National Day of Silence

it remove me to here.com

what's that suppoused to be (the national day of silence)?

Its about expressing sympathy for abuse against gay-lesb-bi-couples. A friend of mine once came to class with his mouth shut handing out pamphlets. I honestly thing the whole thing is stupid and pointless. It doesn't change anything, it just makes people feel good about themselves for doing nothing. Wouldn't be more practical to actually say something about the issue than to walk around with your mouth taped shut all day?

the pamphlet asked "what are you gonna do about this?"

Well, I haven't beaten up any homos lately, so not much as far as I can see.

I agree with this. I honestly don't see how not talking will help resolve the issue. It's rather impractical.

On that note, however, I do admire their intent, and I respect them for their decision. I don't think anyone should be persecuted, and the fact that this is even an issue at all saddens me.

Most people I know are doing it just beause they think it's cool/their liberal/gay friends are doing it. None of them are actually getting out there and doing anything. I'm still debating whether I'll do it or not. It seems sort of silly. :/ A lot of them act like they're being really super-rebelous too, even though a lot of people are actually doing it. I think a lot of them are just trying to satisfy their inner teenager revolutionary, or some such.

Yeah one of my friends is trying to get everybody to do it but i agree. being silent doesnt help anything. if you see somebody being harassed because theyre gay/lesbian/bi you should say something, not tape your mouth shut. i am glad theyre trying to help but i just dont think its the best way... so im not doing it. besides, there is no way i could go a whole day without talking!

I'm still bruised up from the last time you roughed me up with your hooligan friends. :(

And tacky silence is obviously the solution!

This is an interesting thing... I wonder what the longest everyone has gone without talking?

A few years ago I made it 9 days straight. The funny thing is, I didn't really miss it as much as I would have expected. I really don't talk too much in general.

I've gone a full weekend just because I never ran into anybody to talk to. I'd like to try sometime, same way I'd like to see how long I can go without sleeping. But there never seems to be an appropriate time to try, and I'm sure it gets old after day 1.

Going without sleeping is just torture. It wouldn't be fun for me, but pointing to a sign that says "I'm trying to see how long I can go without talking." is far more fun!

Probably 90 years or something. :P

I'd like to see how long I can go without sleeping.

During a classmate's speech (which was about sleep and how it affects the body), she told a tale of a DJ who went 8 days without sleeping. He eventually went mad and ran out of the building naked, saying he was on fire. o_O Sleep deprivation can do that to you.

...So yeah. :\

I know that after a week you can do serious damage to your body. Not long after that you're ask of dying. Considering how you have to resort to extreme means to keep yourself awake, it must be torturous.

Nick, is that a Nieman Marcus advert in your avatar? lol, you dweeb! :D

I like to beat up the people who do tape their mouths shut.

Not because I have a problem with gays or anything. It's just fun because with their mouths taped shut they can't cry out for help when I'm kicking their ass.

Is that what it was?

I had a bunch of students with tape on their mouths and not answering my questions.

I was wondering what the hell was going on!

Next time you should say "anyone who does not participate gets an F, no exceptions"

haha that'll mess with em good

This would work better as a protest about prejudices people hold against mute people.

I had a neighbor who had a mute wife, and she was the bomb. She could read our lips from across the street. Oh wait, that's deaf.
