What's the definition of an Osaka Sun?

Featured Replies

I've been telling people that it means a sunset or a sundown, or when the sky is pink-peach or orangy color.

But i'm not sure what it really means.. or did they just make it up?

Osaka sun means the sun... in Osaka.

Osaka is in Japan.

yeah.

That's basically... yeah what she said.

It could be either - compared to the UK there can be quite dramatic sunrises and sunsets in Osaka (and in Japan generally).

As far as I remember Chris was partly inspired to write the song when he was up early in the morning in Osaka and the skyline was dramatic. I think some of the impression was very much due to being in such an exotic city (for many English people) with such a different culture. I see the song as a yearning for certain things through the new perspective of the situation he found himself in.

PM me if you want links to dramatic sun pictures around Osaka or Japan :)

a fan in a blog talked about this: "Osaka in Japan is believed to be the first place that the sun sets... fresh every new year."

Sorry you're not right there I think, but I am just off to bed and too tired to look it up to offer the correct interpretation. From memory a place on the coast near Osaka is a traditional spot to see the first sunrise of the new year.

And of course, Japan is the 'land of the rising sun'.

But, neither of these two things have anything major to do with that line in the song imho. It was Chris wandering around central Osaka near the bands' hotel when sunrise broke in an incredible way that inspired him.
