The lounge is now officially.. gay

BECAUSE a large portion of the population (including me) use the word to define something.. dumb.... which of course has nothing to do with homosexuals.

Just like the word means "happy" as well, people have added the other definition ;)

So you fail to recognise that people use the word gay to mean something bad because it stems from people actually thinking it is bad/dumb to be gay? You seriously don't see the link? Ffs.

lol you guys calm down, she didn't mean anything bad by it. I don't think you're teaching her a lesson by getting mad at her about the thread title. Put your energy and effort somewhere else.

I agree with u 100%...

.i mean i know alot of people who use the word gay when they dont like something for example..."its gay that i have to wake up early on Saturday"...and who have nothing against gay marriage or gay people so its stupid to gang up on her....

@ A RUSH OF VIDA, i do that all the time...

Example:

someone: We have a test on tuesday

Me: that's gay!!

Someone else: did you hear we lost the game last night??!

Me: that's gay!!

someone else else: she won't let us use our books...

Me: that's gay!!

i do that all the time...

You do it all the time, so it must be ok. Right.

It's not stupid. It's language, words - how we communicate with each other. I'm astounded that people here do use that word, when it's roots are so bleeding and fucking obvious.

'Gay' now means 'rubbish' as BBC clears Moyles

Published Date: 06 June 2006

THE word "gay" now means "lame" or "rubbish" among young people and need not be offensive to homosexuals, the BBC Board of Governors has ruled.

A complaint against Radio 1 presenter Chris Moyles after he dismissed a ring tone by saying: "I don't want that one, it's gay," was rejected by a committee of the Board of Governors.

The word "gay", in addition to being used to mean "homosexual" or "carefree", was often now used to mean "lame" or "rubbish", the committee said in a ruling.

This is widespread current usage of the word among young people, the committee said.

On Radio 1's flagship Breakfast Show, it said, the presenter would have been using expressions or words which the listeners used themselves. "The committee acknowledged that this use of the word 'gay' could cause offence to some listeners.

"However, the committee believed that Chris Moyles, when using the word, had meant no offence to gay people.

"He was not being homophobic in his use of the word."

But the committee added that it would be "advisable" to think more carefully about using the word "gay" in its derogatory sense in the future, given the multiple meanings of the word and the potential to cause "unintended offence".

The committee also dismissed two other complaints from the same man that it had failed to take abusive comments about gay men by a rapper on Jo Whiley's Radio 1 show seriously and that a sketch on the Catherine Tate show about a gay man was offensive.

Fixed, you need to calm down... i don't, whatever... im not gonna argue this with a perfect stranger who doesn't get it that we don't mean it in an offensive way... my gosh... get that through your mind. you guys are so thick about stuff like this...

you're being dumb.

You do it all the time, so it must be ok. Right.

no one is saying its ok to say it but its life...its something that people are saying and probably always are....but what i think most of us are saying or atleast i am is that why get so worked up over it and start getting mad and shit when she didnt mean anything by it so its stupid argueing about it.....

no idea if that made sense haha
