This was hardly a debate or discussion it was just arguing, a skilled communicator does not resort to using foul language so I don't think this is the best 'discussion' to judge me on, we didn't even really discuss anything of worth. It was an argument about a guy who came in here to start an argument over nothing and then turn around to point out that I start arguments our of nothing.

 

So yes, in this debate all I wanted to do was shut him up, that's how it comes across as me trying to 'win'. His only reason for posting was to to make fun of me, and then went on to say my opinion is of no value because I don't like Coldplay. My post had nothing to do with liking or not liking Coldplay, I said it was a very basic song (Mainly referring to the 2 chords repeated over and over on an organ) so somewhere in the world it's going to sound similar to something else, that's nothing against basic songs, "Imagine" is a basic song and therefore artists have been accused of ripping it off because eventually it's going to sound like something. Very simple, it's like the infamous Pachabel's Canon in D which has been used literally dozens of times in pop music, very simple chord structure which is very easy to accidentally replicate (I've actually found myself playing it and not realised).

 

Anyway, in a debate I'm happy to learn through discussion, that's the point, this wasn't about that, we were never going to achieve anything from the start. All I wanted to do was show this guy that you can't keep posting off-the-cuff snidey remarks to me and just expect me to let it slide like I have done in the past. And now he's shut up, job done.

I rarely bother to say why I don't like Coldplay, so unless you mean down through the years when I would often comment on them, lately I have barely said much at all about the band itself or their music. Though coincidentally tonights the first time in ages I have bothered to criticise them (Just my luck) in the Gaga thread, good luck finding something from before that.

 

I don't keep reminding you guys I'm not a fan, in fact I rarely do it at all anymore, I'd be surprised if I have more then 100 posts in this forum in the past few years, so I think it's unreasonable to say I'm harping on about it too much when you've got nothing really to go on. I didn't even intend to criticise them in this topic, and I'm certainly no longer going out of my way to do so.

And no MartinFan, I'm not bipolar, you'll notice that my 'mood' can change drastically depending on who I'm responding to, my mood isn't changing at all, for example I can appear to be a really angry in a post but behind the keyboard I'm not. For example I've just been giving one poster hell, but Pommeline I have no problem having a civil discussion with because they've made mainly reasonable points and have no reason to 'run away'. But the other person, patience went out the window a long time ago, no time for politeness there.
