The Steven Spielberg Appreciation Thread

Featured Replies

I don't care what other people think - he's the greatest thing to come out of Hollywood EVER! Jaws, Close Encounters, E.T, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan- ARRGGHHH he's just too bloody good and that's just scraping the surface!

This thread is to discuss his movies, heck you can even discuss the ones he's produced!

Just like to state that for me his top 3 movies are -

1. Schindler's List

2. Duel

3. Saving Private Ryan

About time the great man got a Coldplaying Appreciation thread!

Yes, he's a legend.

"Back To The Future" is my fave all-time film.

Directed by Robert Zemeckis (another great guy) of course - Spielberg's former protege!

But of course, it's still regarded as a Spielberg film, as he was the executive producer.;)

He completely ruined any and all aspects of War of the Worlds. He should be deeply ashamed of that.

The vast majority of films which have Mr Spielberg's name in the credits are bound to be good....unless it's Transformers and The Flintstones!

Yes - The Flintstones was dreadful.:dozey:

I never even bothered seeing Transformers.

No! That was one fucking great film! I hate Tom Cruise but he is great in that film and Minority Report. A great modern version of a great novel. How can a man of his genius be ashamed of himself?!

That film is absolute crap. Tom Cruise used to be a good actor, but he's just a nuisance now.

I take it you've read the novel if you mentioned its greatness. I didn't think anyone who read the novel could possibly enjoy that movie. Did you read the book before or after seeing the movie?

Schindler's List + Steven Spielberg = $$$

You say that but Spielberg gave all the money he earnt from that film to charity and to setting up one of the Shoah Foundations, which remembered those victims of the Holocaust. What a beautiful, moving film it is. My respect for Neeson, Kingsley, Spielberg and all those involved increased 10 fold.

My favorites are definitly INDIANA JONES! OMG, I love those movies, specialy the 1st! I even have a poster on my bedroom wall... :D

But I liked, Back to the Future, E.T., Artificial Intelligence, Schindler's List, The Terminal, Catch Me If You Can, and I LOVED Empire of the Sun! :D

Everyone rightly loves Raiders but my personal favourite was Last Crusade! I'd rank them

1 - Last Crusade

2 - Raiders

3 - Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

4 - Temple of Doom

Uncle Stephen :awesome: That man represents a part of my childhood! ET, Indiana Jones, Close Encounters of the Third Kind (that fascinates me when I was a kid (still does XD!), Hook....

His 'grown-up' movies like Schindler, Private Ryan, Catch me if you can, are also marvellous but to me, he has never been better that when he makes movies that just enhances your imagination. This one of the rare true 'magical' realisator to me...

A lot of people agree with your view. While he may have had his more critical successes with Private Ryan and Schindler's List his true magic lies in the ability to wow and take the audience in, allowing imaginations to run free.

I don't like him.

That's cool. I'm not judging you!

How could you like Kingdom of the Crystal Skull more than Temple of Doom? :surprised: That movie was horrific! At least Temple of Doom didn't have Indiana flying through the desert in a refrigerator! The first two are in the right position, though :nice:

I don't think that anywhere in that post I said anything about Spielberg keeping the money, or rolling around in the money he made from it. It was a big film with a big director and it made money and that's what i've conveyed in my post.

:D Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was ridiculous and at times overt the top but ultimately fun to watch! Much more fun than Temple of Doom!

Jurassic Park.

Of course I'm biased because I love dinosaurs. And I know the film is extremely inaccurate etc etc but I love it. Spielberg is da man,
