*Sarah*
tonight. maybe. or maybe not. the vet's coming to our house at 6 pm and well... everything seems to be ready. and everyone except me... because i can't figure out how to cope with it. this might easily be the worst thing that has ever happened to me. we've had him for almost 14 years now. has this happened to you? and how long did it take until you could get on with life as if nothing happend? i'm sort of scared... :(
Jay Niguez
Yea, my dog has put to sleep when I was 12 years old. :( She came to the family, shortly after my birth, I was really sad. Idk how long did it take to be "normal" again. :( Ich wünsche dir alles Gute und viel Kraft.
Ms Magpie
I'm sorry, Sarah. :( But yeah, it has happened to me. We had a cat since I was 1 or 2 years old and had to be put to sleep 4 or 5 years later because of cancer. I was very sad, but I moved on pretty quickly. mc_squared
Sad news. I've never had a pet so I have no idea what it's like.
Empily
Thats exactly what happened to me when i was 14. I had had my dog Rosie every since I was 3 years old. She was diagnosed with some heart condition and one day I came downstairs and she couldn't even stand up so mum and dad took her to the vets, but there was nothing they could do about it. Best u Can
I'm sorry sarah :( I've lost several pets, but the hardest was the first dog my family had (after I was born) Recently we had a cat put down..... but to me a dog is something different..... There really is no secret coping mechanism. With another puppy we had that was hit by a car, the only thing I could do was tell myself not to cry, and I didn't... But I've learned that that isn't coping. Just let your feelings tell you how to feel. It helps me to forget when you are happy, and to remember when you are sad. Recently I've had to cope with someone who left me, in the same way. Don't try to push back your feelings, good or bad. The first day or two will be bad for a while. Then something will make you laugh, hopefully.

i ate the lotus
aww that's really sad, Sarah. i'm one of those people who'll never understand how putting someone to sleep could be "for the better". especially if you've had him for 14 years. that's a lot, that's like a member of your family dying. i honestly still can not get over the death of my cat a year ago. she fell out the window and hit some metal rail on the ground, and i heard it happening, i ran downstairs, she was still alive, but she died on the way to the vet hospital. i could not stop crying for weeks and i still get that horrible horrible feeling inside now and then. and i can not believe myself i took it so hard, cause it's "just a cat". probably if i had just found out she had died, instead of being there and seeing it all happen, would be different. but for some it's quite easy. well, depends on the person really. i've had people telling me about their cats falling out the window or getting hit by a car, and they don't seem to care too much, they just get another one. i don't want to even start thinking about my dog dying, he's 12 now, but he's still quite young looking and chipper. i am really sorry to hear about your dog.. :(
parachutes_
 Yes, it has happened to me. My cat which had been there for me since I was born. I don't remember me crying but it hurt. A lot. It still does and I miss him.

Guest howyousawtheworld
I am so sorry to hear that Sarah. What matters is that you will always have memories of your dog. Like they say it's better to have loved and lost than to never have loved something at all.
shipoffools
It's so hard having to do this. Losing a pet under any circumstances is hard. I'm so sorry.
Gitta Rensolo
awwww Sarah, das tut mir echt leid. We never had a dog or a cat, only those small pets like hamsters and guinea pigs. But it must be so hard for you if an animal like a dog dies, because they often are like family members....I can imagine that some things change for the whole family....you have to go out with the dog, etc...well, I hope you find a good way to cope with it, Sarah.
*Sarah*
aww that's really sad, Sarah. i'm one of those people who'll never understand how putting someone to sleep could be "for the better". especially if you've had him for 14 years. that's a lot, that's like a member of your family dying. well, we (my whole family) always said that putting basti (our dog, obviously) to sleep would of course be the very last resort. but somehow we always knew it would happen one day, i never thought he would die while he is asleep, for example. i can understand why you don't believe that it is "for the better" - but let me tell you that there are cases when it definitely is. basti has a very weak heart by now and there might be water in his lungs. thus, he has had huge trouble breathing for the last couple of days. plus, there's been something in his stomach for several months now. the vet says it's water, but we aren't sure anymore, maybe it's sth worse. but the thing is, he has simply lost all his weight by now, you can see every bone and it looks horrible - but his stomach is like a huge and heavy balloon. that's what makes moving really difficult for him. so, when i was with him last night - i spent over three hours lying next to him, to the point were we both fell asleep - and i heard him breathing and whining, i realized for the first time ever, that it definitely is time for him to go. if not today (well, we still don't know what the vet's gonna say), then really, really soon. i'm really sorry about what happened to your cat, it sounds horrible  thanks for all your replies, guys! i ate the lotus
^ oh, no, no, Sarah, by no means I was referring or even blaming you, I hope it didn't seem as if I was! if it is time for Basti, it is, sadly, but there's not much you can do. 14 years is a lot for a dog and I'm sure he had a great life! Julie
Omg that's so horrible to hear! :( It happened twice with me, but I was younger so it didn't bother me much. But now when I think about it, it makes me really sad. I remember that day my mom cried so much and it took her a couple of months to get over it. But i'm deeply sorry
Petit Prince
That's sad news.:( We had to put our first dog down when I was 15. He was suffering from a heart disease and he he almost lost his eye sight before he died. I grew up with this dog and he meant the world to me. I accompanied my mum to the vets and I held my dog when he was put down. It took me a weeks to get over it. Coming home just wasn't the same without him being there. I guess it was the right decision though as he was suffering for a long time.

earth to raven
awww:( just recently my friend(basically family, my mum's boyfriend's sister) lost her dog cause her father ran her over and she wasnt too old, but really frail cause he ran her over when she was a pup. wull, he was freaking out and rosey was freaking out and all this craziness. also, same day, my other friend's cat got mauled by the neighbor dog. it snapped her neck so she was paralyzed and they put her down. and a while ago my cousin's dog got bit by a snake so he was all pamper and stuff so their other dog was jealous. well, one day their un-hurt dog attacked the other dog so my uncle tried to separate them, but they were ripping each other up, so my uncle tried to shoot the un-hurt dog so it would just be a little injured so they could separate them and get them fixed up, but he missed and shot them both through the stomach. i havent quite forgiven him yet but they both died. that last one was the worst for my cousin. she locked herself in her room for a week

*Perrine*
Awww Sarah i'm so sorry for you ... :disappointed: I know what it's like to lose a pet, and that's not "just an animal" as many people say, because you're attached to them, almost like a member of your family... Really, good luck, I know it's hard
