My mom was in London the day they announced it won the right to host the Olympics, and this huge military jet flew overhead and dropped red confetti and made a loud sonic-boom. She thought it had crashed and the confetti looked like smoke.

 

The very next day she went for coffee in London and heard people running and screaming - when the terrorist had bombed the bus. If she had not gone for coffee, she might have been on that very bus.

The London Olympics won't be as huge as extravagant as Beijing but it can be just as good. Remember Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002 - they were excellent. The only thing we can hope is that the Olympics Opening Ceremony won't be anywhere near as bad as the handover parade at the Beijing Closing Ceremony. David Beckham standing on a bus kicking a ball into the crowd?? What was the bloody point? Jimmy Paige and Leona Lewis performing A Whole Lotta Love... badly? No! Drama students/school kids dancing weirdly around a double decker bus? Erm what? The double decker bus turning into a hedge of London landmarks which none of us could work out what it was? Fuck off!

 

The whole opeing ceremony should just be Coldplay, a reformed Oasis and Paul McCartney playing us music. That is all we need to entertain the world.

She is a strong black women :laugh3:, her show isn't that "cheap" either it isn't Jerry Springer at ALL. She basically "picked" our president with her endorsement of him before he became huge for the election.

I remember in 2005/2006 talking about Barack Obama in my Modern Studies class discussing the American Dream and saying how he could potentially become the first ever black President because of his election to the Senate in 2004 and his claim to fame at the 2004 Democratic Convention. (I think we were some of the very few in Britain who knew who he was back then!) Don't ever remember Oprah involved then!

No, no not like he wasnt KNOWN! But people thought Hillary Clinton had a better chance of winning then Oprah endorsed him. I guess I made that look like he wasn't known at all!

Oprah has sort of a cult-following here in America. Stay-at-home wives watch her daytime talk show, and she will introduce a product or personality she likes... and everybody will go out and buy that product.

 

That's why it's every author's dream to get selected for Oprah's "book list", because she can turn them from a pauper into a millionaire overnight just by mentioning the book on her show.
