Chords are F#m, D, A x3 then Esus2 and E Chris plays the chords like this F#m......D.......A......Esus2----E----- ---0------0------0-------0--------0----- ---0------0------0-------0--------0--- ---2-----11-----6-------2--------1----- ---4-----12-----7-------2--------2----- ---4-----12-----7-------2--------2----- ---2-----10-----5-------0--------0----- ^I think Chris sometimes plays those last two at the 12th fret, like in the rough cut video. No it's 'get the sound you wan't' If you can play notes at the 10th fret and some at the 1st at the same moment.... That's what some tunings in some songs are doing. As you can see, in a few Coldplay songs. the higher strings keeps repeating without changing. AND THAT SOUNDS GREAT! That's soo hard to find when writing songs, the perfect chords and rhythms as exact as you wan't.. Chris can do that and if you can that.. you are an truly guitar hero! In no two songs on VLV does Chris play the same chords on guitar. Same with X&y (though he hardly played any guitar on that album). The only exceptions I see are an E7 chord in both Shiver and Yellow and a couple similar chord shapes (ignoring the capo) on Green Eyes and AROBTTH. So I'm not sure what you mean. I think also, that if alternative tunings in this case make it a tad easier for Chris to play the song, then this is probably a good thing. The bloke has about a-bazillion things on his brain even during one song. So if he can minimize what he is playing whilst singing good on him. It might not go down to well with the whole ...band aspect. What Chris plays compliments the whole band, as do what they all play. Which is why they sound amazing as a unit. Fin. So it is tunned different because i have seen a lot of videos of violet hill and the chords are completly different from the standard tuning version.
