Gabrielle Cilmi's Sweet About Me was the most played song in the UK this year, according to the body that collects royalties for songwriters.

The song was a number six hit last year for the Australian singer.

Coldplay's Viva La Vida came second in the list, while Take That had two hits in the top 10 - Shine at number five and Greatest Day at number nine.

PRS for Music compiled a top 100 based on the number of times a songs was used on radio, TV, online or in concert.

Eight of the top 10 were released in 2008.

Moloko's 2000 single The Time Is Now, played frequently on Sky Sports, was third on the list, followed by Duffy's Mercy and Take That's 2007 song Shine, which currently soundtracks a supermarket advert.

Girls Aloud's The Promise - named best British single at this year's Brit Awards - was number six while No Air, by American Idol winner Jordin Sparks featuring Chris Brown, was the seventh most-played.

The Man Who Can't Be Moved, a number two hit in the UK for Irish band The Script, was at number eight followed by The Greatest Day.

The top 10 was rounded out by US singer Jennifer Hudson's song Spotlight.

Take That, Sugababes and Rihanna each had four entries in the top 100.

But there was no place for Michael Jackson despite a surge in the popularity of his hits after his death in June.
