shipoffools
Seriously, there's no one else on here who likes Stephen King!?! :shocked2:
WV Gal
I like his books. I think my favorite is The Shining, though Bag of Bones is also a good one. I gotta say, I hate it when they make his books into movies because they never truly keep the film with the book. I think Carrie was the only major film that was at least close to the book. Now, the TV version of The Shining was more with the book and, IMO, better than the one by Stanley Kubriak.

I forgot about that one. :shocked2: I liked it, too. It was so sad when the mother was killed at the end, though. I agree, although I thought The Green Mile and The Mist were also pretty faithful to the book versions, too. I think the biggest messup I've seen so far was the movie version of Christine. The book had so much depth and feeling, it really was more than a horror tale. And the movie was just some teen-slasher flick that really left out some of the best bits. I let my friend borrow the book, which costed about $28, and she ruined it. I would love to read it again. I have never seen The Green Mile and The Mist. I'm not much of a movie watcher even though I was told I should watch them. As for the teen-slasher flick, well, that is what Stephen King complains about when it comes to his books being made into movies. They lose all the substance that the book has. I am about to read The Cell. I hope it's good book. BTW...I was also at the Riverbend concert. Actually, I was part of Oxfam.
Darlene_Ihnfsa
i read misery. and i watched the dead zone (serie) but that won't count as have read the book, right? misery really scare me, well writen, but oh my just the idea is so scary, that woman was so mad with him. :stunned: is a shame to reckon that, but i think i've watched most films than books i've read. and i know i should read the books because books are always better. rose red, i enjoyed it. WV Gal
rose red, i enjoyed it. I liked Rose Red too, but I felt like I was missing something. I don't know if it was how the TV movie was edited or what but I felt at little lost.

You should check your local library. Mine always seems to have a copy of Bag Of Bones on the shelf. I have never seen The Green Mile and The Mist. The Green Mile was one of the best book to movie adaptions I've ever seen. The Mist, too. They both played out on the screen the same way that I imagined the scenes when I read them. Yeah, Stephen King doesn't like a lot of his movies. I'm considering renting IT (since I'm enjoying that book so much), but I'm not sure if I should. I don't want my experience of the book tainted by a bad movie. Cell is a great book, one of Stephen King's best. I highly recommend it. :) Oh cool, where were you seated? I had lawn seats, btw, so I was way in the back.

Some people say that the It was not a bad TV movie, though I heard that The Stand was the better TV movie and book. Well, I worked for Oxfam and our seats were on the lawn. By the time we got to the lawn it was so crowded that I can not tell you exactly were I and the others were sitting at.
Cobalt
I've read the Dead Zone which was really good
Susan13
The Stand is awesome. You could kill somebody with hitting them over the head with the hardcover 1,115 pages. After reading it, it will make you freak out when you catch a cold.
bellynelly
The Green Mile and Pet Semetary, I have actually seen more of the tv mini series and movies than red the books.
I Bloom Blaum
I've read The Shining, It, The Stand and Misery. Great books! The Stand was by far my favourite. I freaked out when I caught a cold after reading it as well, Susan. xDD! Apparently It was a terrible movie. I'm too scared to rent it, myself, as I'm scared it will ruin my love for the book... :S Oh, I've also seen the movie of The Mist, but I haven't read the book. The movie was fantastic though, so I can't wait to get my hands on the novel!
Ann_9
I have started reading Stephen King's novel not long time ago so I only have read Carrie, Firestarter, The Green Mile ( which is my favourite) , Dolores Claiborne and Cycle of the Werewolf which was sooo boring for me. Now I'm trying to read Storm of the Century but it's really terrifying and I guess I have to stop reading it ;D.
Pseudonym
Stephen King has fans? Get out. I do actually like a few of his stories, namely Misery and Cujo. I found IT to be a dreadful waste of my time.
