I hate the term 'pop' though. To me, pop is Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers music. It's just a whole different world of music.

 

I'd say Coldplay is closer to rock than to pop.

I think it depends on the era...their style is always changing....

 

Before Parachutes and maybe also Parachutes -> Indie or Alternative

A rush of blood to the head -> Soft Rock

X&Y and Viva la vida -> Pop as sadly as it sounds...

They are their own genre. Coldplay.
