Chris & religion

Featured Replies

So much to discuss about God in the Lounge, threads I thought discuss Chris and religion.

In a 2005 Rolling Stone magazine interview, Martin said of his religious views: "I definitely believe in God. How can you look at anything and not be overwhelmed by the miraculousness of it?" In the same interview he spoke of going through a period of spiritual confusion, stating "I went through a weird patch, starting when I was about sixteen to twenty-two, of getting God, religion, superstition, judgement all confused" However, in a 2008 interview he stated

"I'm always trying to work out what 'He' or 'She' is. I don't know if it's Allah or Jesus or Mohammed or Zeus. But I'd go for Zeus" source wikipedia

so what you think all?

its good that Chris is religious

hes actually singing about issues not some crap that some new artist sing about

:) he writes fantastic lyrics and they truely come from the heart

when you listen to them they feel special

Hm, I don't think that being religious would necessarily prevent anyone from singing crap or that not-religious people cannot sing about issues that are not crap.

Yet, I think that being religious or not can have its influence on the music that people make. I think it is indeed in some of Coldplay's lyrics as well.

you made me think about this song, is universal but is unknown

i would say that chris is spiritual, he has beliefs but not for a particular doctrine, or religion imo.

although i agree with him, i'd believe more in Zeus than the standard monoteism.

it doesn't ^ as long as he writes fantastic songs I don't really care.

and Love = God

no relase of work :dozey:

so I just keep Jay-Z For Friend

@Lory: i think you better read some thread that some guy opened between the VLV release and the Satriani sueing, i remember someone analysed that matter.

I believe Chris believed in God (i.e. "A Message", "Fix You"), but doesn't, erm, portray it in the best way. His lyrics are too close to a love song about God to make me believe so.

my words :)

Erm... Can someone explain me what A Message has to do with God?

I love Chris and Coldplay, but "I definitely believe in God. How can you look at anything and not be overwhelmed by the miraculousness of it?" is a pretty stupid statement.

But hey, as long as the man keeps writing amazing music, I guess it's okay:P

Also, don't forget about the "Cemeteries of London" lyrics:

God is in the houses

God is in my head

And all the cemeteries of London

I see God come in my garden

But I don't know what he said

For my heart it wasn't open.

I'm not religious at all, but I like those lines -- they can be interpreted in different ways. Either way, I think, they talk about not having 'God' in your life, but it's kind of ambigious whether he (Chris) thinks that is good or bad.

In the VIVA-era Rolling Stone interview, Chris also talks about [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5owXCZ0CDg]this scene from Woody Allen's Manhattan[/ame]. I'd like to think Chris believes in Woody Allen.:)
