Reilly
curious : how do you define spam? To me, its something that brings absolutely no attempt at bringing realistic value to the board and its members, but how do we decide what 'value' is? Technically flogging viagra is value, technically a blank post is value... And thats why its up to the mods and ultimately the admins. Actually, Reilly took part in the spam threads at least three different times. He even did it after that big warning from Ian, and nothing happened to him. There seems to be a bit of a double standard here... since Reilly's an older member, he's not getting any of the blame. You havent been blamed as much as Emily, neither has Will, why isnt that considered a double standard? This is why I thought it was a bit OTT to start singularly blaming people and in Emily's case, point out a quote she said weeks ago. Its nice that she apologised, but she shouldn't really have to apologise without about 10 of us all coming out with public apologies. I felt like pointing fingers at a certain person would just cause everyone to start blaming eachother. I also agree a little with Kelsie about the fact that some people got this taken in another way because they're another person. I even remember one night when Reilly actually spammed as a 'fun' thing just too see how quick Julia would be to cleaning it up. Is that what kind example an older person on this forum should make? I have nothing against both Reilly and Julie I just didn't thought that was cool at all. Make up your mind, should I be treated the same as new members despite the fact Im an older member, or should I be expected to act more respectably and treated more harshly because of it? You cant have it both ways. Remember that Julia did send me a warning after my 2nd spam, when she went offline I spammed again and Jo warned me. Going back to the definition of what spam is, it also depends on where its coming from. Like Ren said if its a spambot, they get banned, probably if its a brand new member, they will too. If its someone whos posted here a week, temp ban? A member whos been here a few months, warning? Theres a correlation of leniancy depending on how long a member has been posting here. I did post my original spam to make Julia clean it up and look like a better mod, it was a joke, I guess thats the 'value' I wanted to bring to the board. The biggest spamming session, when Jo was online, resulted in a spamming competition, which, although retarded, its still something. The next time I spammed I officially got sick of it, because it wasnt bringing anything of value to our board. I'm not going to mention any names, as that only creates conflict, but this is something several of us have noticed (and remarked upon) on previous occasions. Whether it's flatly denied or not, the perception is that certain members appear to be able to get away with a lot more than others, purely because of favouritism or allegiances. I even know of a few members who hardly ever post here any more because of this. If you have an opinion on whats going on, just say it, no need to create this influence of mentioning members who allegedly dont post here anymore because 'several of us have noticed on previous occasions' what the general 'perception' is. That is in the past, you could have mentioned it then. I disagree that I got away with this purely because of allegiances, Ian was perfectly aware of my spamming and did not choose to warn me. In different ways I have tried to make the board a better place since I started posting here (Whether or not it worked), if I was a mod I would also give a certain amount of leeway to forum members who've attempted to contribute, especially over such a long amount of time. In my opinion, everyone should be treated equally. Therefore, if Admin has decided the spamming has been "excessive", everyone involved should be warned about it, or nobody at all.;) If we should all be treated equally, should you be treated the same as a brand new member? It's down to the administrators and mods what "excessive" spamming is (Reminder: I was warned) and up to them whether or not to take action. At the end of the day, nobody's been banned, or temporarily banned, Ive been warned just like others have, Ive spammed just as much as others who havent been mentioned besides Emily, yet my name is the only one thrown into the 'favouritism' bracket because Ive been here so long. I wasn't the only one to get away with it.
Jay Niguez
And to be honest I'd really like to see some more serious discussions, but by now I normally avoid most of the serious topics that pop up from time to time. Why? Mostly because everytime I found a topic that I really wanted to post in, it had already turned into a huge fight. I remember that I came here one day, saw a topic and thought it was really worth participating, but didn't have the time to write everything down (because I do want to make sure, that my argumentation in English is comprehensible and therefore I usually need a little more time to actually write my posts). When I came back to that topic later to finally post, it had already turned into another fight and the things that were said were just beyond a "heated discussion", they were disgusting. That and the fact that many topics were replied to with "Fuck off/You're retarded/Are you bli/bla/blubb..........." just made me avoid most of the discussions on here, so I turn to chat threads and at times mindless spam instead of voicing my opinion. I'm pretty sure, I'm not the only one.Period. This is why I stayed (and sometime still stay) away from posting in the forum and just "chat" via the VMs.
an angel
You havent been blamed as much as Emily, neither has Will, why isnt that considered a double standard? Well my point originally was just to point out to Ren that you had spammed as much as Emily had, I thought it was unfair that your spam was considered "okay"... and yes, Will and I are to be blamed for it too, and I think someone did mention us earlier in the thread. I think its been made clear Im finished with spamming, Ive told Julia and Ren before that its actually really boring, I guess the fact that I wont cause any further harm spamming means theres no real point blaming me further. It has been mentioned on more than one occasion. It was also relevant to this particular discussion. It would serve no purpose to go into any further details. Conveinant. Gitta Rensolo
It hasn't happened recently until today, but I feel like I hear it all the time. It makes me, and probably other newcomers, feel like crap and boring compared to all these other oldies you go on about. I'm sorry it's not like the old days, but as Coldplay becomes more popular more younger people are likely to come on the forum, therefore leading to spam and silliness. Why are you making such a big deal about the private spamming? It was just harmless spamming on a few people's profiles. We only did it to people who were in our little spam group with the exception of a few noobs. It was amusing to us, if it wasn't to you then fine. It's not affecting you in any way, so it can't possibly be bothering you that much. I wish everyone would stop gaining up on Emily. It was just a few innocent bumps, it's not like she filled the whole lounge with shitty threads. I agree with her about the lounge not exactly being the most fun place before the spam fest started. It's the holidays and people are most likely to get bored thus leading to spam and random bumps. All those spam threads from the spam fest about a week ago were gone after an hour or less, so I don't really see why you would be so angry about that. I can agree with you guys about that smiley Alexa kept posting. I'm sorry, but it's annoying to see a huge stupid smiley every time I enter a thread. All together though, I think you guys really need to calm down about this whole thing. It's really not that bad... No offence to Julia, but how is this spamming any worse then her "Yes I am a moderator" meme thing? To be fair, I found that kinda of annoying, but I never said anything about it because I didn't even care that much. Yes, I do realize that was about 5 months ago, but I don't see how it's any different then what's going on now. Spam is spam. I don't mean to hurt your feelings with this Julia, but I just understand why you wanting someone banned just because they spammed when you do it to. I had the best reply to this but the board crashed and I lost it all :bigcry: Ok.....guys the main thing I was complaining about was the fact that old SENSELESS threads created by aliases (which makes those threads senseless) were bumped yesterday....it was just annoying...super annoying....not that only aliases are annoying, threads created by those aliases some months ago which are totally out of context right now is most annoying. this was the main thing that was pissing me off yesterday and that's why I created this thread. when I think about that spam that was going on some days ago which happened to fool the mods and esp. me at the beginning...I thought this was rather fun....but only if it happens once and not again and again and again, because it would become boring and annoying. and seriously....do you really think I want anybody to be banned, because of a crappy reason like this?:wtf: I was rather being a bit sarcastic in this thread title, because of Ian's sticky thread about spam and ban some days ago... I don't want this board to be totally serious...I just added in one of my first posts in this thread that I liked it back in 2006 when we had many interesting things to talk about-....but I guess we've talked about everything so there is nothing to talk about anymore...:wacky: oh and about my "Yes, I am a moderator" thing....as far as I can remember it was something around 2 threads which actually had some kind of sense....as long as there is a sense in a thread it is ok....but blank threads and posts over and over again or "sdkfjsdlfkhjas" threads and posts over and over again are no fun and have no sense. my "Yes I am a moderator" joke was fun at first, but atfer some days it got boring and I stopped it (as you can see in my avi:freak:) so, please guys.....I was not being that serious in this thread as some of you might think:facepalm:

MK
Am I the only thinking these things might have something to do with the fact that It's the holiday. People tend to have a lot of time on the holidays and that of course leads to meaningless spamming... Hope that explains my theory  I was bored to tears last week and the week before that, with no ideas what to do. It was so bad that I didn't even want to do things I am interested in. A few days ago I finally decided to put an end to boredom and it's working. I started doing useful/interesting/fun things, for me it's practicing physics, maths, or reading. It'll probably be different for somebody else, but try to find something you care about at least a bit. Think about your day. If you were occupied with something for an hour more than yesterday, that's good. See if you can improve even more and keep that in your mind when you wake up the next day. Also a piece of advice that I didn't believe in at first when I heard it, but it's true... the Internet doesn't cure boredom. Turn off your computer. Usually when Im on Coldplaying I do other things, I dont enjoy reading books, so I read news or articles. I like maths and physics, but not enough to study it everytime Im bored, because simply, it can be a chore if you cant figure out an equation, and although its stimulating, its not going to get me anywhere. I made a topic the other day about hating when people complain that their bored, well, we have the internet before us, unlimited access to tons of information, we really shouldnt be getting bored. MK
I didn't mean the Internet or using the computer is generally boring (like right now it isn't for me), but when I'm bored it's a lot more useful to turn it off.
