Dejan
The Strokes' lead singer is finishing production on his debut solo album, Phrazes for the Young. In support of the album Julian Casablancas will soon announce a short series of special dates in the United States to be followed by a proper tour sometime this year. Phrazes for the Young consists of eight songs, all written by Casablancas, and produced by Jason Loder with some extra help from Bright Eyes' producer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Mogis during a recording stop in Nebraska. Since Casablancas was the principal songwriter for The Strokes we can expect his debut album to cover some similar ground, and a trailer for the album on his website confirms the suspicion. It looks like the sort of epic animation that a band like The Strokes might have made in the 1970s and carries the same faded glamour that The Strokes rely upon. The album risks nostalgia by claiming to be "for the young," but it's the same risk The Strokes took and won by creating a sound that came close to being dated but ended up timeless. TechnicolorGreenEyes
Yeah you're right I fail because I don't think the lead singer, who plays no insruments and doesn't even write 100% of the songs is not 90% of the band's value.
bjaiken
I want a new Strokes album. I don't care about percentage of contribution, and I certainly don't care about any solo projects.
x_TheSkyCouldFall
I want a new Strokes album too. They just need to come back with an amazing record and all will be alright with the world. In the meanwhile, I'm actually really looking forward to this. Not only because I am purely in love with Julian, but because it feels like it's been way too long since I've heard anything Strokes-related. That trailer reminds me so much of images from their linear notes for last record. Ahh nostalgia.
bjaiken
^ Yeah, after further consideration, I guess a solo album would be interesting. I just can't help but think of it as a distraction from what I really want....a new Strokes album. I've waited long enough. I am a big fan of Julian's as well. The Strokes are one band that I will always follow no matter what anyone else thinks. That said, I still hope this album is both a commercial and critical success. It would be nice to experience the same excitement I felt during the "Is This It" era. If not, no big deal.

RunForTheHills
I'm actually really excited after seeing the trailer. But I agree, the sooner a new Strokes album comes out, the better :P Edit: Man I really love the music being played from 1:01 onwards - so lush. I think the new sound is great.
