I've always pronounced it "cue-pon" but I mostly hear it being pronounced as "coo-pon" which annoys me.

Coo-pon really annoys me as well.

cue, as in pool cue?

I know "coo-pon" makes more sense since it looks like it should be pronounced that way, but it makes me cringe. :blank:

I say it like the self-service machines do, in a robotic voice of "please insert your coo-pon into the slot" before "Unexpected Item in Bagging area"

I'm pretty sure it's the 'cue' she found weird :rolleyes:

cue-pon, and I have one friend who always rages at me whenever I say it that way. but too bad for her! :P

I say "coo". And that's the CORRECT way.

 

"cue" or "q", is a variant developed by us silly Americans apparently. See the correct pronunciation in the link below, and the "Pronunciation Note" below the definition where it blames [some of] us silly Americans for the variant.
