Wisdom Teeth

Featured Replies

Anyone else had them out?

I had all 4 of mine taken out yesterday, now I look like a chipmunk.

Plus I have Lollapalooza in 2 days....pretty sure I'm going, high on Vicadin pills ....

should make things interesting.

Is it painful at all? I'm going to have mine removed sometime soon.

Had a tooth pulled last year, it sucked. Took half a vicodin for it and felt extremely high and never took anymore.

I've had 4 teeth pulled all in the name of orthodontics. Apparently, my mouth was "too crowded". They weren't even wisdom teeth. :dozey:

I cried on the way home, mostly because there was a lot of blood and my mouth was totally numb. It wasn't pleasant.

Yeah, I think I took half a vicodin, but I was afraid of getting addicted and didn't want to end up like House. :P

My wisdom teeth haven't even grown in yet :P

I'm really dreading having to have them pulled though, but hopefully it'll be a few more years. :anxious:

If wisdom teeth grow in straight and don't crowd your other teeth, I don't think they have to be pulled at all. Right?

I had them done at 14 and it really wasn't that bad since the roots were not deep. They put me under and when I woke up I thought when is it going to start. I threw up once, but that was it. In a week I was all better. Just eat pudding. Oh and I was on hydrocodone

I'm no dentist but I think some people are born without them.

Wisdom teeth are useless, they have to be extracted.

^^Hm...because I've had one for about a year now and it hasn't bothered me at all. My dentist didn't mention anything about having it removed.

The pain isn't during the surgery, cus I was passed out. It comes afterward. Mostly when they are still under the gums, those hurt the worst because the dentist has to literally dig them out of your gums  and so my two bottom ones were like that. I have stitches in my mouth from that. The top ones didn't hurt really because they had already came in all the way so no digging.

ohhh :(

that sounds horrible Kyra!

Yes, I woke up from a nap yesterday and my mouth was full of blood! Plus about 5 hours after surgery your lips and jaw and tongue feel about 5 times larger than what they should. So I looked RAWRtarded trying to sip a smoothie. I felt like I had Jay Z lips :(

Umm yah, I might already be addicted to vicadin

:uhoh:

And he also removed 4 teeth that were not wisdom teeth... Just saying.

Nooo...my orthodontist ordered those to be removed and they were taken out by an oral surgeon, not my dentist.

...

Well, it doesn't matter now because my teeth look fine. That was quite a few years ago.

Oh, good timing on this thread! I'm getting mine out in a week.

4 teeth pulled besides your wisdom? Hate to break it to you Kyra, but that's nothing! (Although I do sympathize with you cause it does suck).

I've had 16 teeth pulled, not including wisdom. :awesome:

2 at one point in elementary school, 4 more at a different point in elementary school, then 10 at once in 7th grade.

My mom was born without hers.

It doesn't matter who did it! =| I was trying to make a point...

Your mom is so damn lucky D:

I had mine removed a couple of years ago. I had avoided it for a long time, I didn't think I needed to since I never really had any problems other than an occasional sore throat when they would go through a growth/shifting spurt. Even though they didn't hurt, my bottom ones were growing in toward my other teeth (forward), so even though they weren't causing me problems at the time, it would eventually lead to decay and all sorts of other nasty stuff because things would get all jacked up.

So anyway, they took out all 4 at once. They gave me the laughing gas stuff, then numbed my mouth, and then started an I.V. for conscious sedation (if that is offered, DO IT). The dentist that did it was pretty awesome because on top of that, they had a tool that was like a tiny vibrating spatula, which they could slide between the gums and tooth to easily loosen the teeth, which decreases the "shock" to the tissue (i.e., no chipmunk mouth). They had difficulty with one of the teeth and I was aware of them yanking it out, pulling to and fro. It was funny because I knew what they were doing even though I was sedated, but I didn't care because I didn't feel any pain. I was like, "yay, go dentist, pull pull pull!" Of course I could only say that in my head.

After I got home (hubby drove me because of the sedation, obviously) I had to change the gauze on all 4 spots as they instructed. Of course blood starting gushing everywhere on my shirt and in the sink and I was like, "wweeeeehhhooooooo, awesome!" and my husband freaked out, but he's just a wussy like that. They prescribed a concoction of Vicodin and something else that had to be taken at certain intervals, although I hardly took any of the Vicodin because a) my pain wasn't really that bad imo, and b) I just plain don't like taking stuff like that (on the odd chance of becoming addicted). It sucked that I couldn't really eat solid food for a few days (since all of them were removed at the same time), so I just had nutrition shakes for awhile. I must say I had a better overall experience compared to my sister, she dealt with the whole chipmunk thing, dry rot (eeewww), etc.

I would say if you have to have them out, do them all at once instead of 2 at a time. Might as well get it over with instead of going through it twice.

You'll have to excuse my brain. It's a little slow tonight.

I had a tooth pulled once and I had no idea they were going to do that. :freak:

It didn't hurt though.

Umm Lauren, do you even have any teeth left :uhoh: ?

Yah, exactly! It's best to just take them all out at once I heard too.

The IV thing TOTALLY creeped me out. I don't think I'll ever try heroin because fuck, I hated seeing / feeling that needle going in my arm  lol

Erm. I still need one more baby tooth pulled out, actuially...

edit: I forgot I still had one left. lulz.

But...WHY?

Same problem as you, except I guess a lot worse.

I apparently have a really small mouth. My teeth were super crooked when I was in elementary school and middle school. Tbh I can't remember the specific reasons for the first 6 to get pulled. I think it was just to help make space. But the other 10 were pulled because my mouth was a freak. Essentially one time I went to the dentist in 7th grade and they were like well, you still have several teeth that you were supposed to lose by 2nd grade and they're not even lose yet. So we're gonna pull them out. And then 4 adult ones too cause you're mouth is just that small. And then we're gonna go up and pull a few of your teeth down/up into place.

Lauren, please smile for me now, I wanna see your teeth.

:D

Loljk.

Umm Lauren, do you even have any teeth left :uhoh: ?

 Yah that probably made it sound like I have no teeth.

I'm actually 4 adult teeth short, cause they pulled them. But you can't tell.

I've had mine removed, it hurts a bit and feels weird for the first few days, then it feels normal and much nicer not having your mouth feel all cramped at the back.

i didn't knew that all 4 can be taken on a same day. :uhoh:

i got one removed, i still have another two, reasons i didn't took them out:

- aren't that painful to have them

- i consider the dentists removing them is more painful. -ok they sedate you and all that but, erm 'chew' feels stange until it fixes.
