my nephew got a letter today. he needs to pay a 450 Euro fine, because he had downloaded some (shitty :disappointed: ) song illegaly in april. in april! i wonder how many more letters he will get. he is still at work, and doesn't know yet...

kids, pay for your music. :dozey:

That kind of disturbs me. Where did he download it? Off limewire or a torrent?

i will need to ask him. i got the letter, since it's my w- lan he's using, but i didn't read the whole thing. it annoyed me too much. :P

ohhh shit. :uhoh:

what did he use to download music?

edit: nvm :)

uh if that will happen here i think half my country will end up or too poor or in jail for too much downloads :uhoh:

not my case :escaping:

sorry for the kid, but didn't you knew about those fines and warned him about it?

he came home now, i'll log out and ...., well i don't know.

My thing is that if the government doesn't want us illegally downloading music then they need to delete all of the free music sharing websites. :P

Although, I don't download illegally.

This is the first time I've heard of anyone directly who has been "nabbed" for this. It would definitely be good to know which medium/program was used.:stunned:

I buy most of my music :smartass: :wacky:

I do not.

Ignore the letter, and ask them to prove it was him whom downloaded said track.

The methods those companies use are flawed because logs often contain randomly placed IP addresses in and IP addresses can easily be faked.

back again. he says he didn't download that stuff ( bravo- hits, yay), and it might be a hoax anyway. the letter wasn't from the public prosecution department, but some solicitor's office. he didn't produce, what site he's using yet. i'll tell you asap.

So it could actually be a total scam.;)

I can't think why anyone in their right mind would want to download "Bravo Shits" anyway. What a joke!! He should sue them for defamation of character!

Look up the name of the company in google, and see if anybody else has got those letters demanding payment.

he did that now and he's not alone at all it seems. some people already accumulated several thousands of euros for overdue notices. i'll have to force myself through that crap now, duh.

for those of you capable of german:

Like I said, get them to show you their absolute proof of downloads. IP addresses along can't be used as they can be faked.

not sure yet...

@ kite: yeah, right. :nice:

something extra to do. :dance::sick:

Not really a scam, some record company has decided to go some digging around and tracked some download links to see what IP addresses has 'downloaded' them, they went to the ISPs claiming foul play, and passed the details to a 3rd party whom sends out letters saying "pay up or we will take you to court". It's a similar trick used by games companies, but with the same drawbacks.

Once a wireless printer got a letter saying it has downloaded a song!

"dear mr. wireless printer, you have downloaded this song, pay up or we will take you to court"
