Night Time imo sounds perfect. but Islands sounds a little hazy but i think that was their first song so they might have been a little nervous.

The XX [don't sleep on this new band]

he xx arrive with their debut album xx - a whole new sound of love, loss and longing. Gingerly dodging the storm cloud of hype hysteria that plagues seemingly every other new buzz act of the moment, Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim, Baria Qureshi and Jamie Smith are edging into our hearts. Their unique make-up is an inadvertent second nature marriage of 2009's urban/guitar

tribes, in one corner fluttering new wave indebted reverberation, in the other, plumes of post-dubstep sub-bass and figuratively, their defining core of rich R&B vocal textures. If it all reads on paper like some potentially post-modern hotchpotch, then this makes their timeless results all the more alluring. The enveloping vocal partnership of Romy and Oliver is one that would've dropped-jaws in any decade this century, and set amidst a shivering soundscape of beats and plucks, their bedroom-reared concrete-soul is being justly heralded as the UK's most original and treasured alt-pop artifact of late.

In an effort not to draw too much distance from the DIY aesthetic of their early demos, which were recorded in their bedrooms, they recorded their debut album xx under no one's watch, other than engineer Rodaidh McDonald, at XL Recordings' west London in-house studio. The result a wash of sexy, coy, cold and sad rhythms and melodies the likes of Robert Smith, Massive Attack and The Streets.

I just discovered this band... and wow, I really really like their sounds.

Their debut Album (XX) released last year was very acclaimed.

Anyone else into them? Maybe you could give those a listen:

yay fans!

I just realised they are so young... Still they make this incredible music :surprised:

I think they're great! My friend gave me a copy of their debut album about a month ago. The first track and "VCR" immediately got my attention on the first listen.

whats the deal with their debut album being called "2.0"

i always thought it was simple entitled "xx"

I heard somewhere recently that the band are set to release another album in 2010, around september, under the moniker XXX! which is slightly odd. I cant find it, but it was on the NME website somewhere.

Lovely music. Love it!!

Sadly they just played in a town nearby where I live,

and I mist that not knowing about it before now

i fucking love this song! they're playing in my town in April, savin' up for it!

  • 1 year later...

Well, i couldn't find it either and it's not in the band index. I guess it didn't exist :surprised: !

crazy. I thought the album was alright. It just really sucked how Intro was so amazing but the rest of the album was kind of meh. To me, anyway.

Their Florence And The Machine remix/cover is incredible.

Oh and I REALLY hope they don't do another album. It'd ruin it. I think they're perfect as they are right at this moment.

^ I see what you mean. Though i'm sure they'll do another album. I also agree Intro is the best song on the album (although i personnally like the other songs too).

I remember hearing that Florence and the Machine cover. I should listen to it again I guess.

well i for one absolutely loved the album. i think it was no.3 on my 2009 best of list. probably my favourite album to put on in the middle of the night when everything is quiet in the house.

i'm very curious to see where they go from here. if they make another album based around minimalism they will probably be shunned for recycling. so they probably need try a slightly different genre. maybe an acoustic based album?

Merged with the other thread and added to the Band index. :nice:

(Thread title searches don't bring results because it's only 2 letters, just like the U2 thread :))
