JONSI

Playing to small audiences like that is incredibly uncomfortable. It's not something I'd want to do more than once. So I can understand that. But the vinyl thing is ridiculous! surely that was just a mistake with the organisers or whatever?

The vinyl thing was intentional. Origami music only sells vinyl (from what I remember). It was a way that the store was supposed to get some sales and exposure, and Jonsi was supposed to get a little promotion and offer a unique experience for his fans. Didn't work out, though.

if its not jonsi's fault....who we should blame ? santa claus ?

They probably booked all the in-store gigs without really knowing how Jónsi felt about the last one he had.

Just let it go man

iw67mp.jpg

now let's all just appreciate all the amazing music he's created and all the beautiful concerts he's been having for all of us to attend to :cheesy:

Agh, if only I could go see him :disappointed:

:snobby:

You guys don't know how shy he is do you?

Well, anyway, someone on the Jónsi forum posted this about the last acoustic in-store gig Jónsi had:

"Hey—

I'm new to this forum, but I am a long time SR fan, and I just wanted to try to shed some light on what happened in Echo Park and why I believe that the in-store tour was canceled.

In theory it was a great idea, but in execution it was an absolute shambles. Jonsi showed up about 30 to 45 minutes late, which in it of itself, isn't a problem. The traffic is an absolute nightmare here, so I obviously didn't blame him for his lateness. However, once he got here, he was obviously very uncomfortable with the situation.

To set the stage, there was around 35 of us in the store and another 100 or so outside in the rain, and Jonsi was forced to perform standing on a chair in the corner of the store b/c Origami Vinyl weren't bothered to actually prepare some sort of stage or step ladder for him to stand on. Because of that, it was nearly impossible for anyone not in front to see him (esp. my girlfriend who is 5'2), and it was actually quite difficult to hear his guitar as well. It wasn't helped by the fact that the store refused to close the front door (which was possibly due to fire restrictions), so we were also fighting off the sounds of the street, passing buses, people talking outside, etc.

He only played four songs (I was told he'd be playing for 35 to 40 minutes), and two of those four songs (the admittedly stunning "Icicle Sleeves" and "Go Do") he had to restart after he flubbed chord changes (he seemed really nervous). Obviously, it was incredible to hear his voice in a truly acoustic (microphone-less) setting, but it was an ultimately disappointing performance, because any fan of his work knows what he is capable of. When I heard that the rest of the dates were canceled, I really couldn't have been less surprised, as nobody acquitted themselves well at the LA instore.

More annoying was the fact that everyone had to buy a copy of Go on vinyl to gain entrance, which means that my girlfriend and I now have three copies of it. It was obviously a money-making tour driven by his management/label, and I have to say that it was a serious misstep by them. As for Jonsi, I was disappointed by his overall performance and demeanor, but if you put a great goalkeeper at center forward, you can't blame him for not scoring goals. He was put in an awful position by his management, so I can understand why things went down the way they did. I'll always be a big fan of his, but from the overall reaction of the crowd as he slunk away after playing for less than 20 minutes, he may have lost a few fans on Sunday. I put that on his management.

Sorry for the rant, just wanted to try to clear somethings up. Now back to work!

Dan"

Home from the Houston show. It was awesome! His voice is so amazing! At the end of his set he was dancing about like a mad man and kicked his mic stand over and it almost cracked me on the head.

When Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi canceled a string of in-store performances a couple weeks ago after an initial show at L.A.'s Origami Vinyl, we assumed that first in-store was something of a disaster. After all, Jónsi's management claimed it was "arguably the most uncomfortable experience of his ten years in the public eye."

But now we have high-quality footage of two songs from the October 17 Origami performance, courtesy of the record store-- and it looks and sounds nothing short of amazing (albeit a little cramped). Too bad this won't happen again.

IDIOT i've posted the videos after the 'article',STFU

Just got an email that A live concert for thr Go tour is coming out on cd/DVD at the end of the month!

‘Go Live’ is a film / live album double pack of jónsi’s hugely acclaimed solo show which is still going on as we speak. This beautifully conceived package includes reworked live versions of all of the tracks from the Sigur rós singer’s debut solo album, ‘Go’, as well as versions of all the other new songs he’s been playing on a tour that’s taken in four continents.

the film

The visual element of ‘Go Live’ is based around a film of the very first time jónsi and his band played the songs from ‘Go’ to people at the final dress rehearsal for the tour in March 2010. Filmed by Fifty Nine Productions, the people responsible for jónsi’s celebrated stage design, the movie captures the never-to-be-repeated early stages of the productions development, in front of a small invited audience whose only price of admission was to dress as animals. Interwoven with this footage is background interviews and behind-the-scenes clips of jónsi and band on the road, as well as exclusive versions of the unreleased ‘Icicle Sleeves’, ‘New Piano Song’, ‘Volume Pedal Song’ and other untitled musical interludes to be found nowhere else. Running time is 1 hour 14 minutes.

the album

The live audio part of the package is the entire jónsi hour-and-a-quarter live concert as played this summer, and features still more exclusive content, including ‘Stars In Still Water’, ‘Saint Naive’, ‘Icicle Sleeves’ and ‘New Piano Song’, as well as a powerful live version of ‘Sticks And Stones’, the song written by jónsi for the end titles of ‘How To Train Your Dragon’. Housed in a hardback two disc “book”, ‘Go Live’ comes with lots and lots of personal pictures taken by the band on the road, throughout the 16-pages inside.

‘Go Live’ is intended as a finely crafted companion to ‘Go’ and ‘Go Quiet’, and as such is being pegged at a special low price.

Yeah, I believe they were filming it while in Los Angeles. The show I went to in Pomona also had cameras. The guy at the merch booth told me that it was to cover any mistakes from the Los Angeles show. I don't know how true that is.

Also, I purchased a DVD signed by Jonsi and Dean DeBlois. The guy at the merch booth told me that Dean was in town to help with the filming.

Edit: hmm...I guess not. I just read the details of your post. Maybe it was strictly the webcast.

Oh my god.

that live dvd.

When I saw that huge video preview when I went onto Jónsi.com I almost choked on my tea and died.

YESSSSS

JUST YESSSSSSS.

I need this in my dvd player RIGHT NOW.

:cheesy:

My show was recorded though, so I already have a live registration. :nice:

And here are some beautiful photographs of him!

Don't know who took them though
