November 20, 200916 yr From their review of the Snow Patrol Greatest Hits. "Here's a depressing exercise: Sit down and try to figure out how many of the bigger alt-rock bands that emerged this past decade will one day crank out a half-decent greatest-hits album. It's a short list. The White Stripes will release a great one. So will Coldplay, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and the Killers. Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party have a chance, and Tegan and Sara could get there, too. And... that's pretty much it. " Rest of the review is here: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13693-up-to-now/
November 20, 200916 yr Briggs AND Pitchfork both showing the Coldplay love in the same year.....the end is near! :stunned:
November 20, 200916 yr Disregarding the fact that Up To Now isn't supposed to be a "Greatest hits" album (it's a collection of the band's personal favorites, many of which are B-sides), Pitchfork has been praising Coldplay more ever since VLVODAAHF, actually. They gave decent (though not great) reviews to Prospekt's March and LRLRL also. I'm more surprised that they praised The Killers. I see them getting trashed on Pitchfork quite a bit.
November 21, 200916 yr Briggs AND Pitchfork both showing the Coldplay love in the same year.....the end is near! :stunned: this
November 21, 200916 yr This confuses me, sorta :uhoh: anyone care to break it down into simpler terms for me?

November 21, 200916 yr Pitchfork's ratings of Coldplay albums: LRLRL - 6.8 Prospekt's March - 6.0 Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends - 6.9 X&Y - 4.9 Live 2003 - 6.0 AROBTTH - 5.1 Parachutes - 5.3 Hahahahaha, Pitchfork clearly has something stuck up their ass... like pretty far. Coldplay's Greatest Hits album, if they release one, is going to be blah... most of their good songs aren't really "hit" hits.
November 21, 200916 yr Wow! Talk about tearing a hole in reality! Pitchfork (in a way) praising Coldplay??! But too right. They'll make an amazing best of album. Much better than that Radiohead one. :laugh3:
November 21, 200916 yr Snow Patrol have always come across like a more workmanlike Coldplay. Same celestial choruses, same overwhelming sense of longing, same epic U2-derived comfort-food melodies. But with Snow Patrol, you never get the idea that they're out to save the world or get their faces plastered up 80 feet high in Times Square. same old, same old.... *yawn* Pitchfork's ratings of Coldplay albums: LRLRL - 6.8 Prospekt's March - 6.0 Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends - 6.9 X&Y - 4.9 Live 2003 - 6.0 AROBTTH - 5.1 Parachutes - 5.3 hahaha they've peaked on Viva, the next album'll be a 4 point something
