how does learning a language change you as a person/student?

itt help Sara BS her Japanese essay. All I can think of is it taught me diligence and that not everyone thinks like Westerners which is lame.

It makes me misspell English words that are similar to German words. :|

It makes me realize how odd the American society is compared to European culture.

It makes me realize that most public schools start too late on learning foreign languages. I took three years of French in 8th, 9th, and 10th grade and barely remember anything. I wish schools started teaching it in 4th or 5th grade.

when you watch 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon' you don't need to rely on subtitles

sorry, that probably doesn't help much

^^I started learning Spanish in kindergarten, and it was mandatory 1-8th grade. When I got to 9th grade, I switched to German.

Wow, you're lucky. Do you go to public school?

I wish I took German sometimes, but not enough kids ever signed up for it to have a class.

How old are you in 8th grade?

I went to school in Switzerland and we didn't start learning English until we were 14 because they thought French was more important as it's spoken in the country.

Dawg, that's Chinese.

It makes me less of an American because everyone should learn American than me learning their shitty language.

Yeah, public school. Small elementary school, with about 450 students in 1-8th grade. So we didn't have a choice with which language to take. But my high school is regional, so we have the option of taking Spanish, German, French, and Chinese. :awesome:

that sucks. :\

In 8th grade you are 13/14

If I ever get in a relationship with a Japanese person I will know what their family and friends are saying about me?.

I think it makes me more open minded to the world and it makes me cross some borders

Woops. That's my epic fail for the day.

Okay, so how about you won't need to look at the subtitles in 'Kill Bill'. There.

Haha!

You can read the menus at Japanese restaurants when they don't translate them. :awesome:

I came up with one. IB is an international curriculum so studying a foreign language is good cuz it exposes you more viscerally to other cultures.

f my life, I'm so full of crap in school writing assignments these days -__-

I know, I mean you can't avoid BSing to a certain extent, but before I had all this fucking work I had like, creativity, instead of just being completely dead like this, all I can do these days is make shit up. Before at least some of it actually came from me... D:
