^No, not really.

...I wonder how many people watching internationally actually realized that was all meant to be a giant piss-take... :uhoh:

Uh, I didn't really realise! Parts of it were. Of course the gigantic mounties was clearly a piss take, funny as hell. The segments with William Shatner, Catherine O'Hara and Michael Fox were accompanied with these dorky images played with it, I don't know what the world would have thought about it haha.

I'm sure there were plenty of people who thought things such as the big mounties were totally ridiculous haha.

Can't believe it's all over! Life sucks again :bigcry:

Well I missed the entire closing ceremonys but thats A-Okay.

After the game I went downtown to a friend's apartment with a bunch of us. First me and my buddy ran down Quinpool road (a pretty busy street downtown). I was wearing the infamous gold spandex pants (with Canadian boxers over top), my jersey, and a big Canada flag. So many cars were just honking and yelling, cheering as they drove by. And random high fives with complete strangers. My voice is completely shot now. I will remember tonight for the rest of my life. What a game. Really high points for both sides, heart attacks for all, and a really entertaining gold medal game.

Always nice to see the hometown here score the winner too.

I'm.

that's awesome that you got to be a part of it. I'm completely jealous.

I've been in Vancuver/Whistler for the last week, but couldn't get tickets for anything :( it was really disappointing.... but just the atmosphere of it all was really really cool

I'm going to miss sitting in my kitchen for hours on end watching the Olympics... funny that I saw more olympics at home than I did while I was there

and YEAHH CANADA. most gold medals ever. :D

Dude. I'm jealous now. Sounds like a blast out there nationwide.

It was a fun ceremony... very, very silly once it got going. Worth looking up for a laugh.

(And then there was a Nickleback/Avril/Simple Plan/Atlantis Morissette/Headly back to back performance at the end that kind of ruined it all until K-os came out.)

Yeah, if Shatner's bit about canoe splinters didn't do it, at least Buble in a Mountie costume singing the Maple Leaf forever should have given it away (not that the international press ever seems to get Buble's sense of humor). But if they hadn't figured by the giant inflable beaver and the dancing maple leaves, and the flying moose... well there's no hope for the oblivious by that point.

I went down to Yonge and Dundas in Toronto and it was nuts. People were honking, screaming, the street was blocked off. Mounted (and non-mounted) police were everywhere, there was a shitload of glass and debris on the street. People were dancing, jumping, high fiving and singing the national anthem. People were hanging out of their cars high fiving people running by. Also a few conga lines were going. I lost my voice from cheering so much.

Twas fun :P

I'm so proud of my country for what they've achived in the Olympics this year! :) Record breaking gold medals.

Aw, well the US were brilliant- that was probably the best game I've ever seen. You guys have a lot to be proud of.

:o Oh Canada, that is the most horrendous iine-up ever! What, were Arcade Fire and Rush busy?

That's what I want to know. :bomb:

No, I don't think so. The best way I've heard it described is that a bunch of 50-something white guys looked at the local top 40 radio charts from 2002 and decided that it was the best way to look hip for the kids. :sick2: So many amazing bands, but the crappy ones always get the most attention locally.

^ After winning the gold, that would have been a perfect opportunity for Neal Peart to bring out his NHL logo drums. Instead, Canada uses the world forum to give us Avril. Oh, the humanity...

See, that's why part of me is glad that Canada won the gold. I mean, I wanted USA to win, but if they had, it would have held our national interest for about a week. On the other hand, Canadians will never forget this day.

^true^

I missed the closing ceremony too. :(

Well, as I've heard other people put it, this is our five dollar bill:

Apparently that game was the biggest tv audience in Canadian history. Over 80% of the population tuned in at some point during it. :shocked2:

even if a tiny fraction of the U.S. tuned in, we probably beat you by population :P

80%! Holy puck.........................

Yes you did- on account of having one of the biggest hockey-watching audiences in your history.

I figured it probably did, did you find out an approx. percentage?

Game strikes ratings gold

SUNDAY'S Olympic gold-medal hockey game attracted a massive North American television audience, making it the most-viewed hockey game in the United States in 30 years and the most-viewed show of any kind in Canadian history. On NBC, the United States-Canada game drew an average of 27.6 million viewers and 15.2 per cent of homes, the best such figures for hockey since Feb. 24, 1980, when Team USA beat Finland in Lake Placid for its last hockey gold medal.

It was the third-biggest U.S. hockey audience, trailing only that Finland game (32.8 million viewers) and the "Miracle on Ice" two days earlier against the Soviets, which attracted 34.2 million, even on tape delay.

Sunday's viewership peaked at 34.8 million from 5:30 to 6 p.m. ET, an audience size only football usually can attract among American sports.

The average viewership surpassed those for any day of the most recent World Series, NBA Finals or NCAA Final Four, as well as the Masters and the Daytona 500.

In Canada, an average of 16.6 million people watched on nine channels in eight languages, forming the largest TV audience ever in that nation. About 80 per cent of Canadians (26.5 million) watched at least some part of the game.

CTV play-by-play man Chris Cuthbert announced Sidney Crosby's game-winner this way:

"Crosby scores! Sidney Crosby! The golden goal! And Canada has once-in-a-lifetime Olympic gold!... These Golden Games have their crowning moment."

Later, 14.3 million Canadians watched the closing ceremony, making it the nation's second most-watched show ever.

The U.S. markets with the best ratings were Buffalo (32.6 per cent of homes) and Pittsburgh (31.9), the NHL homes, respectively, of U.S. goalie Ryan Miller and Crosby.

The game easily surpassed the audience for the 2002 final in Salt Lake City, which featured the same teams. That game averaged 17.1 million viewers and a 10.7 rating.

For the 17 nights of the Games, NBC averaged 24.4 million viewers and 13.8 per cent of homes in prime time, roughly in line with what it told advertisers to expect.

In Turin four years ago, NBC averaged 20.2 million viewers and a 12.2 rating. The best local rating among 56 major markets for the 2010 Olympics was 21.9 in Salt Lake City. (Miami was last.) NBC said 190 million people watched at least six minutes of the Olympics.

wow, not bad seeing how our country is much divided about sports, hockey maybe being fourth or fifth in terms of popularity.

I thought it was about more then hockey, like maybe a territory or weapons or something.
