It needs to be repealed. Reading the personal stories of soldiers that have been discharged for it makes me very sad and disappointed. A soldier is a soldier no one is less or more important, they're equals.

This is the sort of discussion thread that should have been created in the first place, without any mention of Lady Gaga.;)

Clearly something needs to be done about this rule, which is ludicrous in this day and age.

Not yet. A filibuster is going to happen in the senate to stop it.

Also: It is going to be voted on this Tuesday

This.

American laws are stupid.

You had plenty of opportunity to discuss it but you decided not to.

And it isn't a surprise your first post mentions the one thing this isn't about.

Punt.

You had plenty of opportunity to discuss it but you decided not to.

The discussion went in the direction it did because Lady Gargoyle was brought into it, when there was no need to.;)

Constantly talking about it will only leave you on ignore and unable to post in this thread.

Move on.

Well I've said something needs to be done about it. What more is there to add?

Clearly you have nothing more to add so leave the thread.

I have never heard of this law, but it's making me sad  I hope they take it away, it's incredibly stupid.

Oh no wait, of course it makes sense that you can only be in the army if you are heterosexual.

lolwut

LOLWUTTHEFUK

the human race makes me cry.

THE THREAD WAS ABOUT LADY GAGA FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, JUST DROP IT JESUS.

Okay, so call me ignorant, but I never completely understood "don't ask, don't tell". I'm assuming that means if you're in the military and in some way/shape/form indicate that you're gay, you'll get kicked out. But in regard to the first part, "don't ask"; does that mean you'll get kicked out if you ask someone if they're gay?

Now, let us assume it gets repealed. I don't see what the big deal is, why would people freak out about it getting repealed? I seriously doubt that everyone in the military who is gay is going to go shout it from the rooftops and be completely in everyone's face about it.

Other than what I've stated above, is there something else I am not understanding about the current "rule", and the implications of it getting repealed?

Repeal it. People can't be people, they can't make friends, they can't show their true identity. They're in misery trying to serve for our country. Please repeal it.

The way I see it (which may not be the correct way) is that the American army understands that a lot of their soldiers and indeed a lot of their country are prejudiced and so you are allowed to be gay in the army as long as nobody knows, in order to protect yourself from those who discriminate and also keep the issue out of sight.

I am of the opinion that there should not be laws restricting homosexuals therefore acknowledging that the prejudiced people have won, but they should deal with the problem that is the prejudiced people and have laws against them.

I never understood it either.

Oh I see.

I agree, nobody should be forced to tell whether they're homosexual or not, but they should be allowed to tell someone if they feel comfortable with it.

I also agree with the last thing you said; the DADT law isn't dealing with the problem at all.

Well I guess tomorrow is when the whole thing goes down.

I hope it gets repealed.

Like, I really do. It's not fair that these men and women are putting their life on the line fighting for their country, being honorable citizens and they are getting discriminated for their sexual orientation.

Yeah, I know.

:disappointed:

Shit laws all made cos there is no real separation of church and state.
