Applauding what?

Um, probably me :blank:

I didnt do any of my spamming as disrespect to you or Ian, I just honestly dont see how much work it could actually be. Isnt it just like deleting a load of junk emails? Just ticking boxes? Even the worst hits couldnt have taken more than a few mins.

When I modded on another forum, it was a different forum type but deleting spam was very straightforward.

Nah, i know you just joined for that day only so no offense taken reillo :lips:. What i found disrespectful was some spam threads with a title like " haha, we're making you mods work  " and other threads like that. During the last spam spray i found poor josce trying to deal alone with all the spam and i had to help her remove some threads because she was really tired and fed up with that and i can really understand her.

Yeah most of the time is like that but keeping an eye on the spammers can be annoying and sometimes we have to do it one thread at the time cos the board crashes and gets really slow if we merge all those threads into one to save time.

yeah, we can't merge threads anymore :(

and Julie, this is not about oldies against newbies... there are great newbies and great oldies, but there are lame newbies and oldies too. For me it's just about realizing that the same joke (in this case the spamming) gets boring after some days

sincerely,

to the long post from Knight Of Cydonia

/and possibly applaud sarcastically

to the whole forum at the moment.

I don't know I need sleep.

I'm lame :smug:

oh! *applauds sarcastically*

if you don't have something to add why don't you go to the lounge games?

and Julie, this is not about oldies against newbies...

Its kinda got like that. Maybe Im biased being an oldie, but I dont think the 'newbies' helped by being overly defensive, feel ostracised and try to take away my right to complain.

Thats my favourite right.

But thats all I have to say about that (<--Forest Gump) I bumped an old topic about the idea of putting Members threads in another subforum, just so this place can look cleaner. We can click on The Lounge and see TOPICs, not basically what are peoples profile page (Same thing as a persons Facebook comments page).

Its in the coldplaying.com forum.

I'm lame :smug:

oh! *applauds sarcastically*

Yeah this is what I meant in my last post.

I do find bumping old threads to be very annoying, and I can see how all these pointless posts and threads can be annoying... but I don't see how anything is going to change. And nothing's stopping anyone from making serious topics, but maybe there's nothing to talk about that hasn't been covered before?

Nah, i know you just joined for that day only so no offense taken reillo :lips:.

Actually, Reilly took part in the spam threads at least three different times. He even did it after that big warning from Ian, and nothing happened to him. There seems to be a bit of a double standard here... since Reilly's an older member, he's not getting any of the blame. Emily's getting all of the blame for this however, even though she and Reilly BOTH started the spam thread thing at the same time. I'm not saying this just to make Reilly look bad, I just think you shouldn't blame only one person. In fact, I've spammed about as much as Emily and Reilly have and I'm as much to blame for it as they are.

I don't mind people bumping old threads when they actually bump one interesting thread where people can post and add something but when they just bump one thread that was stupid to beging with then it's just annoying.

There's always something to talk about but people prefer to spam instead so that's why i don't post that much lately and i'm sure some others feel the same way too.

I saw Reilly spamming 2 weeks ago when Emily started this spam fest. I told her in a nice way to please stop but some days later she did it again in the coldplay section ( with you i believe? I'm not sure cos i wasn't online but the mod who removed those spam threads from the coldplay section told me about it). I didn't warn Reilly because i've known him for a long time and spamming isn't really his style. He's one of the members who has made most of the serious threads on this board in the past and he has actually criticised the mindless spam too in other opportunities so i assumed he was just playing along. I think he said that himself some posts above.

I posted as a mid-teen, its got nothing to do with age, I just understand how it doesnt get boring. I did a LOT of spamming one night (Like literal spam, 100 threads with basically the same title), then Jo let everyone spam for 20mins and it became spam night, that was fun because it was just chaos. Then the next night I did it again for like 30 threads, it wasnt fun, at all. I even had a go at spamming one of the personal profiles, to see what you get out of it, and after 10mins I was like, whats with these guys?

Im not angry about it, I just dont get it.

I think it's just like the first alias day. The first time was lots of fun and everyone created an alias ( except me cos i took a long break and i joined back that same day and i was totally lost but it was fun anyway) but the other alias days were just boring and lame. I think Reilly tried it to see what it feels like to spam like a troll and sure it was fun the first time but then the second time wasn't that much fun and rather boring.

And unlike reilly, the rest of you seem to actually enjoy all the spam so that's why i'm asking you to please stop for the reasons i mentioned in previous posts.

And for the record, i would've warned you too kels if i had seen you spamming with random threads in public just like i did with emily and will ( because i only saw those 2 spamming when i logged in the other day) I simply wasn't around cos i just can't be here 24/7 but i'm not the only mod around and i trust the other mods will give a proper warning if they see the spam getting out of control especially if it happens among regular members.

I don't want to point a finger but the one i've seen spamming the most is Emp3 despite of the previous warnings, so if you want me to make it official then i'll say it : Please Emily, Will, Kelsie, Julie, Reilly , etc. stop with the public spam, it's getting annoying :disappointed:

I wasn't really aware of the private spam but i don't mind if it's between your friends and if they're ok with that but spamming newbies isn't cool. I hope it's all clear now and you know i like you kels but i just had to put my mod hat on.

Exactly, I agree.

Actually, I'm pretty sure Reilly spammed to have fun as much as the rest of us did. Just so you know.

Don't worry, I don't think I'm going to spam again. Especially not the newbies, that was a really dumb idea.

I warned Emp3 ( Emily i guess? ) twice via PM to please stop with the spam but she just didn't listen. She just wanted to know how much she had to spam to get banned so personally i don't have respect for her posts since all she seems to do is spam and bump old threads with the intention to keep spaming. I have no idea if she's still trying to get banned or not. And she did fill the first page with shitty threads 2 weeks ago and last week too with the help of other member ( will?). Again, how is that fun? Care to explain? If you are bored then turn off your pc and do something else and if not then try creating a thread where people can actually participate and voice their opinion about a" x " topic. I personally found it pretty pathetic to do this "spam fest" online just cos someone is bored and think is the most fun thing to do here. Oh and it was gone after 1 or 2 hours because we had to remove it all and trust me, removing so many threads is not much fun.

I'm aware that some mods spam too but most of that spam is in one thread only and with a serie of posts in the same thread but i've never seen julia or any other mod posting like 30 threads in less than 5 minutes with a topic like: "uihdsgfuakh". There's a big difference there.

By the way, why do you care so much Julie? I haven't really seen you posting spam unless i'm missing out. If you want me to mention names then i have to mention Emp3 who is the most persistent of the regular spammers i've seen here even after getting a warning. Feel free to reply cos i'm all in if you want to debate.

Ok I think I’ve realised that I seriously need to make an apology for all the public spam. I would just like to make it clear that I don’t hate the mods or anything like that… I now realise that it pretty much has gone too far and has turned into being repetitive and bloody annoying. I am sorry for making a mess that you lot have to clear up and I’m telling you now that I will not do it again. Ever. I am definitely going to stay true to my word on that. What I do now regret is that I don’t know many of you mods personally because all you know of me is my annoying spam side. I suppose keeping to a tight knit group on here has stopped me from expanding into other groups. Maybe I should change that.

Anyway, I realise that this is probably a bit of a belated apology which I can only blame myself for but I really am sorry.

I suppose keeping to a tight knit group on here has stopped me from expanding into other groups.

I wouldn't have said you have necessarily kept yourself to a "tight-knit" group, but they certainly do exist on here, unfortunately, and I think they've always been one of the biggest problems as far as the board is concerned.

If members weren't excluded from conversations or threads, or totally ignored, maybe other "groups" wouldn't end up manifesting themselves.

As for all the spamming and aliases, I think most of it has been pretty benign, so I think the reaction has been a bit OTT.;)

Furthermore, if people start getting banned for "spamming", there'll be hardly anyone left on the board before long.:dozey:

I'm a little late for this, but I'd still like to say something, because I do realise that I've been posting a lot of nonsense over the past few days (even if I did not participate in that spam orgy with the random threads.) But hey, I got what I deserved and I personally hope not only the spam threads, but also the profile spamming stops, because it's gotten out of hand (no, I'm not talking about the spamming of my profile and spamming the newbies wasn't okay from the start.)

And to be honest I'd really like to see some more serious discussions, but by now I normally avoid most of the serious topics that pop up from time to time.

Why? Mostly because everytime I found a topic that I really wanted to post in, it had already turned into a huge fight.

I remember that I came here one day, saw a topic and thought it was really worth participating, but didn't have the time to write everything down (because I do want to make sure, that my argumentation in English is comprehensible and therefore I usually need a little more time to actually write my posts). When I came back to that topic later to finally post, it had already turned into another fight and the things that were said were just beyond a "heated discussion", they were disgusting.

That and the fact that many topics were replied to with "Fuck off/You're retarded/Are you bli/bla/blubb..........." just made me avoid most of the discussions on here, so I turn to chat threads and at times mindless spam instead of voicing my opinion.

I'm pretty sure, I'm not the only one.

This is not an excuse, I just felt the need to say something, because I do realise that I might come across as a person that just spams along and doesn't really have an opinion of her own.

I've always maintained that that shouldn't happen (whatever the topic) if people are prepared to discuss things in a civilised manner and not get "personal".;)

That's true. As I've said, at least the "mindless spam" is almost always benign, which is why I don't have a problem with it personally. If I don't want to participate in it, I can just ignore it or those responsible for it.;)

Don't worry, I don't think I'm going to spam again. Especially not the newbies, that was a really dumb idea.

I honestly didn't see that cos i was too busy removing spam but i think he probably did it because you all were doing it as well and i'm sure it was fun the first time but it got annoying the other times( just like the alias day).

Nah don't worry kels, and you know i don't mind your normal spamming (i still can't believe you got 20k+ posts in less than 2 months haha) but the public and private spamming can be a bit too much oh and thanks for understanding.

I think this reply is very mature of you and i'm glad you realised that all the spam can be really annoying and not only for mods but for regular members ( newbies included) that aren't part of this spam group. I didn't really mind too much the first time we had this massive spam (even though it was annoying to remove) because i thought it was a one time only but then it happened again and again so that's why i had to warn you and some other members too and i have to say it's nothing personal, i was just trying to do my job. I know i'm pretty laid back and i prefer joking around instead of being a serious mod but i think if i was just a regular poster, i'd feel annoyed to see the whole board filled with random spam. ( not to mention that i'd feel unwelcome and a bit annoyed if i was a newbie and i got like 300 notifications from guys i don't even know or talked before)

I'm pretty sure you're a nice gal and i have nothing against you or hate you( i think i read one of your posts saying i hated you or something in a different thread). I don't really hate anyone here, i dislike some people for their behaviour but if they change that then i'm cool with them and so far the only side of you i've seen is your crazy spam side so i had a very bad first impression of you cos i don't really know you and we haven't really talked before. Thank you for understanding and i'm sorry if i was too harsh.

Anyway, I'm Ren nice to meet you Emily :nice:

It was pretty annoying actually and i can show you one example of what i'm talking about.

^Now imagine that sort of spam but x 200. It was hard to remove because we can't really merge threads without crashing the board.

I don't think it was over the top to be honest, especially if we consider they included newbies to their spam game and even some regulars were upset and annoyed with the private VM spam. There's one official warning in case you missed it.

http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3874856#post3874856

I don't think Julia was serious about a ban but we considered a 24hrs ban after 3 warnings. I think a temporal ban could be a wake up call for some members when they don't change their ways and we were hoping for the same effect if the spammers continued with this "game".

curious : how do you define spam?

Well I guess if it's excessive spamming that's the issue, I can understand.

However, I'm pretty certain that virtually every member will have spammed in one way or another at some time or other.

curious : how do you define spam?

That's a good point too, as I've also always maintained that this definition is totally subjective.;)

curious : how do you define spam?

Mindless threads with no topic and no intention other than fill the first page of the lounge( or any other section of the board) with threads in this case, in other cases is just bot's advertisement ( we actually ban those )

Well I guess if it's excessive spamming that's the issue, I can understand.

However, I'm pretty certain that virtually every member will have spammed in one way or another at some time or other.

Yup that was the case, more than 200 or 300 threads in less than 20 minutes. The other kind of spam is benign like you said.

nice :), it's not like every topic must be super serious or anything like that, it's just about the spam as Ren defined it in the last post

I'm seriously starting to wonder about things when I read all this. First of all, the so called spam threads was an honest mistake from my side I'm seriously sorry if it offended anyone. This will sound really silly but the reason I made those threads was because other people had done it and it seemed like a 'cool' thing. That sounds like I'm being totally judgmental and a sock but at the time it wasn't anything I felt anyone was serious about, in my eyes the whole board was doing it.

Through this thread I really see that what I was doing was a stupid thing. I really don't want to be seen around as an 'unserious' guy around here.

I also want to add that the thread that Ian made had a picture from the that spamming night with several threads created by me. That one we actually got permission from a moderator (Viri) and I don't really see the point hanging out mine, Julie and Eddies name in front of everybody.

I also agree a little with Kelsie about the fact that some people got this taken in another way because they're another person.

I even remember one night when Reilly actually spammed as a 'fun' thing just too see how quick Julia would be to cleaning it up. Is that what kind example an older person on this forum should make? I have nothing against both Reilly and Julie I just didn't thought that was cool at all.

I think the problem is that people here seem to be afraid to say anything whether is something serious or non-serious so they don't respond at all.

I really agree on this, I'm having this problem myself. Sometimes it's impossible to tell if the thread is serious or unserious. And you're afraid too look like a jerk if you do either of those things in a thread that is the opposite. From the beginning I even thought this was one was an unserious thread.

I also agree a little with Kelsie about the fact that some people got this taken in another way because they're another person.

I'm not going to mention any names, as that only creates conflict, but this is something several of us have noticed (and remarked upon) on previous occasions.

Whether it's flatly denied or not, the perception is that certain members appear to be able to get away with a lot more than others, purely because of favouritism or allegiances.

I even know of a few members who hardly ever post here any more because of this.

In my opinion, everyone should be treated equally.

Therefore, if Admin has decided the spamming has been "excessive", everyone involved should be warned about it, or nobody at all.;)

Also, I have no idea whether it was meant as a "joke" or not, but I don't think it's very clever of anyone to create threads entitled "You should be banned".

Surely this sort of thing could all have been dealt with behind-closed-doors?:dozey:

Therefore, if Admin has decided the spamming has been "excessive", everyone involved should be warned about it, or nobody at all.;)
