He also produced Coldplay's worst album.

He's tainting their actual musical... thing.

You might think so. I think it's great, and you can't argue with it because it's their most successful album.

Succesfull =/= good you people!!

I don't think VLVODAAHF is a bad album at all. In my opinion it's better than X&Y.

But I agree to let this thing with Eno be a one time project. I miss their Parachutes/AROBTTH sharp and hard sound.

He's helped produce some of the band's most interesting and fun music; sticking with him mightn't be such a bad idea.

I agree.

I dunno. At first I loved the Viva thing, but I am so tired of it. In retrospect it's not as good as I thought it way. I guess I forgot how much better their old stuff is.

I want some oldies with more piano and acoustics.

They say they wanted Eno so they could get better instead of bigger.

I think they got a lot bigger and more plain different than better.

^^I agree. I was looking forward to it at first, too. Even though there's some pretty good songs off it, it's just not one of my favorite Coldplay albums. It's like, the only Coldplay album I've listened to the least, so yeah, I think they should ditch Eno.

Agree... at first the album was enjoyable, but it's worn off. Make it a one-time venture plz.

You guys are giving Eno way too much credit here. The guy only produced it, maybe made some suggestions about how long a song should be, which instruments should be mixed louder or how they should approach a concept, but its not like he designed the costumes or wrote the songs himself. And another producer still wouldn't have made the album anything like Parachutes.

Who's with me?

not me

agreed, but he's not doing them any good. he's a cocky bastard who has been out of fresh ideas for 20 years, and we all know how Chris and the gang are prone to hero worship, so they are still in awe of his earlier work. they'd do anything he said most likely, when they'd be better off with a more low-key producer who would let their ideas come from them.

I'm extatic that my favorite producer of all time worked with my favorite band! But I've always been a bit of an Eno fangirl and I rambled on for weeks about this when I heard the news. It was like one of the best things I could ever imagine. Also, I love Coldplay's new record, so there's always that...

If I was ever a musician, I'd kill to have Eno produce my record. But that's just me.

I'm not talking about the costumes (Although, I feel the same about those). I do, however, think he was very involved with the creative process of making the actual music.

On a personal level, Parachutes and AROBTTH mean more to me, but I can't honestly say that the music on those albums is "better". In fact, it's rather bland compared to VlV. For the first time, Coldplay pushed music in general forward. There really isn't another arena rock band with songs like Lost! and Viva la Vida. On the flipside, plenty of bands now milk the piano rock of the early albums (see The Fray) or even the sonic yelping of X&Y (see Kings of Leon).

The music-and lyrics-on Viva la Vida simply have more to offer than previous efforts. Sometimes I think we're blinded by the music we fell in love with. I, for example, still rank AROBTTH as my favorite album because I discovered it at a time when the atmosphere of the album worked almost as a soundtrack to my life. I "discovered" VlV, on the other hand, because I was a fan of their earlier work. Of course the album would never compare on a personal level. But the music is undoubtedly more impressive.

Whether that's due to Eno or not, I hope it continues.

Well seeing as how VLVOD is Coldplay's best album to date, I think they should stick with what works.

i really think that even if they ditched eno, they wouldnt go back to "old coldplay."

That would be a regression. They can only go forward from here.

well, i heard VLVODAAHF last year & i still remember Viva la Vida..what does it mean guys??? loved the album ! :)

down with Viva, at first it was nice, but it's an album that bores you easily, it's not any deep. it does not stay in your mind.

I love Viva and Eno has done a good job - Viva was far superior to X&Y. Coldplay's not going to ditch him anytime soon.

HOWEVER.

I definitely miss AROBTTH and Parachutes. However, if all their albums sound like our favourite AROBTTH, Coldplay wouldn't be evolving as a band.

Both Eno and Jon Hopkins had a big influence on the record, I think -- I mean Life In Technicolor AND The Escapist are almost Hopkins' songs anyway... intrumentally, at least, I think both of them were kind of heavy-handed in their production.

I'm not sure if it would make the next record better but I don't really think the Eno sound fits with the Coldplay sound. You know?

And the next album doesn't have to sound like Parachutes OR A Rush imo, I mean it would be kind of nice if it did, but that isn't going to happen. It just needs to be... not as poppish. Or that's what I think. I think Eno's affecting them a little too much.
