Posting something decent with some effort takes time, and braincells! It also leaves other people something to read, and maybe inspire some conversation for them.

 

Consistently retarded spam posts that will be forgotten about within 5mins doesnt take time to make or read, leaving more time to be bored.

 

Yes, but you can make a nice thread, with a cool thing to talk about, and those go unnoticed, or creates a fight. Maybe spastic threads are needed once in a while.

I'm not saying the forum should be filled with them, I just say that we should be allowed to have our little fun.

I know that my behaviour on here has changed withing the years....maybe I would have done similar things, but I didn't dare to because I respected the oldies too much and deep in my mind I would have known how stupid it is-----these kids nowadays don't show any respect...:snobby:

 

I dont feel much like that, when I started here I just had some form of respect for any poster. Even if I was going to make a thread or post which was ultimately useless, Id at least try and make it entertaining, funny, contreversial, so it was worth posting.

 

An unwritten rule I guess, dont say anything if youve got nothing decent to say, of course nowadays that means literally posting a blank post-And some people do that TWO or THREE times in a row, on many different occasions, FOR NO REASON. Or when you see someones replied to a thread, and you click on it, and theyre response is ":dozey:" or an image of a big smiley. Its like, why?

 

I stopped caring for the most part, because I probably wont stick around long (again). But sometimes it has been annoying, and unlike what Id usually do, Ive kept my mouth shut.

So why should I, or anyone else, try to make a decent thread when the people who post most regularly just want to chat shit, or chat about themselves, all the time?

Threads always lose track, it's very rare to see a thread in the lounge in which the first few pages relate to the new posts.

I get your point, really, but speaking about myself, to me, this is a big distraction, I avoid 2% of my problems (yah, pathetic, but still, it's something) and being silly kinda works..

A balance should exist, YES. But having the forum being invaded by spam threads does not mean that you should stop trying to talk about something serious.

ha random.....but this reminds me of that time when creating serious threads used to feel like a competition....I think it must have been back in 2006 when you, Nik, Sam, me.....created many many interesting topics a day.....I think you were known as the king of these threads....:wacky:

Its like posts that consist of more then one sentence get these sarcastic OTT responses, like Monster "We must talk serious. Dead serious" yadda yadda.

-Those were different times. We call them 'serious' threads now but its only in comparison with what we're seeing now (I made a popular topic about whats under everyones beds). When there were a lot of topics about different random things, whether important or not, you could just make a new thread about anything.

 

It came naturally, its why I made at least a new thread every day.

And when talking about how we need more thought provoking threads, it feels like people like me and Julia are trying to be the Topic Nazi's, it should be implied that we want a balance and its not as if Im judging everyone by what they post- Ive been just as bad as anyone on the spam front.

Now our posts have been multiplied, yet its like Ive barely seen anything tonight (Which is why Ive resorted to checking old threads out).

I'm willing to have a serious conversation :/

most of the time you can't find anything in any of those 2000 posts, just smileys and posts using capital letters, etc.

 

I'm no one to judge anyone else because I never create serious threads (I notice the language barrier when I want to say what I think in more than 3 lines and I just can't) and my postcount is very big (I don't know why, I stopped posting in the lounge games and WoM games sections a long time ago), but sometimes it gets pretty boring when all you see in the first page of the lounge is just spam

The last time I whined about how shit the forum was getting, we eventually got the Games Sub-forum. Ian said he'd never consider doing that for the Names threads, but he also originally didnt want to consider it for the Games threads. Hell I'll just look that topic up and bump it, see what happens.

In a way, the aliases and spam posts are kind of a logical development. It's been what? 6 months? a year? we've gone now where anything thoughtful, intelligent, or serious would be immediately responded to with an insult.

 

If saying what you mean means that you immediately get called a **** or **** or idiot by a very small group of individuals that no one seems willing to get rid of, it makes sense that the group of people who were most sensitive to the abuse would stop posting anything thoughtful and turn to pure spam, or would want to hide behind aliases to put a bit of space between them and the abuse.

 

I miss all the big philosophical posts too. Boring spam is boring, and the result is boredom. But we probably won't be able to deal with one problem entirely until the other problem is dealt with.

I can't say if the **** developement has anything to do with this boring spam stuff.....but it annoys me as much as those kids

I don't think it's conscious. It's more like when you put a mouse in an electrified maze. If you shock them every time they do something, they're going to avoid it even if they don't remember why.

 

If you get insulted every time you say something thoughtful it's eventually going to have a similar effect. If saying thoughtful things is subconsciously something to be avoided all that's really left is spam. How can you be insulted for something you didn't say in an empty post?

 

Some of it may be internalizing the abuse too- give silly spam answers to intelligent posts before the next person can respond with something nastier.

I didnt see the abuse thing you are referring to. But I do feel if you try to actually express yourself, people don't respond well (And you are lucky if they respond at all). Its strange thinking that I used to write posts that were +500 words (Guestimated) and get a positive response, now I just feel like Im not being silly enough and killing peoples spammy buzz trip.

 

But good points on both posts Mo. Its weird how people who've been here a while can take a step back and look at it as an overview.

That may be the reason for increased spamming, but the level of thought provoking topics before the holidays werent high either, and now with boredom on top of it, its like the extreme spamming forum.

 

But its not just the blatant spam of blank posts and smileys, its that theres very little actual discussion. Like I just said, there was a time when I could write 500 words and it wasnt a big deal, now its like 200 is :shocked2:

 

And Ive noticed reading the amount of spam on here has made me brainwashed and unable to express some feelings without using a smiley. Its just like :sick:
