What the fuck is wrong with people?

Featured Replies

I'm sitting here at work (I'm a security guard so I am at the exit to the building), as people leave I smile at them and if they say goodnight, I'll wish them the same thing. But the vast majority of people when I smile at them, rather than sharing a few seconds of pleasantness with another person choose to stare at me for a few seconds like I am a piece of shit, while walking out of the building and completely forget I was even there as they walk through the door. This genuinely annoys me so much, I could easily sit there with a face like an arse ignoring them as they walk out, but no I actually try to be nice to people and they don't even give a shit. I dunno if it's me that has an old style mentality or what but I get actual joy from people being polite (not because they feel like they have to but because they want to) to each each other, does that just not happen for most people, if we can't even connect with each other on such a basic level then what the fuck is the point?

I'm not saying you should go round saying hi to everyone, that would make you a lunatic...but it's little bits of niceness and tiny acts of selflessness that make me smile. Am I really in a minority here? Are most people really as self obsessed as they seem to be?

I must say that for the majority of people who are like this there are still a handful of genuinely nice people who are friendly etc, but they really do get lost in a sea of shit, it's lucky those people exist or I'd just lose faith in humanity completely.

I don't even know why I made this a thread, I just need to get it off my chest before I snap and punch the next person in the face who walks past.

The world's a cold, shit place. Things like this also annoy me, is it really that much of a fucking effort just to smile and nod in approval?!

But people get like that when they are in crowded environments. Like you'd never say hello to a person when walking through a town, but in the country it would be fine. I realise that's a different situation, but maybe in their heads, they've said their goodbyes to a lot of people when leaving the office.

Still doesn't mean they aren't ****s though.

Those people lack education and intelligence, that's all.

Just another example of "broken Britain", I'm afraid................................. :dozey:

As I said, you would definitely benefit from some "anger management" classes.:stunned:

Oh fuck off Mark, don't turn this thread into a Daily Mail recruiting pool. This happens all over the world, what exactly makes it unique to Britain and what about it implies anything about a "Broken Britain"? Is that just the general term for anything negative in England?

You wont answer my questions so don't bother responding.

Humour is often a sign of agression, you're right. Me making a joke, I should be locked up!

I think that some people are just assholes and are stupid because clearly they take your expression of being kind as they leave as a threat, which makes no sense.

I think I'm one of those people.

And it's not like I'm trying to be rude or that I don't appreciate it when someone is trying to be friendly, it's just that I'm very timid, so I find it awkward.

This happens all over the world.

That's the point - I don't believe it does, generally. From my experience, people in other countries are generally far more courteous and polite. The funniest thing about this is that you're complaining about people being rude, but you're about as rude as they come, and you don't even seem to realise it.:dozey:

Clearly you haven't travelled much then and clearly you are choosing to ignore the comments from people in this thread who don't live in "Broken Britain".

What's really funny is that you can't tell I'm not actually rude at all, not when it comes down to it.

I used to be so shy I couldn't even go to the till in a shop alone, I'd still smile at people and be polite though, maybe you're looking into it wrongly, if someone smiled at you or held a door open for you, you wouldn't smile back?

Or maybe you're just a dick, haha.

Wrong.:dozey:

Well in that case you should be up for an Oscar.

Seriously, how can anyone in their right mind actually like Mark?

I wanted to have a decent discussion about this but I guess that's not possible because I'm always wrong and I am always abusive and I shouldn't be allowed an opinion because Mark says so.

Just ignore him.

On this topic what I find extremely irritating is how when you hold a door open for someone they stroll right through and don't even bother to thank you or anything.

I do thank people when they hold the door open for me, and I'm not exactly sure if I always smile back when someone smiles at me. Sometimes I'm in a hurry and don't notice that they smiled at me until I've gone past them.

You definitely have major issues.:stunned:

I don't like to acknowledge the peasants. I hate it when they're rude and don't open the door for me, I have to wait until someone does.

Just ignore him.

Good advice, but he just can't help himself.:P

I don't think it has something with the country or something like that.-.--some people have issues and they even can't smile back at you if you smile at them....and I think there are enough people who either don't notice it or don't appreciate it....although a smile can really lighten up your day...I see this at work everday

The term "Broken Britain is probably why a lot of people don't acknowledge eachother, they're too afraid of getting happy slapped and then stabbed, and then deported.

sorry if this is a stupid question, but what exactly is Broken Britain?

I haven't really heard about it
