??

Could be wrong but I believe Viva La Vida came out in 2008

seemms like late 2010 will be

Late 2010 makes sense financially too. The christmas period is always more fruitful from a physical CD sales perspective. EMI will really be pushing for it to be released then so that they can maximise sales - something they desperately need with all the financial trouble they're in.

I guess it's just up to Coldplay making an effort to finish it before it would get mixed in September/October. Allow time for pressing, and yeah December is a possibility. Surely they have enough time.

Yeah it did. June 2008

I might be alone in wanting a really dark album. I absolutely love the epicness sound of Politik, and the haunting melodies of Amsterdam. I'd love for them to make more songs like that.

But, whatever they put out I'm looking forward to. Whether it's like any of the previous 4 albums, or something new entirely, I'm sure I'll love it :)

If the album is coming out around christmas, when can we expect the first single? I guess that would be around October/November since Violet Hill was launched as the firste single of VLVODAAF a few months before the release of the album.

Thoughts? ;)

I can guarantee you that LP5 is going to be something completely else then VLVODAAHF ;), So I think that Spanish Rain is never going to be released officialy.

LP5 - What's in a plan?

This entry has been moved to the Coldplay section as a new thread.

I'm not ceretain that this is the right thread for this, but here goes:

What we know, and have been speculating and making wishes about concerning LP5 is, naturally, the creative process involved and the music's production. How do these guys do it? What will it sound like? Wonderfully exciting stuff for a fan like me.

But what I'm interested in learning about at the moment is the nuts and bolts and the especially the timing required in rolling out an album once the artist, producer and guest artists are finished in the studio. So here are some questions along these lines, for discussion and my enlightenment:

1. At what point does a visual concept (the logos, albumn art, website, video themes etc.) get decided?

2. When is the release date decided? When is it announed? How far in advance of the release date is the manufacture of LP's and CD's arranged and done?

3. When is it decided that a tour will happen, and what it will be like? How are cities and venues chosen? Why in that order? When are suppporting artists booked?

4. At what point does video production enter the planning?

5. How and when are interviews and guest spots on radio and TV in suppport of the album and tour planned?

6. In all these processes, the band is clearly involved, but beyond them, who does what? What is the role of the band's Manager, the record company?

In other industires, I know, Project Managers have complex charts that detail all the above and much more. There are unnumerable tasks involved, but I'm mostly interested in the timing and approximate order of them in the music industry. Also, if you know of any literature or other media that might educate me, please let me know.

Thanks all.
