the_gloaming09
I find over the years there have been many phases for bands that i've really liked. So I'm curious to see of all of the bands that you have listened to which have had the longest longevity or you have been a solid fan for? For me the longest would be The Beatles. I've listened to them my whole life but my dad first made me cassette tapes (back when I had a walkman), back when I was in like 1st grade... so that's like 17 years or so (around '95). After that I'd say comes Pink Floyd who I've been a fan of for like 8 years or so (around '03) Then I'd say Radiohead comes after that, which I've been a fan for, for like 4.5 years (late '06) So what about you guys? Violet
Interesting thread topic, Mike. My first big thing as far as actual bands go would have to be Mannheim Steamroller. They're this new-age band from the '70s. I don't listen to them as much as I used to, but I still give them a listen sometimes, particularly during Christmas. Mannheim Steamroller is really well-known for their arrangements of Christmas music. It's quite good. Anyway, I've been listening to them ever since my dad introduced me to them Christmas 2000, so that's almost half my life. This is going to sound stupid, but Maroon 5 was also a biggie. I got into them hardcore in my freshman year of high school, and I still love them. They were the first modern band that I really got into; "Songs About Jane" was the first album I ever bought myself. For that reason, they hold a special place in my heart. Then, of course, there's Muse. Yeah. On this past birthday of mine, I celebrated my 4 year Muser anniversary, so that's how long I've been a fan. I'm sure if you asked me this question again 10 years later, I'd have so many more bands that I could add, like all these artists that I've discovered through the forum. This is why I love the WoM.

Violet
OK, just wondering. I think the three bands I posted is enough of an answer. Anything more would sound a bit pretentious.

Anything more would sound a bit pretentious. nah I don't think so. I'm just curious to see what bands have lasted the longest for people. But I guess I'm also going for bands that have a lasting power. Like for example I used to be a big fan of Led Zeppelin, especially around 2002-2006, but now I don't really listen to their music much, so I wouldn't consider I've been a Led Zeppelin fan all of that time. I guess it's more of being a consistent fan.

Well, what I meant was that given my previous responses, any more additions wouldn't have as much of an impact, and so I'd look like a fool putting artists in my list that I haven't been a fan of as long as Muse, you know? Anyway, I see what you mean by that. I remember when I listened to Yellowcard and thought they were cool. HAHAHAHA. :|

Cyan Kat
I've liked Fleetwood Mac since I was like 7 when my dad would play it in the car but I wouldn't of called myself a 'fan' exactly back then.
NumbersGirl
Well it is slightly dependent on how long the band/artist has been around so that gives certain bands/artists a bit of an edge. For me I'd say Eagles. They've been around longer than I have, I've listed to them since I was a kid and I'll never get tired of them. And yes technically it's just 'Eagles' and not 'The Eagles'. After that I'd have to say Coldplay, since 2000. Most people here know how big a fan I am of Parachutes. :freak: edit: Oh yeah, Michael Jackson also since I was a kid. I haven't listened to his stuff in awhile, but I'll always be a fan.
rudy_o
Coldplay. Though I'm now actually not really a big fan as I used to be back in 2008. Before Coldplay, I don't really listen to music D:

Prince Myshkin
Radiohead/Beck Both since the mid-90's, though I seriously got into them both at college. Always been in my top 20 though, since I was a kid, just now they are both top five after consistently delivering for a dozen albums between them and also growing on me even further when it came to the material I knew in my less mature years. Corkus
I find that the majority of artists I listened to a decade ago haven't had much lasting power, and as predictable as it may seem on this site, Coldplay really is the one that I can trace farthest back that I actually still have respect for and will willingly still listen to. Their accessibility is obviously what sold me back when I was still listening to Linkin Park and 3 Doors Down (:laugh3:), and while I don't even listen to Coldplay as much as I did a year ago, their quality has remained mature enough that I'm not ashamed to still listen to them, unlike those other bands from early high school (when I started listening to music beyond just the radio). Then obviously there's timeless bands like The Beatles who have remained pretty consistent, but I have never been a hardcore fan of them to the extent that I am with other bands nowadays. U2 comes probably the closest for me, and I've been listening to them possibly longer than I've been listening to Coldplay (though those were mainly songs on the radio, as I didn't start to really delve into all their material until later). So U2 gets the award for "longest", but I'm going with Coldplay for "longest consistently"
Prince Myshkin
It's hard though because I was brought up on Massive Attack, Portishead, Happy Mondays and Mozart and I still think they are all amazing too. And a few other bands/artists my parents like.
ainsley
Coldplay. Though I'm now actually not really a big fan as I used to be back in 2008. Before Coldplay, I don't really listen to music D: THIS. Coldplay pretty much introduced me to good music in 2008. MUSIC n00b :disappointed: I didn't listen to anything at all before them. Guest howyousawtheworld
The Beatles since I was a small kid. Probably 14 years. As a small kid though I was usually more familiar to hearing Celtic folk (like below) and classical music which my dad listened to.

Karencorpse
When I was very young I listened to Muddy Waters, Elmore James, and BB King, and I still like them and listen to them. I also liked Baroque music and still listen to it. Viva La Vida sounds like it was influenced by Talaman.
