LED ZEPPELIN TO REUNITE

Rock legends LED ZEPPELIN will reportedly reunite for a one-off memorial concert in honour of their late record boss before embarking on a world tour. The Whole Lotta Love hitmakers have only performed a handful of concerts, including Live Aid in 1985, since their split in 1980 following the death of drummer John Bonham. But singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones will re-group alongside Bonham's son Jason for a special concert in memory of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun in London. A source says, "Page, Plant and Jones spoke and agreed to do the memorial concert. They are waiting for a definite date. "And no-one can quite believe it, but during discussions about the concert they all gave the green light to a tour if it all does well and they don't all fall out. "It has been hoped-for and denied for years. But this is the closest they have ever come to a reunion tour. The feeling is that this is going to happen next year." Ertegun died in December (06) after seven weeks in a coma following a fall at a Rolling Stones concert.

Wow.

First The Verve, now Led Zeppelin?

Nicccccccce.

Ever heard of the search feature?

Please don't reunite, if your crap the memories of greatness will be eroded.

They do when you post the information in, which bumps the thread up to the top.

Whole Lotta Love is a really really great song.

The same as The Immigrant Song.

God, I need more of this band and I might buy something of them next week.

How could I survive two whole years without getting more of them.

Houses of the Holy is not enough for me. :D

Led Zeppelin confirm reunion gig

The surviving members of legendary rock group Led Zeppelin are to reform for a star-studded tribute concert in London.

Singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones will play at the show to remember the late Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun.

The one-off concert, the trio's first performance for 19 years, will take place at the O2 arena on 26 November.

Tickets will cost £125 and be allocated by ballot. Pete Townshend, Bill Wyman and Paolo Nutini will also perform.

Ertegun, who signed Led Zeppelin in 1968, died last year.

The place of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, who died in 1980, will be taken by his son Jason.

Plant said: "During the Zeppelin years, Ahmet Ertegun was a major foundation of solidarity and accord.

"For us, he was Atlantic Records and remained a close friend and conspirator. This performance stands alone as a tribute to the work and life of a longstanding friend."

The news is likely to spark a huge rush for tickets as devoted fans scramble to get into what could be the band's last show.

Tickets will only be available to those who register on a dedicated website, ahmettribute.com, and will be limited to two successful applications per household.

With their pounding, blues-influenced anthems and explosive stadium shows, Led Zeppelin paved the way for artists across the worlds of heavy metal and alternative rock.

Their best-known songs include Stairway to Heaven, Whole Lotta Love, Rock and Roll, Kashmir and Communication Breakdown - although they never released singles in the UK.

Led Zeppelin's last full concert was in Berlin in July 1980 - two months before John Bonham died.

'Whole set'

Page, Plant and Jones performed at Live Aid five years later, and also get back together at a concert to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Atlantic Records in 1988.

But a rift between Jones and the other two band members opened after Page and Plant started working together without him in the 1990s.

Rumours of a reconciliation surfaced several years ago, leading to speculation about a reunion.

Harvey Goldsmith, who is promoting the concert, said that he had originally asked the three band members to play a 30-minute set.

"Jason Bonham became part of the catalyst, and they did a week's rehearsal," he said. "We had a meeting and Robert turned around and said we're not going to do 30 minutes, we're doing to do a whole set."

"It's a day I never thought would come," said Dave Lewis, editor of Led Zeppelin fan magazine Tight But Loose. "The four people on stage in 2007 - wake me up, I'm dreaming!"

The concert coincides with the release of a new two-CD best of compilation, Mothership, on 13 November.

Profits from the show will go towards scholarships in Ertegun's name in UK, the USA and Turkey, the country of his birth.

His wife Mica said: "He would be very proud that Led Zeppelin have chosen to reunite and headline a benefit concert in his name featuring so many of his friends.

"I would like to thank all of the artists for their generous contribution to help make Ahmet's vision a reality."

Goldsmith said Ertegun "became a friend and was my mentor".

"Our industry deeply misses such a giant of music," he said. "It is a fitting tribute that these great artists have all come together to perform in his memory."

He also warned that tickets being sold on the black market would be cancelled.

Paolo Nutini, Ertegun's last UK signing, went on to score a hit album last year.

"He touched my life with his amazing personality and opened a few doors when I was starting my career," he said.

"He was a special guy, a real gentleman and it's such a shame he's gone but a massive tribute that all his music lives on - and will do forever."

25million fans rush for tickets to Led Zeppelin comeback gig

Re-forming rockers Led Zeppelin crashed the O2 arena's website yesterday - as 25 million fans logged on in a rush for just 20,000 tickets.

An incredible 100,000 hits a minute sent the computers into meltdown as the band announced it would reunite for the first time in 19 years for a one-off show at the south-east London venue.

Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones will play at the Tribute To Ahmet Ertegun concert alongside Pete Townshend, Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings, Foreigner and Paolo Nutini.

The gig, on Monday 26 November, is in honour of Ahmet Ertegun, who died last year aged 63. Ertegun founded Atlantic Records and had a hand in all their careers.

Internet service providers are working around the clock to keep the official website, ahmettribute.com, up and running. Promoter Harvey Goldsmith said today fans should be patient as the website will be open for registration until noon on Monday. He said: "It is not first come, first served."

All the night's proceeds will go to charity, but the announcement has led to speculation that the Seventies superstars will be unable to resist the lure of a lucrative reunion tour, which could net them as much as £70million.

The three original members - Robert Plant, 59, guitarist Jimmy Page, 62, and bassist John Paul Jones, 61 - will be joined at the O2 Millennium Dome by Jason Bonham, the 40-year-old son of the band's late drummer John.

Despite sky-high ticket prices of £125, many nostalgic fans are clearly keen to see the band which led to the website crash.

With such high demand, organisers have decided to offer two tickets per household on a ballot system.

The concert's promoter, Harvey Goldsmith, said the band is approaching the gig extremely seriously.

"They thought about it very carefully, and even decided to actually rehearse for a few days to see if they could play together again," he said.

"I only asked them to do 30 minutes and they came back after a week's rehearsals and said they wanted to do a full show. So they obviously started to bond back together again."

He added: "As far as I'm concerned, this is a one-off show - if something materialises after that, I'll be thrilled."

As well as a forthcoming greatest hits compilation, called The Mothership, the group will also release a special edition DVD showing exclusive footage from the concert.

Ladbrokes last night made the album an odds-on favourite to top the charts.

Nick Weinberg, a spokesman for the bookmakers, said: "Reunion gigs are all the rage at the moment and we reckon Led Zeppelin will make the most of their comeback.

"We fully expect to see their older fans, and a new generation of rock lovers, getting behind the group."

ledzepDM1209_468x348.jpgSeventies stars: The band in their heyday

The band members, who held preliminary rehearsals together in June of this year, have not performed together professionally since 1988.

They split shortly after drummer Bonham died in 1980 after a drinking binge.

Since then, they have performed only a handful of gigs, including Live Aid in 1985.

It is understood that Jones in particular was not keen to perform as part of Led Zeppelin again.

The band sold more than 300million albums worldwide and in 1995 were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Led Zeppelin Reunion: ticket application deadline extended

Demand means hopefuls are given a little longer

The deadline to register for Led Zeppelin tickets has been extended due to the incredible demand.

Fans wanting to go to the gig on November 26 at the O2 Arena in London must put their names into a ballot which will randomly allocate tickets.

However yesterday the site Ahmettribute.com received around 120 million hits, with 25 million people apparently registering for the ballot, which closes on Monday (September 17) at noon (BST).

There are 20,000 tickets at £125 per head and sales are limited to two per person.

Organisers have now told the ballot, initially due to close on Monday (September 17), will now be open until midday Wednesday (19). Successful applicants will hear after October 1.

Promoter Harvey Goldsmith said in a statement: "We urge people to be patient and to remember this is a ballot system and that all registrations will have equal standing regardless if they register first or last.

"In order to ensure as many fans as possible are able to enter the ballot we have decided to extend the closing of the ballot from midday Monday 17th to midday Wednesday 19th.

"To the thousands of fans that have already registered, we thank you for your support of the Tribute To Ahmet Ertegun Concert and we continue to do our best to ensure that tickets for this show go directly to you and don't end up in the hands of the unscrupulous touts."

Led Zeppelin will reunite for the show in November 26, topping a bill that also includes Pete Townshend, Foreigner and Paolo Nutini with Bill Wyman And The Rhythm Kings backing those three acts as well as playing their own set.

The show is being held to raise money for the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund, which pays for university scholarships in the UK, US and Turkey.

The fund was created in honour of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun who died last year. He worked helped further the career of a host of acts, including Led Zeppelin.

"During the Zeppelin years, Ahmet Ertegun was a major foundation of solidarity and accord. For us he was Atlantic Records and remained a close friend and conspirator," explained Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant of the band's decision to reform. "His performance stands alone as our tribute to the work and the life of our long-standing friend."

In other NME news, the almighty Beth "Standing in the way of the pie" Ditto says she doesn't care for Led Zeppelin, so I guess that means the reunion is off, if Bethy doesn't care than all hope is lost.

hello all! would anyone happen to know if the reunion show will be available to watch somewhere on the internet? I know they're showing it in various theatres, but nowhere near me and I'm sure maybe someone will be getting a stream.

I've been listening to a lot of the live CD, "How the West Was Won." It's the first time I've really listened to it in depth. Freaking hell, that band is explosive. You know the band is going to be good, but Robert Plant's vocals are dead on (not to imply that they should be off, it just seems that vocals tend to be the biggest drop off when it comes to a live CD).

wow that would have to be one of the biggest bumps in WoM history.

personally i think that bar Led Zep I and IV, their work live on stage was far superior to their work in the studio. i actually find their albums a little dull when compared to the the live recordings.

I love that live album. the epic versions of Whole Lotta Love and Dazed and Confused are so great! I really love how during Dazed and Confused "the Crunge" comes in... sounds so good!

Honestly I used to be such a huge fan of the band in high school. But now I don't listen to them as much as I used to.

My current favorite songs would be: No Quarter, Since I've Been Loving You, Ten Years Gone, When The Levee Breaks, the Wanton Song, Achilles Last Stand, Since I've Been Loving You, Bron-Yr-Aur (no, not the stomp :P)
