I totally agree with you Gloamers. It just ain't Christmas without Paul McCartney's Wonderful Christmas Time and John Lennon's Happy Xmas (War Is Over).

 

While I admit that The Pogues and Kirsty McColl is a very good song, it's been so overplayed at recent Christmas's that it's taking the piss! Kirsty McColl makes that song. Band Aid - the one from 1985 is a very good song but almost completely destroyed by that absolutely horrid 2004 version.

 

Check Bono out at 1.30ish. Testiment that he's completely surpassed most of those on this video.

I think it's well written but I don't put it as an ultimate christmas song because of the famine idea.

 

Do They Know It's Christmas Time? Ironically all of the guys were probably stuffing themselves with turkey and pud on Christmas Day that year.
