Interpretation of lyrics

Featured Replies

So let's talk about Chris's song writing, come here to discuss any song you don't understand, or give your interpretation about it, not necessarily what Chris really meant... discuss what it means to you personally, or over what do you think Martin wrote it etc.

PS: Don't discuss obvious songs like yellow :dozey:

I wrote a longish interpretation of 42 in the 42 sub-board but it failed and I think it has yet to be replied to....

that's why I made this thread, instead of having a thread for every single song

I think that Twisted Logic is the only song Coldplay's ever made that could be even close to considered to be bordering on political.

....ellipse...

Can anyone explain what does the Sleeping Sun lyrics mean?

I have no clue with that song.

What about how you see the world?

Politik??

What about how you see the world?

HMMMMMM. Yeah, maybe. that's actually a good point. ....

Politik??

Not really political, man XD

Violet hill?

But that isn't based on a clear situation...

Man, I am fighting a losing battle hear :sweatdrop:

I love this thread. I relate to many Coldplay songs. In fact it makes me curious what the band members have been through that have left them with parallel feelings to mine. Although I could never write songs as brilliantly as they do, the words in so many of theirs songs take the words from my mouth and speak to my heart.

ie. Fix You!

When you try your best and you don't succeed (haven't we all been there?)

When you get what you want and not what you need (speaks for itself)

When you are so tired but you can't sleep (not being able to shut my mind off)

Stuck in Reverse (the times that I felt I was going no where)

And the tears come streaming down your face

When you lose something you can't replace (My daughter 11 years ago)

When you love someone and it goes to waste. (My abusive ex husband didn't deserve my love)

Could it be worse (Definately not)

Although my life is not in that place anymore (Lights had finally guided me home......or atleast to a better place in my life)......This song is a very deep reflection into my past.

i think Politik could be taken as very political actually.

I always thought it was a reflection of angst/frustration about how people ALWAYS react to politics RATHER THAN a specific situation. Whereas, Twisted Logic (particularly the part about being "created, then drilled and invaded" and so on and so forth) relates more to what is going on TODAY specifically.

Does anyone get what I'm saying?

mmm no... Twisted Logic does not refer to specific political events (?)

Well it does more so than Violet Hill.

Hundreds of years in the future

There could be computers

Looking for life on earth

also:

Created then drilled and invaded

If somebody made it

Someone will mess it up

And you are not wrong to

Ask, who does this belong to?

It belongs to all of us

both refer to issues with the environment that Coldplay are so upset about, in my opinion. When they say "it belongs to all of us" I always thought they were talking about the world as a whole.

Which, the environment is a pretty current thing. And it's much more specific than Violet Hill.

ah that's interesting, i'd never thought of politik like that before. i do get what you're saying though :nice: i remember reading somewhere that chris had written politik just a few days after the events of 9/11.. and with that in mind, i just always took it as directly political.

I get it, but it's completely up to your own personal interpretation

^ true. that's whats so great ..and so dangerous about writing songs.

once, i wrote a song, and it had a line about trojan horses in it. you wouldn't belieeeve how many people made jokes about it having something to do with sex :dozey:

in some ways i think sigur ros have it all figured out when they just sing nonesense (from the heart) :P

Yeah, that's what I meant. I think that's why they named the X&Y tour after it, too.

I love how everyone is talking about my name song! :D

Twisted Logic is an INSANELY underrated song, both musically and lyrically. :nice:
