I am supprised at how highly ranked The Suburbs is being ranked. Its not that I don't think its a good album, I quite like it, I just didn't think it critics would think it was that good compared to other releases this year.

I think it was fairly obvious that some of the major magazines/websites/whatever would rank The Suburbs highly.

I think a lot of the major album lists have a quite a bit of favouritism in them. I can't really understand why they'd do it to Arcade Fire though? I'm confused. haha.

A little disappointed that Joanna Newsom only made 13 on MOJO's list since they gave her album a 5/5 for the first time since Fleet Foxes :(

 

And Broken Bells are barely anywhere.

I am a little surprised the Suburbs is finishing so high, but not totally surprised.

 

I've found it has been one of those albums I can keep going back to, it hasn't grown old for me yet. Maybe a lot of writers and editors feel the same.

This year’s chart was compiled by looking at scrobbles for albums released between 1st October 2009 and 31st October 2010. We left out live albums, greatest hits collections, EP’s and singles and pulled them together into the lovely list you see here now.

 

For every album in the list we looked up the most scrobbled tracks and the month-by-month plays, as well as checking with our playlinks partners to find places you can listen to the albums in full.

nice. LastFM's list is different & perhaps more interesting for me from the rest since it uses data mining to compile its Top 40 list & is limited to its sphere of users. there's some interesting patterns from the data they have in that it covers a wide range of music & genres compared to media/staff compiled lists.

 

& i like that i can see my own listening patterns for a specific artist/band on their list too...if they exist in my music library.

i always like looking at those last.fm charts but at the end of the day it is pretty a popularity contest, an objective measure giving it a different sort of significance to critic lists.

 

but i look forward to the top 10 and comparing it to the critic lists.
