Oh. My. GOSH.

OK, so I stayed up all night (yes, all night) watching Season 2. Here are my thoughts, placed here in list form so I don't get them all confused.

1. So many people's avatars and sigs here make SO much more sense now. :lol:

2. So many people spending time to watch this also makes so much more sense now. Why on Earth have I not seen this before? This modernized version is remarkable. I love the little nuances from the books that they put in there. (e.g. Watson's blog titles; "The Geek Interpreter" instead of "The Greek Interpreter" and "The Speckled Blonde" instead of "The Speckled Band.") I'm also glad that, like in the movies with RDJ and Jude Law, that Watson isn't made to look like a complete idiot. I mean...wow.

3. I think it's because it's modernized that I can allow myself to think of it as a separate entity, rather than a weird rendition of the books. I find that I really can't be annoyed with all the differences for the reason that it's supposed to be different, y'know.

4. If I wasn't attracted to Benedict Cumberbatch already, I definitely am now. :dazzled: Tall, lean, with dark hair and light eyes. Yes. And that voice of his...OMG THE VOICE. :dazzled:

5. Speaking of voice, does he also speak that quickly in real life? My goodness, there were times when my head would just spin because he was jabbering at 100 miles a minute. I already have to deal with Matt Bellamy being a fast talker. Does he have to be one, too?

6. I don't remember his name, but I also quite fancy the man who plays Moriarty. :wacky: I know his character is evil, but it's brilliantly evil, and he looks good doing it. I mean, what am I supposed to do?

Of course, there were things I didn't like about it (Who the hell is Molly!?), but overall, I was highly entertained, and I'll definitely come to this thread more often.

So glad you really like it! You must see series 1. The first episode (A Study in Pink) is absolutely brilliant, and is still my favorite to this day, followed very, very closely by The Great Game. :wacky: The writing is clever and the characterizations are pretty fantastic.

I wouldn't say it's a perfect show (there are some things about it that bug me), but I still love it so much. :heart:

He's a bit of a fast talker, but not as fast as Sherlock. :lol: He's also really eloquent and articulate, which you'll see if you check out some interviews.

MORIARTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY :bigcry: My love for his character is ridiculous.

Andrew Scott plays him, and he's actually one of the sweetest, kindest human beings ever. :wacky:

^ If we're going to talk about stuff that bugs us, lemme just say that I hate their portrayal of Mycroft. I can understand his much more frequent presence in Sherlock's affairs, and I can take the fact that the guy playing him (who, if I'm not mistaken, also takes part in writing the shows) looks nothing like Mycroft as he is described in the books. (Now, in "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, I thought casting Stephen Fry for that role was a VERY wise choice.) What I really can't stand is how Mycroft is almost a secondary antagonist to Sherlock, which is never how Mycroft was meant to be. The relationship between Sherlock and Mycroft was great; in fact, Sherlock often looked up to him, in a way.

That's my favourite, too, because it is the one to indroduce us to the wonderful world of SH but also featured possibly the most interesting case. Have you seen the alternative version? There were many things that lacked description and needed to be elaborated on, but I can't help noticing Sherlock stood up to a lot of change, too. He was like more bold, I think he was speaking louder and his appearance was a bit different, especially the haircut. He seemed less refrained than the one in the rest of the series and I think I liked him better. That's not to say I don't like that other one, quite the contrary, my love for his character is immense. There, just my humble contribution to this lovely thread.

@ Violet Sparks:

I only began watching it when Series 2 started over here on the BBC and after about the first 15 minutes i was like, "OMFG how the hell have i never seen this show before?!" :shocked2: From that point onwards, i was basically obsessed, not just with the show but also with Benedict Cumberbatch, and this is from someone who didn't even really know who he was until i started watching Sherlock! But OMG he is beyond amazing - i can't imagine any other actor playing the part like him. I also love Martin Freeman as John and the great chemistry between the two of them. Andrew Scott is also brilliant as Moriarty!! :wacky:

Umm, i'm sure there's loads more i could say about how fantastic this show is, but right now i can't think of anything else to say so i'll leave it here. :escaping:

I have a confession to make. As much as I talked about Benedict Cumberbatch in my other post, I think I've really developed a thing for Andrew Scott. WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN :bigcry:

YES. :awesome: Nah, I adore both of them.

Dry pretzels, what bugs you about the show?

Aaaaahhh . . . these are just my humble opinions. :anxious:

For A Scandal in Belgravia, I honestly love how Moffat updated Irene Adler's character, and Lara Pulver portrayed her perfectly, but I thought it would have been a lot more satisfying if Irene had completely won and gotten away with everything, just as she had done in the original story. I couldn't help but cringe at "I am SHERlocked" (Really, Moffat? Really?) and how that was used as Irene's downfall.

Plus, that ending where Sherlock manages to infiltrate a terrorist cell and free Irene seemed really implausible. I get that he's the brilliant Sherlock Holmes and he can do ~anything~ in the world, but I still found it very unbelievable. It came out of nowhere, and I wish that Moffat wrote a more believable and less-rushed conclusion.

Okay, this is an extremely unpopular opinion, but I couldn't see any chemistry between Sherlock and John in the last two episodes of series 1. :\ (I know, I know! :embarrassed: ) I’ve re-watched the episodes so many times, but I still can’t see it. My issues were mostly with the writing, because Benedict and Martin portray their individual, respective parts fantastically, but I just wasn't convinced that these two were becoming friends. At the most, it seemed like they were just tolerating each other, and they didn't feel like a team during the cases. I know that it's probably because it was the early stages of their friendship, and Sherlock and John were still getting used to each other. Still, I wish the chemistry that was just starting in A Study in Pink had continued to grow throughout series 1. Or maybe it's just me. :shame:

I was a lot happier with series 2, because while Sherlock and John still bickered and argued, I saw that they truly enjoyed each other's company, and I was glad that John had more active roles in the cases. And while John - as much as he tries to - may not truly understand Sherlock on an emotional level (mostly because Sherlock refuses to talk about his emotions), I was more convinced that he does care about Sherlock and will do anything for him. I could almost wish that the writers had delayed Reichenbach and spent more time developing the duo's friendship/relationship.

The way it introduced us to the series and to the characters (both Sherlock and John) is one of the main reasons it's my favorite too. I have seen the alternative version, and I'm really happy that they changed the format (it was originally going to be six 60-minute episodes per series instead of three 90-minute episodes). The writing was still great, but the storyline flowed much more smoothly in the aired episode while still maintaining that suspense and intensity, especially during the final showdown between Sherlock and

the cabbie. Making Sherlock voluntarily take the pill instead of being drugged against his will was a huge improvement in showing his character and how he'll "risk his life just to prove he's clever".

(Spoilering it for Violet, just in case.) I also preferred the different "look" (cinematography, color palette) that came with the 90-minute version.

Sherlock's characterization was definitely different in the unaired pilot. He was a lot less colder and seemed a little less confident and arrogant, compared to the new Sherlock.

I don't know why people didn't like Moffat's Irene Adler?

They were saying that by having Sherlock rescue her at the end it made her a weak character - would you rather her a dead character? I mean wtf she DID drug him and then whip him, what more could you want?

I'm glad you like it Violet!

Because I'm on tumblr and I make gifs and whatnot I spend A LOT OF MY TIME watching that series, and I must have seen each episode at least 5 times, and certain scenes much more (I must have giffed the part with the handcuffs in Reichenbach at least 10 times, and the Fall itself even more fjadskl ;n; ) and it never gets old. It's just so perfectly written

Violet, if you like Andrew Scott, I'd suggest watching Blackout, it's a new series that he played a detective in (motivation: him holding a teddy bear

and if you like Benedict, I'd suggest watching almost his entire career, it's absolutely fantastic. What's better is that most of it is on Youtube!

Fortysomething - Comedy with Hugh Laurie

To the Ends of the Earth - fjdskal I just finished rewatching this last night, it's a long miniseries but it's definitely worth it. It's completely centered around him, and his acting is absolutely incredible

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aL3nIOZJDTs]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aL3nIOZJDTs[/ame]

The Last Enemy - Judging by the books you said you like, Violet, I think you'll like this a lot. It's kind of an a/u England where they made a supercomputer system to monitor the peoples's activities

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kbqCKe8Ymo]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kbqCKe8Ymo[/ame]

Wreckers - I don't know if you'll like this, tbh I didn't really, the only thing the movie had going for it was the acting by the three main cast

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8m9YkEnPNs]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8m9YkEnPNs[/ame]

Cabin Pressure - radio comedy, it's absolutely hilarious and I can't stop listening to it. Brilliant (:awesome:!) writing by John Finnemore; it's on youtube but I'd suggest just downloading it and putting it on your ipod - these downloads are safe, it's how I got my Cabin Pressure

here

Third Star - GET TISSUES BECAUSE YOU WILL CRY also it has JJ Feild in it and he's so adorable and he's also in TTEOTE

erm it looks like it was taken down from youtube? but let me know if you torrent and I can find you a link; it's well worth it if you do

Also I don't know if you use torrents, but again if you do I have a link for Stuart: A Life Backwards which was an absolute gem of a movie imo with Tom Hardy as a homeless drug addict named Stuart

THIS TOOK FOREVER TO TYPE OUT BUT I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT

^ :freak: So much stuff at once! I'm still trying to get used to "Sherlock." Slow down. :lol:

Speaking of which, ever since I watched Series 2, I've had "Stayin' Alive" stuck in my head quite often, and I always have images of Moriarty stuck in my head. I can't have one without the other. Is that bad? :uhoh:

Gah, I'm sorry if my post came off that way! I definitely don't think Irene is a weak character because she was saved by Sherlock. The argument that a character is weak because they need to be rescued is pretty ridiculous.

Sooo... "how long must "we" wait for it"? 2 years and going right?? (Series 3)

Their plan is to start filming in January, so it will probably premiere in the UK around autumn.
